Historically Twomey has had a poor handle on who we pick. He’s still the best journo in AFL media but doesn’t have great freo sources.
I can’t understand why Adelaide didnt nominate Keeler as an NGA?
There is every chance he falls past pick 40. Maybe they just didn’t want him full stop.

If Twomey doesn’t have great sources regarding the draft I don’t know who does.

Are we really going to criticise him for not getting our pick 30-33 right when every other journo is much further off than he is?

For a journo I actually quite like him tbh (I don’t like many of them).

Wasn’t a criticism of Cal Twomey. He’s a breath of fresh air in the Melbourne AFL media which is heavily infested with bullshit artists.
It’s just an observation that he seems to have closer and more reliable sources in a lot of other clubs than ours. Even when we had top 10 picks in recent years he was never fully certain what we were doing. Pretty sure he didn’t know about the Brayshaw selection at pick 2 for example.
It’s probably a good thing that we have less leaks in our recruitment team than others.
I expect Twomey to predict the entire top 10 this year in order correctly in his late mail draft rankings.

From what I've heard Adelaide just weren't that interested, maybe they don't see a place for him in the future or maybe there's something deeper, who knows.

So we’ve nominated 3 NGA’s but told them we only have room for 2, ie in the Cat B Rookie.

This assumes that Ultan Kelm isn’t coming, if he is then we have 1 rookie B selection for NGA.

So in the Draft we have the following picks

30, 43, 44, 65, 70, 77

Let’s say the late picks are sweepers to pick up the bids after 40 on our NGA’s, or to actually pick up in the ND an NGA like we did with Eric Benning.

That leaves

30, 43, and 44.

One I think should be a Magician forward. Thinking Munkara, Magor, Konstanty as possibles, or Less magician like maybe Jones.

One needs to be best ruck back up available, even a developing one like Barnett or Broadbent.

Is the other a developing Tall defender or a developing over 198cm Tall Key Forward, given we might get these in the NGA? Although we are thin for really Tall forwards, and Tabs is frail, and getting old.

If so who best fits the above criteria. Lemmey?, like him better than Scully.

I think we are ok with Mids now with OMeara picked up, and depth isn’t too bad either for developing guys in the mid.

I think the other spot should be another forward but doubt they go tall if they're going to take Scaife, so a small or medium. Even a mid that has experience forward or hits the scoreboard from the midfield.
I wouldn't put it past us to take another half back/wing type though.

Also, any chance Broadbent or similar will be available to us in the rookie draft? Would love to know the full story on Keeler.

Clarke or Jones
Dowling or Gilbey
Magor or Cole

Scaife
Draper

Broadbent or one of the other ruck prospects e.g Maxwell, Keeler, Owens, Verrall, Knobel, Steene, Tucker etc...

Im hoping we get Sam Gilbey. He was touted first round until his broken Leg and Glandular Fever. Not a need but has talent

Given our list status of 6 combined rookies, of which 2 can be cat B, I’m not sure much room on the rookie A list.

Sure we dropped Blakey and Crowden but that just means 2 can go on the B list. :-€

Re Keeler on Rookie me list… his endurance rating is about as bad as it gets, so suspect he’s not overly motivated hence Adelaide isn’t interested given he is one of their NGA

I thought cat-b rookies were outside the list of 42. We usually go 36 main + 6 rookies and then we could have 2x cat-b rookies to take us to 44 on total list.

No love for Hagan or steely Green?
Sure they are not flashy. But that is what Henry and Freddy bring.

The following is my understanding, so you may be right it’s all a bit like smoke and mirrors… unless the following is out of date

Clubs are restricted to the following list compositions, for a maximum of 44 listed players:

Regarding Crows and Keeler, there must be some kind of possibility they are being shrewd.

He is highly likely to go inside the protected top 40. By not nominating him they have cast some shade over him, and created a scenario where he may slide.

I think their first pick is 46. That may be the best and only way to get him.
