Absolutely it's about money.. it seems like the club has an offer of what they think he's worth, which seems less in $$ or contract length (or both) than what Essendon have offered and what Setters wants. Wouldn't blame him at all trying to maximise what potentially could be his last AFL contract.
But I don't believe the club has 'failed' him. Fringe players get cut/traded/low balled at every club, every year..

I would presume we offered a one year contract and low dollars and told him he is free to look elsewhere if he wanted. Free pass for Setters to look around and bombers come knocking with a 2 year deal, so of course he wants to go (and no skin off our nose really)

Thats how i see it.

Suns completely ruining whatever culture they had, article in Hun today about how Bowes feels.
His parents (who moved from Cairns to the Goldy to help Bowes settle) and grandma are big behind the scenes with draftees and young players.
Club asked him to help them out, he did and now is being pushed out.

Absolute flipping basketcase

Suns management and administration appears to be completely ****ed.

Year after year they get handouts and exceptions and they always **** it up and then blame the Gold Coast as being a hard market.

How about an overhaul of the top level for a change. They have wasted bucketloads of talent up there for years. A dead end for AFL careers

Gold coast suns are just a complete waste of time and money for the AFL.
Exactly, they could sell themselves as a Geelong or Sydney esque... surfing, swimming, fishing, anonymity, warmer conditions for aching joints. They have no brand, a coach that aint great in front of the camera and people in charge who are more about selling themselves or a garnering a paycheque (Blight, cough)

Luke Jackson is officially a Docker.

In my opinion is the biggest/best move and trade for any Finalist in this trade period (more than Taranto/Hopper/Dunkley etc)

Jeez Freo got absolutely reemed in that deal. 13+F1(likely 11-13 again)+F2. If they didn't have Sean Darcy I might understand but I'm still totally dumbfounded why you'd sell the farm with Sean Darcy sitting in the wings.

Dont think Freo got reemed to be honest. Fair price for a number three pick in the draft at 199cm who has shown a bit at only 21. If anything, reckon Freo have done well

I’m not disputing your analysis… but Freo keep on saying they’re going to play Jackson as a midfielder. In which case, Darcy doesn’t come into it. I can see why you are analysing them both as rucks though. In the end, Freo need to be right that he’s a tall midfielder (or maybe a key forward)

Because the whole trading / points system does my head in (ie I can’t understand it), how come Port can’t trade away their future first and second in the proposed mega deal, but Freo can do so to attain Jackson?

That is ridiculous from gold coast.

Not sure why you'd say that.

Pick 5 for a former Pick 3 small forward who has been flashy and a bit inconsistent, and GC have deferred a mid third rounder to next year (when they need points for academy bids) and swapped future fourths with the Crows (could genuinely be one pick after the other).

Big gamble, guess we'll see how it pays off

To trade your future first you must retain a 2nd, 3rd and 4th round pick (or better - ie. 2x 2nds and 4th would be fine).

In order to trade your future first AND your future second, you'd first need to have secured another future second rounder (or get one back in the same trade).

Freo got a future 2nd, 3rd and 4th round pick from NM in the Logue/Tucker trade, so they had the flexibility to trade their future 1st and 2nd rounders for Jackson.

fair point, but Adelaide "wins" this in one my view

Dunno, Freo also losing some players and if they lose Lobb it will be quite a blow.

Richmond getting both Taranto AND Hopper is pretty crazy.

Big bodied midfielders has been their weakness...it was Prestia or bust. Now they have 3.

Will allow Dusty and Bolton to play forward more.

Imagine collapsing in a 2km time trial. Talk about cooking your AFL prospects in one moment.

Won't do his chances any harm and whichever clubs are interested, won't change their ratings.

Has run solid 2 km time trials in the past and there is no questioning his football ability
