I thought the bromance was with Ryan? Also, if Cox goes, why wouldn‘t SA be in the box seat?
Because his mates are living and playing in Victoria.

I sure as shit hopes he finds a local WA lass who he falls madly in love with who will never leave the state due to close ties to her family.

Seems to be the norm, but surely there were other clubs prepared to pay the same . Well maybe not I suppose.
Rest assured Colin would have got himself the best possible deal. 👍

As the dust settles I think we made ourselves stronger for next year and the years after that when it all washes out.

JOM could be surprisingly good for the next few years and you can see him fitting in perfectly with the rest of the squad.

Have two half decent picks in 30 and 44 as well as upgrading everything next year except our first is fine.

Most impressive move was not being stupid with Sharp IMO and paying something completely ridiculous which it sounds like GC wanted. He'll be basically free next year if he wants to join still

Five vacant spots on the Senior List and none on the Category A rookie list.

Will we upgrade more than one rookie?
Will we sign a DFA?

They’re the questions from here from a List Management perspective until the draft.

First player to welcome O'Meara on social media.... Caleb Serong. He is invested.

I seriously don’t mind the Lobb / Meek / JOM trade. Lobb was always going to get traded, pick 30 + F2 is around 15. Meek was never going to get us 24, or would ever be a straight swap for JOM - he’s a second ruck. All three players were still contracted so that throws everything out anyway. I think we did well with Lobb and Meek for JOM and 30.

We’ve kept North’s PP in Rds 2,3,4 + have an extra 3rd next year. That’s a bloody good hand given we brought in Jackson as well.
I seriously think we did ok.

Out: Lobb, Logue, Tucker, Meek, Acres, 13, F1, F2, F3, F4.

In: Jackson, O’Meara, Corbett, 30, 44, F2 (NM), F3 (NM), F3 (Carlton), F4 (NM) - that’s as good as a full hand of picks in each round.

Lobb -> Jackson (LJ far more talented than Lobb, and 8 years younger)
Logue -> Corbett (Corbett is a better forward)
Acres -> O’Meara (diff positions but JOM is a far superior player to Acres)

Meek, Tucker - WAFL players

13 gone.

2023
Rd 1 -> NMPP Rd 2 (slight downgrade)
Rd 2 -> NMPP Rd 3 (slight downgrade)
Rd 3 -> Carlton Rd 3 (same-ish)
Rd 4 -> NM Rd 4 (significant upgrade)

So two more talented players, and one who plays his position better. Let’s say that cost us pick 13 to achieve those improvements. Leaves Meek and Tucker for 30 and 44.

I’m bloody impressed!
Great post. Agreed.
Sorry, had. Busy day! Are we melting?
The usual pork chops are, but overall we are happy. 🙂👍

I can justify taking a chance with O'Meara since he offers midfield depth which was a painfully obvious deficiency at times towards the end of last season. Could turn out to be a really smart trade IMO.

It sucks losing Meek but we've barely played him despite great WAFL form and he deserves a shot elsewhere. It would have been a tough sales pitch to keep him having just bought in Jackson even it we see him splitting his time across other areas of the ground.

The most immediate concern is Lobb. I don't really care about the change in the club's messaging, it's a bit daft to take anything a football club says to heart during the trade period. Hate him or hate him though, he was our most dangerous tall this season. We now need to find ~35 goals from Treacy, Amiss, Corbett and Jackson just to break even in what was an already average scoring side. Big pre-season coming up for Longmuir and the coaches to make it work.

The melting over draft picks never really makes much sense to me either given you can't really judge a trade winner 5 minutes after it's filed.

But this is the thing, with Lobb there, how do we play Tracey and Amiss. They are both going to be stars, but we need to play them. Lobb is so hot and cold it’s not funny. And doesn’t even want to be there.

