Your negativity on this is starting to grate. Where's your alternative?
Didn't think I was being negative just because I don't think it's worth chasing a player?

I'm sure there are players out there you'd think aren't worth chasing yeah?

The alternative for me would be

1. Find a key defender that is proven quality and will walk straight into our 22

Or

2. Use an early draft pick on a key defender

As I said, I can't see Brisbane just handing over a contracted player cheaply and I also think we are past trying to bring depth players from other clubs

Joyce has proven he's capable as a back up in the meantime and Battle is proving to be a good move back there

If you were my family and i was De GOEY I'd certainly hate you.....the word recidivist is often used as an expression of law, a judicial expression, at its best maybe a psycho 'anal'ytic term which in my opinion is almost tantemount to saying a leopard never changes his spots....once a crim always a crim etc etc........

Unfortunately the intuitive side of me exclaims you are right! I hope someone loves him because he has the talent...but SAINTS ....we are not the club that needs that kind of tightrope right now or ever.......maybe after 3 cups...we could put our arms around the world...but De GOEY hmmmm its a big Nooooey from me!

Diehard Saint i get the impression you are right on the money! Believe me I hate being so judgemental.....it goes completely against the grain.........but instinct/intuition you just have to listen to it sometimes
De Goey - poor hygiene, another red flag - not that you need anymore, doesn't wash his hands after .....

Easy no to De Goey.

Being good at football doesn't make up for the shit person that he is. Don't want him anywhere near the club.

It's the Andrew Lovett trade that has me leaning towards the no way side. Collingwood has a lot more media clout to keep things under the public gaze. You know the drama that he had in NY would have seen us sack him on the spot because we have such a bad past with this stuff. Clubs like Collingwood and Richmond have a lot more ability to water media storms without cracking.

As far as a player goes he'd be very good but I can't see it happening. We delisted Matty Parker because he got a bit prima donna in he hub. Imagine what we'd have done if Jordy had gone full NYC in front of our bed-tucking choir-boy obsessives. Finnis would have had to run off to an ashram for 3 months to cleanse himself of the toxic masculinity exposure.

With respect:
Wilkie, NO!
Battle, NO!
Coffield, NO
Lienert, LOL
Highmore NO

Several posters have the idea that another KPD means we have to drop or lose a current player but l think that's just pigeon holing based on height alone.

Jimmy is at the back end of his career and injury prone.
Lienert is a depth 1 year rolling contract.
Highmore good but developing.
Leo still developing.
Joyce is not gonna be the man.

The rest you wouldn't even think about.

We have a very good group of defenders now and need only replace Gears with a big FB type and don't touch for a few years. Why weaken a strength?
It is true we have great depth for 3rd talls defenders. Next year you would hope Highmore is too good to be playing in the 2s - that could even be this season.

So while that is a strength we have a weakness in our kpd stocks and you need to give something to get - alternatively you could try and get a gun kpd with our 2nd rounder and as you said they would replace Gearys spot on the list.

Our defence does well and guys like Wilkie fight above their weight, but I think having 2 genuine kpd's reduces the amount of team defence you need to do and frees up ur interceptors making us a better team😃

I wouldn't be paying any more than what we are paying Steele and in that case he will not be coming to us if its for money.

You always pay extra to make a player move compared to making a player stay.

(Unless its a special case like dangerfield moving to the cats on a paycut to move back home etc).

Saying you would pay degoey steele's level of money to move to us is no different to saying you don't want him.

I think most seem to agree on another KPD being a good thing. The disagreement seems to be that we should drop one of the mid sized guys to accommodate, which personally l just fail to see any sense in.
The thought of having Battle and/or Highmore as free roaming interceptors to me is tantalizing. That's far more effective overall than having running HB's.

With Marshall ,Higgins , Battle , Paton , Jones all needing new contracts this year I wouldn't be paying DeGoey stupid money.

I wouldn’t be paying anyone stupid money. it wasn't long ago we offered Shiel a fortune. Would anyone be happy if we were paying him over $1 mill a year at the moment. Or Fyfe $1.5 mill?

Also again while West Coast are shit is there anyone we want to take? As a team on the up we’d be more attractive than staying at a team on a downwards trend who just got smashed by 100. 3rd round for Nic Nat to play the Paddy Ryder role for 2 years. He’s 32 now not in as good Nick as Ryder so I’d only give him 2 years instead of say 4. But rivals paddy for tap work and clearance work.

West coast if they are truly committing to going down the shitter wouldn’t want to keep him in his last few years of his career to watch a rebuild from the bench while they play the kids.

Nic Nat is just about out of juice and plus he weighs a ton. He will be a one team player.
Ryder is currently in much better shape physically. Don't forget he had a year off. He's still cherry ripe.

even if he goes from first picked if fit to a secret weapon type player. Bring him out for key matchups and finals. let him extend his lifespan and keep him around Heath/Ro and training
It would be nice to see Paddy get to 300. He deserves it. If not for Stephen Dank & Co. he'd already be there.

Andrew McGrath has put off contract talks. Personally I think there's a bit of value in some of Essendon's players. Only issue is having to deal with Dodoro.
