I like the O’Meara move IF we don’t have to give much up. As has been said, we got bullied in the midfield a few times. Even though we all love our young mids in Brayshaw, Serong, Brodie etc. I have been worried about replacing Mundy’s big body and experience with a second year player (Johnson, Erasmus). JOM would be huge for us against teams with other big bodies mids. The likes of Carlton (Cripps), Melbourne (Petracca) etc. We can’t expect Erasmus to come in and compete with those type of players.
Can't we replace Mundy with a bigger body in Fyfe?

Suppose the question comes down to if he’d rather play in a contender before his career is up or play with his best mate

He’s only played what, one or two finals series? i’m leaning toward unlikely he comes but it’d be a tough decision for him

He's also from WA and I'm fairly sure his partner is from WA too

Bowes has not really shown that he is about to explode on the scene as a top player. What even is he? Not a inside mid? Not a winger? Is he a linking half back? Brodie at least you had him averaging 31 touches a game as an inside mid in the VFL to guide you as to at least he can win the ball. Bowes is miles off that.
At this point Geelong have swapped the cash for pick 7 and if Bowes turns out to be best 22 for them it's a bonus.
I see Bowes as a HBF/Wing, his 2021 (might have been 2020) was very good. Could you imagine our club being so inept that it has to attach early frp to get salary off the books?

I don't want O'Meara. If we're interested in him, then why didn't we keep Tucker and try to convince him that he had a place in our midfield? They're similar players.

We should now be giving game time to Raz and MJ.

O'Meara is significantly better than Tucker. Tucker is a very good WAFL player

I feel like some of you think you're getting early GC O'Meara. He's just not that player. He also rarely plays anywhere near the level that might affect the outcomes of games like the Pies ones. We don't start winning those because we played O'Meara in Mundy's place.

He doesn't definitely walk in at all. How many mids do we play? Fyfe barely got in the centre this year and only Mundy is out.

He's probably the 4th/5th best mid around Brodie's level and well and truly at his ceiling and can't play another position unlike Fyfe.

Is 2023 more important than 2024-2028? Playing him over Erasmus might feel good next year, but it won't help long term. We are not a team with a couple years left of challenging, we are one with up to a decade if we don't make ****y shortsighted decisions now.

We don't win a couple of extra finals or a flag because we played O'Meara over Erasmus. He's just nowhere near that good.

5 consecutive top 10 finishes in their B&F. 2 of those 3rd place. He's far from a spud. He 100% walks into our best 22. If nothing else he is a Mundy replacement.

He may not fit our age profile or direct needs, but he's best 22 without any questions.

Fyfe barely got in the middle because we was at best 60% of his usual fitness.

I'm by no means saying let's go hard at him, but he'll be welcomed, he will improve us, so why not?

First, Hawks are **** and have been for most if not all of those B&F finishes.

He's borderline B22 because you only play ~6 mids and at least 3 are better than him. If you're not part of the starting mids you usually need to be able to play somewhere else which he cant.

Exactly, so next year he will (hopefully) be fitter and spend more time.

All that aside, mostly because making us slightly better is not worth the cost in either salary, draft or development time for another player. If he was an equivalent quality forward, then it makes my hair stand up. But he is a vanilla mid. A decent one no doubt, but nothing you'd bother with given the relative trajectories of our team and his career.

I don't understand why gws would hand over a top twenty pick for JOM, they are rebuilding yeah?

Let Hawks finish paying out his contract I say.

Im ok with the Omeara trade if it is for a real late pick. Any chance this could be like a Sam Mitchell trade where they just want him off the books and will go cheap as?

Maybe we are showing interest in O'Meara as a favour to the Hawks to help drive up his price? What the hawks get from GWS will help with Meek.
