In any case, we looked far more dangerous with Doc and Setters in the middle than at any other time in the second half of the season, and arguably for the entire season.

Herald Sun reporting today that Dow is increasingly likely to stay. Richmond and Geelong have shown mild interest in him.
That would be funny.
Everybody's made their mind up to keep Setters and give Dow the arse, and the club does the complete opposite.

Setterfield is wanted.

Dow is "eh, we'll take him but we're not giving you anything for him."

We'll never know the truth to that, unless both are traded in the same off season.
Lets just see what highly valuable pick Dodo offers us.
Some esteemed poster's suggested mid 30's a week ago...not sure what * have got, but I'm expecting pick 55+

Losing Setters is a bad outcome for us imo. Williams’ contract coming back to bite us in the arse. I don’t have as much faith in MK as others do and with Hewett’s injuries, we may quickly find ourselves short on inside mids.

In any case, we looked far more dangerous with Doc and Setters in the middle than at any other time in the second half of the season, and arguably for the entire season. Setters’ numbers were great in the two biggest games of the year and his first two in the middle, which imo makes it fair to judge what could come. Certainly no blame on his shoulders that we couldn’t get across the line.

Hope in Carroll, Philp, Kemp is just that atm. Carroll has some great traits, but he won’t last if his shank kicks maintain their current frequency. Kemp will find a role I think but more likely at either end of the ground and Philp seems more unlikely than likely at this stage.

Disappointed to see Setters leaving and seemed to fit in well but at least he gets to play for the team he grew up barracking for.
I agree. Love the doc and setters dynamic in the final 2 rounds. Would much prefer to keep

Setters will be cheaper for another team contract wise. Ess will be interested because other options fell through

Dow will have been a fall back option for Gee (Bowes) and Rich (Hopper).

I think Carlton's unwillingness to offer Setters a better contract, but claim he's required, seriously lowers his value.
And unless we trade them both this year, it's all just speculation.

Doesn't change my statement or my opinion

Dow can only play one role, inside mid.

Setters can play that role, as well as a runwith role. Has even done minor stints, although average output as a 7th defender or on a wing

And when we had 3 mids out late in the year, Setters got the call up

Yes, * might be targeting Setters based on being OOC, but that doesn't mean Dow is the better player

If I had a choice of retaining either, it would be Setters

Where they get drafted is different to longterm rankings

Knobel could be the best longterm ruck in this draft after Scully, so clubs should look to take him no later than early 3rd round

Lemmey is a 1st round talent, but he will slide due to other aspects, suspect only one of the SA clubs take him late
Arrow - a mate of mine mentioned Lemmey the other day. What’s the knock? Looks good. Touted as a potential top pick last year. But not much chatter now.

There’s only so much coin to go around, and looking at future list management, years to be offered.
Setters has been on good wicket without providing a return on the substantial outlay for the club.

Arrow, the conversation and questioning has always been about this years trade value, not personal opinion value.
If we get 35ish for Setters than you are correct. But if we get 55 or more for him, then it becomes very questionable.
Lets see if a deal is brokered this week.

I'd suggest that this is nearly entirely due to contract status.
Yes, that would be a major element.
We could trade contracted Dow or keep him (the clubs choice?) or we could trade un-contracted Setters for whatever we can get or lose him for nothing.
Or we still might trade them both.
If Dow remains, It could just as likely mean that we've decided to retain some kind of depth without offering Setters a mid-length contract on good money.

Is it just me or when we lose a player to * or filth, should we NOT wish them all the best? I hope that players like that have a shitty career with zero success, and it will be no different for Will. 😂

Eh, makes no difference to me. If Setterfield goes to *, I will have the same care factor about him as I do any other * player. None at all, he would be just another * player and I don’t mean that to be disrespectful towards him.

North has apparently looked at him as well. Personally, I think that we are better off retaining Dow and letting Setters go. Setters is another one pace inside mid... like the rest of our midfield. Dow has an explosive burst out of the middle which is something we need.

One difference is that LOB was competing with Newnes and Cottrell.

Dow is competing with Cripps, Hewett, Kennedy and Walsh.

One of these lists is not like the other...
Don't forget he's also fighting with Setters to be the depth midfielder.
