Martin used to send signals to Toby Mitchell and hang with Connors and King with Bike gang guys. The chopsticks was a sensationalist story but as far as off field stuff goes that was nothing. He used to hang out with Dayne Swan and Sam Fisher and I’m not sure he stopped being a bad boy so much as once he became a superstar his image changed and the media decided to hype him instead of destroy his reputation, it’s a cost benefit analysis. Is he worth more in advertising as a hero or a villain.
Couple this with the hero complex. Dusty was SO good and SUCH a good "redemption" story (came from a pretty busted home and some troubles in his younger days had the neck tatts etc etc). His redemption story is worth more than his playboy story.

DeGoey hasnt achieved what Dusty did, hes not beloved and thus his party boy feel bad stories are better for clicks.

There is a famous photo of Dusty the night after the 19 Granny with pupils like dishplates. Hes a brownlow and 2 norms in at that stage, no one wants to bust that bubble.

I would offer 750 x2, if he meets the triggers (Games played, performance based) we can increase it 850-900 for another 2 years.

He’s a risk worth identifying, I don’t know if we should take it. I think 750k is reasonable for him, we’ve blokes coming out of contract in a few years who’re on solid money, payrise is definitely there, it’s upto him if he wants it.

Just saying, we are also the same club that’s recruited Crouch, Carlisle who were involved in drug scandals. I would like to say they turned out pretty okay after we got them, we didn’t really deal with anything major with them. We also have Hanners, i think it’s pretty evident of the life he had in Sydney.

I’m not a fan of the stuff Jordans done, but for the right price, for the right deal and everything, I’m confident our club can be his turning point.

The way we’ve dealt with players in the last 2-4 years with well-being breaks, injuries, and being considerate of their mental health.

I think we can pull the trigger, if we didn’t think we could this, then Ratts won’t publicly be speaking about him.

So there's some conspiracy in the media to target certain players? I just can't buy that. Dusty may get up to as much or more than JDG but he's obviously smarter about it.

As an example there's been players that have been safe guarded from a third strike in the drugs policy and also outed as a drug user.

w***ers leaking videos and pictures to the media doesn't help, but the AFL and the industry as a whole do generally protect the great players

No i dont think thats what were saying.

Were saying that a heap of players act up and some make more sense to pursue than others.

Its not a conspiracy per se its about what makes the most sense from an interest and story point of view.

Dusty is a redemption tale. A kid from the rong side of the tracks made good and argurably the games biggest star (inargurably he was for a period of time) because of his success and his history.

DeGoey is the opposite. He sells clicks from scandal, he hasnt been as successful, hes isnt as redeemable there isnt as much feel good.

Their behaviour is very very similar (depending how much you believe Dustys has been much worse IMO) but the narrative for each is completely different because of what has come before.

dusty had his come to jesus moment with the club when his mate connors was there. he could have gone two ways... pulled his head in or continue down the same path.

dusty pulled his head in and worked extremely hard with some slip ups along the way.

DeGoey has had his come to jesus moment, multiple times, and it's been ineffective. he's yet to reach any of the heights of Martin. i don't see this one turning its self around.

i'm trying to think of a similar player...maybe Harley Bennell?

Dusty was a pariah but then took his game up a level and the flogs that wrote disparaging stuff sucked up to him. It’s commerce, his good image was worth more than his bad image. No conspiracy just business. I doubt Dusty changed anything.

Dusty’s behaviour hasn’t changed in the slightest I can assure you, there are videos of dusty post grand finals that make DeGoey look like a choirboy but the narrative of Dusty is different to the narrative of DeGoey.

Ultimately it’s about how good you are more than anything, Ablett Snr, Carey, Buddy, Cousins.

Dusty woukd need something monumental for that narrative to come through. DeGoey only needs a bit of mutual fondling in a bali nightclub (again, not a defence of DeGoey he has brought it on himself).

Video shows drunken heavily tattooed AFL star Dustin Martin 'threaten to stab a woman with a chopstick' in a trendy restaurant after a day at Stereosonic

  • Richmond Tigers Dustin Martin threatened to stab woman with chopsticks
  • Martin was dining at trendy Melbourne restaurant Mr Miyagi on Saturday
  • After he began 'acting offensively,' a woman asked him to settle down
  • Martin proceeded to swear and threatened to stab her in the face
  • After she said she would report him, Martin slammed his hand into the wall
  • The woman, a Channel 7 producer, has since reported him to Richmond FC
  • Martin admitted to being intoxicated and said he is 'deeply embarrassed'
If this had of been DeGoey he would hung and quartered.

In Bennell's case he never recovered from injury after he left the Suns , this was the demise of his career - Fremantle keep him for as long as they could but he could never get back on the park - kind of like Freeman.

No, more like Hannebery.
Freeman had injuries , but no "lifestyle issues" that were publicised.
Hannebery and Benell on the other hand....

Lol such a bizarre story looking back on it now. Campaigner must have been off his nut

There was nothing in it and even if there was he pulled his head in and didn't publicly screw up again.

Max King would have to be our best draft pick since Riewoldt , anytime you can pick up a key forward that you know will be a generational player you don't have to run around attempting to find one.
For instance the Bulldogs are stacked with midfielders who should be able to make any mediocre big forward look good but look at who they have brought into the team to find that missing piece of the puzzle.

1/ First round pick Hagen
2/ Bruce from Saints
3/ Schachie from Suns
4/ First round draft pick Darcy
5/ First round draft pick Naughton

They have basically used every trade period to find one - out of the 5 above only Naughton has come good so far.

One of the picks traded for Schache ended up being Noah Balta. Otherwise not much of note used with the picks traded for Schache or Bruce.
