We are trying to contend. I'm sure he's not the main focus, but we need quality depth, and he's available. Our Peel depth was average this year and will be worse next season. We are a few injuries away from falling away from the pack imo.

He's not the answer, but if he comes cheap, why not.
Exactly. Compare JOM with Crowden, for example. Who is our only midfield depth now that Mundy and Tucker have both left.

The last thing we need to be doing is signing up a midfielder on multiple year deals when there is no guarantee that they will be best 22 from 2024 onwards. That will just be another Blakley like mistake.

Doesnt matter if Hawks pay for JOM’s 2023 salary. It’s the 2024-2026 that will hurt us. He won’t want to be playing on $300k a year.

We already have young midfielders who we need to get games into, a unicorn that will be farting rainbows out of the guts, plus the best midfielder of the last 20 years wasting away in the forward line.

JOM isn’t needed to make us a better team, in 2023 or after. In fact he could make us worse.

Off the wall question but do you know the guy in your avatar? East Freo legend.

So out of curiosity, how many mids should a team have rotating through the midfield?

At the moment we have Brayshaw, Serong, Brodie, Fyfe (if fit) and Aish. Surely adding O'meara helps that!!! Erasmus and Johnson are very very young and should be given time!!

Adding O'meara, Jackson, Tippa, Corbett and Sharp would be a ridiculous offseason and would have us definetly competing for the premier next year in my opinion regardless of losing Acres, Lobb, Meek and Logue

I don't mind JOM. He's no star like he once looked but still a good all round mid.

The thing is really just price though isn't it.

Straight swap for Meek or broad equivalent then yeah sure.

Any significant cost then no I think it's probably not worth it.

You hope it's a salary dump kind of thing. I mean reports of GWS offering 19 are worrying but I would say he has to want to go there, and they look a way off at the moment.

Brayshaw isn't our best runner. Not by a mile. Noddy, Serong,

Brayshaw is elite contested inside football and elite endurance, but he is slow /medium speed. Wings need elite speed and really high speed burst running, and can get away with not being hugely contested footballers. Andy needs to stay inside for the rest of his career IMHO.
I'm not advocating the change. Just thinking what options could evolve from having JOM in the team. I've never looked at Brayshaw's running stat's compared to others. I probably should. What I see on the field with him is elite running though. Henry needs to step up to the wing IMO.

Slow, one dimensional, doesn't tackle, doesn't play great tagging defense, doesn't block his man effectively (or his woman), doesn't goal assist, doesn't have great fourth quarter endurance, overpaid already under current contract and will want an extension, blocks a younger player from chances to play, costs us picks, costs us chance to draft the next Freddy, Switta or Meek, isn't a proven forward 50 marking target or goal kicker so doesn't fill a need (unlike Corbett, Jackson or Tippa) and most of all has a highly degenerative knee condition with multiple surgeries already. Would rather get either or both of Ballas or Dixon back in ahead of giving JOM a spot. And I'd say this even if he had been delisted and cost us no picks.

I get (and agree) that with Mundy retiring, Fyfe injury prone and Acres gone we could use a mature midfielder. But it has to be someone with endurance running, defensive mindset, elite kicking skills and no ego. Ergo not JoM.
Lead Hawthorn in tackles playing fat side and high half forward

The big bodied mid we have been after we just traded in.
I dont see a need for O'Meara and yes he will slow down the development of last years draft.
Its in Freos best interest to drive up O'mearas price by providing competition to GWS so Hawthorn get a better hand to then deal on to us for Meek.
I think everything will go as we all planned from the get go.
The Bulldogs pay up for Lob, Hawthorn pays up for Meek, we do some pick swaps and then get Sharp for a high 3rd round.
Every thing will go through late so the AFL and Young have a great story for this years doco.

But the again O'Meara if almost free why not!

Mundy retiring does make our midfield look very meat and potatoes. We need a couple more elite users in our midfield, I'm not sure if O'Meara is still that player, but if he is, he makes us better. That said, Collingwood midfielders made us look slow, so we don't need another one pace midfielder.

Meek for O'Meara or it's a pass for me.

Our midfield answer is Freddy btw.
He was never an elite user and he certainly isn't now.

JOM could have something to do with Fyfe. A lot of comments on here are about Fyfe getting back to his best & perhaps the club via the medicos know that just won’t happen, particularly in the middle.
It’s just pure romanticism to think he will be even half the player he used to be imo

The fact we somehow went from "I don't want the club to trade for JOM" to "The club is going to trade Serong for JOM" within the space of a couple of pages on the basis of no supporting evidence is a genuine testament to the collective insanity of many on here at this time of year.

A straight swap for Meek would be far from the worst outcome and gives us an experienced midfield hand in the absence of Acres and Mundy.

JOM in no way covers for the loss of Acres.