Amiss stood up in 2 finals !! Imagine with another pre-season into him. Amiss, tabs, Corbett, Omera dropping forward, Fyfe, Tracey, fredericks, walters, Switta, Shultz. Pheweew there is some goals there

Oh… and Jackson and Darcy kick them too

Five primary spots, only two decent picks. We should upgrade and extend Treacy, Schultz and Banfield.

Then we can take two national draft picks, any cat-B NGA players we like, and have a dip in the rookie draft.

Does anyone know why Lobb specifically chose The Dogs ? I'm trying to work out why another Vic club couldnt be involved ?

Huge money, a vague responsibility-free ruck/forward role and the ability to blame anything that goes wrong on Naughton and Marra?

Sounds like Rory to a tee.

I would upgrade Treacy and Schultz to the main list.

Use picks 30,44 for some high risk high reward forwards and select academy player.

Take one player in the rookie draft.

Invite a group of players to fight for one spot in preseason ie Tippa, two rucks, 2 forwards

The worst outcome of our trade week is that we made some of our competitors stronger.

Bulldogs get Lobb, allows them great flexibility with Darcy/Naughton.

Dees lose Jackson but get a better player (now) in Grundy for effectively the R2 we sent their way plus they have the other 2 first rounders we gave them.

Carlton get Acres (top 5 in our BnF) for a packet of chips.

North not a competitor yet but Logue could come me back to haunt us. He has potential to go AA in the right situation/role.

Can’t we have a rule that we don’t trade talent to a club that is competing for a flag in our window unless it clearly makes them weaker?!

Blake Acres > F3 (Carlton); D grade rating
I feel he should be rated around late 2nd/early 3rd (an upgrade of our pick 76 would have got the pass mark)

Corbett > F4 (Freo); B+ grade rating
Low risk and low cost. I like Corbett having seen his work in VFL. Mobile forward with good fitness and takes a decent mark. Replaces Logue’s forward work from 2022. Essentially a free hit for a draft pick we may not have used.

Logue > F2 (North); C+ grade rating
I feel he should be rated around 15-19. The future pick will likely be around 20-24. With Logue OOC and North having PSD gets a pass.

Tucker, F3 (Freo) > F3 (North), F4 (North); C grade rating
Rated Tucker around 45-50 range. Felt the F3 swap was unnecessary but in reality the F3 (Freo) and F4 (North) won’t be a huge difference. Also F3 (North alone a bit high).

13 (14 after bid), F1, F2 > Jackson, 44 (will go lower) and 67 (will go lower); C grade rating
Rating for Jackson was always around Pick 3-4. The trade based on where the picks will likely end up is around pick 3. I felt we could have strung this out and moved on just 13 (14) and F1 or at the worst swapped F3 (from us) with 67. The picks 44 (drop to 40/41) and 67 (drop to ~58-60) is a value of around 33 and F2 prob 29-33 range.

Lobb > 30 & F2 (Bulldogs); B grade rating
He was never staying. I liked that we held firm to the last hour. The pick value of two 2nd round picks is around value of pick 13. Decent outcome. It meant we could trade for either JOM or Sharp.

JOM, F4 (Hawks) > Meek, F2 (Bulldogs); C + grade rating
Felt we needed to stick to our demands of F2 for Meek. If we traded F3 (Carlton) we would have got Sharp by using the F2 (Bulldogs). I don’t mind the JOM addition and Hawks are paying a portion of his large first year salary.

Sharp - no deal. C+ Grade rating. I like that we held firm on F3 as our best offer. If either of the F2’s involved in the Jackson and JOM trades we could have got Sharp. He will be out of contract next year.

Overall rating for mine C+ Grade. Would have been B Grade if we could have held an extra F2. I feel the loss of our F2 > 44, 67 is a loss and also the Blake Acres trade we needed to get a little more. From the outside we wanted him gone. Logue not re-signing is a loss as well.

I'd like to extend Treacy's contract as soon as he gets back from the off season as long as he is in professional shape. He could cost a fortune more to wait nine months until the end of the season and he has only had two years on a list which isn't a lot for a key forward.
