Supporters are seeing the pick 7 and none of the other major issues with the Bowes trade.
Bowes is owed $850,000 x 2. Extraordinary money for what is essentially a poor man’s Dunstan.
Now, Bowes management had told prospective clubs that he’s happy to smooth out that money over a 4 year contract. So while the next two years may drop down to $700,000 odd you’re still committing extra salary cap to a VFL player in 2025/26.
Once we did the maths we just didn’t think it was worth the TPP hit to take on pick 7 in what is a very even draft between 5-20.
Irresponsible for not bringing in pick 7? Or responsible TPP management?
Well done Saints.
Must be saving all that cap room for a gun free agent that will never pick us.

The both were on the Roos radar and both at one stage entertained going there. Getting Pick 1 gives us great scope to hit the draft

According to whispers. Gallagher has said have heard nothing from Hill or his manager for a trade and he wants Clark at the Saints for a very long time.

Only a top 10 pick would suffice for Clark and he aint getting that so he stays as well.

Why would you come to saints when the club thats missed finals once in a decade and just won a flag has the same level offers on table?

The AFLs equalisation measures are failing dramatically and the small struggling clubs are getting crushed by it

You do understand what equal means right? If so, you contradicted yourself in your very next sentence. Or by equal are you suggesting Geelong are treated in an unequal fashion to bring them down to the saints level so the latter can compete? If so, refer to question one.

Being a club that gets the best out of its players is great for the cap. Blokes play there for half of what they could get on open market

Apart from Danger, Selwood, Hawkins and Cameron, they don't have many real big value stars. Guthrie and Duncan are good players but they are hardly elite trade targets. They have a few kids who will get pay rises and guys like Stewart and Blicavs who are really high achievers but they aren't going to be guys who teams throw the kitchen sink at.

Part of the thing that made Richmond and them so good is that they don't have piles of superstars but have ate game that is better than everyone else. Most of the individual pieces aren't that exciting on their own. Melbourne ha a lot of cap tied up in a few really really high end talents.

This ...... if we can get 2 to 3 drafts spot on we definitely contend down the road

Last year's draft looks like we got right

Nailing this year and next year is absolutely crucial if we want to build a realistic contender

I have no worries about us keeping those young draftees down the track .... most who come are happy to stay

The problem with last year was that we were given access to our academy and didn't really have to do the hard work at the draft. Nas is still a wait and see as far as how he works out.

We need Toce to be an outstanding recruiter because we can't afford to trickle in a few GOPs every year for another 4 years to work out if he's up to it.

Part fo players staying is that we don't have a heap of players others want apart from King.

Pick 1 is that top 10 pick
Yes we lose 2 best 22 players and pick 9.

It is what we would do with Pick 1 that is key!
