But stavro ha said bugger all.
All that has been said is that Clark may be up for trade if the right price is offered...that would be a top pick and only a deal that would favor the saints...

That's not saying anything about being in a rebuild.

It's basically saying if we can get a top 10 pick for him, then maybe it will be considered....

This is what I'm talking about throwing the toys out of the cot...my 3 year olds tantrums don't hold a candle to the ones thrown around here by experienced people who should actually know better...

There’s more to it than that as I’m sure you know but we’ll see how it plays out.

Probably a 3rd rounder - GC currently have pick 43 and 51 with 4 picks before them as it stands (will get more with the Ranking trade) so better than pick 55 which is the best North currently have.
I’d be pushing for 25 from GC threatening them that we would be happy to lose him for nothing to north.

You can call it a rebuild if you like but the majority of their team is made up of premiership players.

Okay, we'll see how many players drafted they bring through in the next few years compared to ours and who's done more of a rebuild in the last few years. They have kept drafting in their replacements and playing them. Happy to revisit it in a few years when we get left behind again and everyone blames the system.

The only tantrums I can see are yours Gub, you’re in danger of blowing a pooper valve old son

I mean his achillies, definetly had a part to play, but lets not let that get in the way.

He just wasn't very good before that. I wanted him to do well, I used to see him around and watched him at Sandy. He was too slow and lumbering for a back line spot. They probably needed to train him as a forward but the club was not great at development at that stage. He turned like a bus and had no agility. He would have been okay running in straight lines where some momentum got him going at pace. His best run of footy was just before we delisted him, he was really trying his arse off at Sandy. We should have swapped him and Paddy to opposite ends in hindsight.

What I meant is that we are coming into a new age of player movement where opportunity and cash are really the only things our club can offer.

Taranto and Hopper coming back to Vic would look at the 10 clubs and rank them.

We don't have an intangible that puts us at the top of any serious variables. We are in a group with North & the Dogs where good players will only come to us if we are already good.

Otherwise we are offering opportunity to players looking for game time (Higgins, Steele) their preferred position (Howard, Jones) or money (Hill, Ryder, Butler, Crouch)

We aren't going to be able to convince a Taranto/Hopper type to play for us for 700k a year. We have to overpay and throw up 900k+ just to get in the conversation.

Teams like Carlton, Richmond, Collingwood & Essendon can have you playing in blockbusters with the biggest crowds, regardless of ladder position.

Hawthorn & Melbourne can do the same when they are up and about.

Geelong have the lure of being a Vic club but with a country lifestyle.

That leaves us, North and the Dogs.

The Dogs salary cap is maxed out and they've not finished top 4 under Bevo. They had a miracle run in 2016 (on the back of a kid they had to pay $1million a year to lure in) and found a way to get there last year on the back of a midfield that technically had them over the salary cap.

If the Pies weren't paying for Trealor they'd be in am even worse position!

Then there's North. Not a destination club at all. They aren't getting any guns for fair market value. Maybe in a couple of years' time, if they are pushing up the ladder on the back of their multiple spoons, they might bring people in to "play for Clarko" but that's the lure of arguably the GOAT coach, rather than the club itself.

When it comes to the VIC teams - We are small market. Right now we would be 8th-10th in terms of destination for these gun players.

If Essendon get their s**t sorted off field then it's between us and North and we offer zero point of difference to them, while they have Clarko.

The AFL is always going to prop us up. That's just the reality of getting 4.5 billion for 9 games a week, but we seem destined to always have smaller crowds, smaller contribution and a smaller appeal to out of contract players.

We will never be the Lakers.

We MIGHT get to be the Clippers sometimes.

We could pray for a drafting miracle to turn us into the Warriors.

But the reality is we are the Sacramento Kings.

It's s**t, but it's true.
I think some teams will always have a slight advantage but I think you’ve overstated how large it is. The cap limits clubs, we only play at two grounds, we have a good home base in football country amongst a lot of our supporters. I’d say we have little hope of being more attractive at the same $ as richmond in this cycle. If we build a team via the draft that can compete then we’re as attractive as anyone. That’s not the mlb etc experience where big market teams pay 4 times plus what smaller teams do and play to packed houses versus crickets in poor stadiums. I say there’s not a club in the afl that given success can’t have there moment in the sun recruiting established talent. If I ever thought we were becoming like mlb for example that would be it for me, too old to jump on another club and not a chance I’m watching the Washington generals.

You are getting way to worked up.

It’s as simple as Cal Twomey said today on SEN.

“It’s one to watch”

Don’t lose any sleep over it. A club would need to meet our price.

He was lumbering before that injury, I always though he should have been tried at full forward or as a ruck forward. He was a big guy, I think he had a Chris Hemley story grew quite a bit late and lost some agility with it.

Love the optimistic outlook man. Nailing draft and development is the only thing we can control as a club.

The $$ side of it is actually the inverse to MLB though.

Good players are taking unders to play for big clubs in front of big crowds.

There's a "Blockbuster Discount" that gets applied, which allows these clubs to recruit players for less than what we need to pay.

Maybe I'm just taking the worst approach but the idea that Richmond can grab both of these guys, right after they've won 3 flags, just breaks me.

Gringo hates GOPs.....yet wants Matheson

He'd be better than most of our fringe players and come cheap. I reckon he's a bit of a Mitch Robinson, he's a team lifter. He's a GOP like DMac is.

The bloke we drafted with that pick suffered a debilitating injury that he never fully recovered from....

That's the same with mccartin and his concussions.....

Just pure bad luck....

I swear there are actually people in here that really want the club to fold or move just so they can say "fukn told you so, I could've done better"

******* pathetic.....

I am beginning to think it might help my mental health.

He can cheat all he likes if that's what some w***ers want to call it , other small forwards don't cheat LOL
If cheating gets you bags of 4 and 5 , cheat your heart out jack
“Cheating” - I call BS, just like I did when he was called selfish. 🙄

If the game plan allows it by pushing everyone up to allow space for a kick over the top, well more fool the other team for letting us get away with it. Butler got plenty goals over the top in 2020.

Personally, I’d say “cheating” is Hawkins clearly shoving the defender two hands in the back and getting many frees for doing it.

Higgins is a clever little player and 2 concussions, plus covid would have affected his season for sure.

Hopefully both he and Hunter have an injury-free season to show us what they can really do.

He's got a way with words, some say he's like a lyrical shovel.

Can ya dig it?

History says it was squandered.
Hindsight is a perfect science.
Everyone was very happy that with him and Paddy we had our two bookends for the next decade.
Then both had cr*py injury luck.

Do not want.

Sydney No.39 absolute gun proves they are great at drafting.
Our No.39, Battle
DFL- Membry
No.24 - Steele
Rookie - Wilkie
Rookie - Sinclair
DFL - Wood
MSD - Sharman

Saints recruiters always * up

They'll win a flag and you'll say it was all luck and their academy kids blah blah. They are the Melbourne Storm of the AFL, they get most shit right. It's like comparing BHP Billiton to a guy who concretes backyards. You can show a few we got that look alright but they have missed finals couple of times in 20 years. We wobbled into one finals series in the last 10 years when everyone else was asleep. It's actually comical that you want to compare our "success" to theirs.

Chad Warner is 21 and looks a future superstar player. We got King in that range of young star class but we didn't get him with pick 39. King's about the only one in a long time too.
