I really hope the Freo/North trade rumour doesn't have much legs, because that would be something worth enquiring about with respect to a Tarryn Thomas trade involving Dow.

Perfect chance to strengthen our 2023 draft hand.

Good result for Jones, but can't see us taking 49 to the draft. Think it will get packaged up

Surely we take 3 picks at the draft, that pick 49 and our two 4th round picks do actually have some points Brisbane might be keen on.

I still think we might get an upgrade with Dow or Setters. Even though we won’t be chasing players, I think there will be some wheeling and dealing going on with our picks.

Wonder if we might package 49, 66 and 68 to Brisbane for a future 2nd.

Would leave us with just 10 and 28, which is fine, as we only have 3 spots vacant, but depends on how whether we trade out or delist anyone.
Would be nice, but those three picks equate to around pick 41 on points… so they would need to be pretty desperate.
I believe there are quite a few clubs that will be looking to do similar deals with the lions. I don’t think we will have the ability.

They will be pretty desperate - need to find a way to get the Dunkley deal done, and still have points to match Ashcroft and Fletcher. But I think you're right, they'll prob get better offers. Perhaps we'd need to throw in our Future 4th to sweeten the deal, but still might not get it done.

Don’t think so.

Eagles want to turn pick 2 into multiple first round picks cause there are a few WA boys they want that would be a stretch at 2 but will go in the top 15 (bad for our chances at Hewett)

North want the world and some for JHF.
They will get it.

Port have rinsed Melbourne in their pick swap, doesn’t make much sense to me.

Melbourne pay 33, 43 and 53 and get 27, great business by Port.
Melbourne have said they weren't going to use 43 and 53. So they really upgraded 33 to 27. Win by both parties.

Forty3, would we get invovled and try to get 2???

Carlton give: 10 and next years first (arguably pick 12). Roughly worth 3000. (Pick 1 but downsized to 2 due to premiums paid for higher picks).

WC give pick 2. Get 8 and 10. Get their WA boys.

Port give 8, next years first. A second rounder too. Get JHF.

North give up JHF. Get Port next year first. Our next years first. A second rounder this year. Huge draft capital to go hunting next year. Gets back in second round this year. Keep Wardlaw.

I suppose North might say “no we will have pick 2 thanks”.

Trying to work out that trade - can’t work out how WC get 2 picks for giving up pick 2. Only GC will have it but they’re shopping 7 in the Bowes deal.

We need to use two first round picks over this year and next. Unless we can find another way to get back into the first round next year, I couldn't see us doing this. And in any case, I can't see a complicated trade like this getting done. Easier for the other clubs to do it without us.

Brisbane will be looking to upgrade for points this year. If we do lose Setters / Dow we might be able to trade 2 third rounders for a second rounder. As long as the points work out.

They are going to have an issue getting Dunkley in the door though with very little to work with for the Dogs B&F.

Even SOS would struggle to get all of that done. But with next year's draft supposedly a very good one you'd think there would be significant value available if you were prepared to trade next year's first rounder.

If I recall correctly the Weitering draft was supposed to be relatively weak after Weit and Shacke. Looking back now it's probably one of the best first rounds ever - all the way to Ben McKay at 21.

I feel sorry for Essendon who are losing Francis for nothing and passed up Harry and Charlie to take him.
(only joking - suck it bombres)

It does show though you can never be too sure of the quality of a draft - especially 12 months out. Could be worth a risk.

Easy with the Durdin and Carroll claims. Not as if they have blown or even semi blown the football world away. Yes I know it's early.
IMO neither are busts. May not be game changers, but they can both play. And neither were first rounders which Means they are in the crapshoot territory odds wise. Compared to our previous 3 list managers he is extracting good value out of ordinary picks.

I must be one of the very few that think a 3rd rounder is overs for Acres. Well, it seems some Fremantle supporters as well.
if he plays every game next year, he is worth it, which i expect him to do. Its sometimes smart to pay a full price to "get your man" . Its what hawthorn and geelong have done for a long time.
Acres is not a star, but could be a fantastic role player. Moneyball comes to mind

I wouldn't give up 2 1st rounders for pick 2 in this draft

JHF isn’t being called selfish, arrogant, self-entitled because he has asked to return to Adelaide to play his football (as is anyones right to want to go home), he is being called selfish, arrogant, self-entitled beeause he has acted selfish, arrogant, self-entitled from the moment he walked through the doors at Arden Street. Everyone and their Dog knew he was off the moment trade period started and that’s because he made that clear from as earlier as halfway through the year.
He might be all those things. Or Not. But one thing is for sure, if it aint working then for the sake of your mental health and the club , you should move on. IMO its the right thing to do all round. Family are important to most people and afl players are no exception. But for some they are indispensable. If they are indispensable for JH then what is the point trying to make things work in melbourne? It is what it is.
Strategically, its better if the player makes it known that he wants to get to another state, than if the club is seen to be willing to let him go.......The first situation means that the acquiring club has to "convince" the disposing club with picks to let him go. The second situation is a much weaker position for the disposing club. Any rhetoric from either the club or player could well be a deliberate strategy to enable both club and player to get what they want. So I dont automatically buy this narrative that he is selfish, arrogant etc. Only those on the inside really know.
