except for the two who did it last year? and Papley would have if he didnt miss so many games
Even if you discount Buddy because he's gone after this year, Heeney and Papley will always have 40ish goal seasons in them as long as their healthy. Also if Logan is gonna be our #1 he'll almost certainly be a 40 goal type too

Looking at the landscape, it's hard to see any possible key forward targets in the next few years

Part of me thinks we may not have to.

We are building a multi pronged attack that's balanced

Heeney
Papley
Hayward
These players are already capable of 40 goal seasons.

McDonald - Should be capable of 40 plus within two seasons.
Amartey/ McLean - Not world beaters, but should have 25-30 goals in them a season.
Konstanty/ Hall-Kahan both showing great signs.

We get a nice mix from the above and goals from Warner/ Gulden we are in good stead and unpredictable.

I dint think we need a superstar but after Reid we will be lacking that tall forward capable of taking big marks and providing the bail out option.

I do agree. I like the make-up of the forward line, its really dynamic and the types compliment each other nicely.

Paddy's ceiling as a KPF is higher than Blakey's and probably Tom's. Talls take years to develop and Paddy now has those years behind him. He's seasoned, he's solid of body (in a way that Blakey really isn't) and, especially by next year, he'll be more experienced and confident than he was while playing in those concussion-blighted years at the Saints.

I also think there's potential for Blakey to move to a different position, including in the forward half in future, but I actually really like him down back - it takes maximum advantage of his sizzling speed and neat field kicking and diminishes the significance of his lack of composure kicking for goal (although I think that will have improved, and will continue to improve, as he gains experience and confidence).

Tom I think really belongs down back - I said I could see him being a KPD long-term from the very day we drafted him (albeit not on this forum). He has never had great goal kicking nous or accuracy and while I can see him making it as a forward I am delighted he is down back. But Paddy really has the tools.
I'm not too worried about unsettling the defence by pulling Paddy out of it. The defence have a strong system and play very much as a team within the team. They are really well adapted to adjusting to different personnel. Even after the loss of Teddy and Reg and Smooch, even after we tumbled down to the lower tiers of the ladder, we have continued to punch above our weight in defence (say, opposition scores per inside 50). Paddy is not the most important part of that - I think Rampe and then Lloyd are much more critical when it comes to organising our defence. Hopefully by the time they're gone Tom will be ready to lead the line, perhaps with Florent and hopefully Gould.

SGBeach, don't agree with you about the McCartins being slow. Tom has excellent pace and endurance for a KPP. I'm not so sure about Paddy but he isn't really slow. Of course neither of them are quick like Blakey but you don't expect (or need) that from a KPD.
After watching Blakey in the VFL game on Friday I'm totally convinced of his value at half back. His reading of the ball in flight, body positioning, closing speed, sure hands (or fist) and fearlessness in defence plus his vision and precise kicking are just about perfect.
Occasionally drifting up to the wing to drive the ball inside 50 will just be the cherry on the cake.
Big year ahead if the impact of the glandular fever isn't too great.

Think that role will be filled by one of Amartey or McLean

McDonald is also hyper mobile so it helps.

Its pretty clear to me that we will need another KPF next year.
Paddy might be an option. The only decent argument against Ive read is from Uncle Horace when he stated that both player and coach ruled it out. That was said early last season, and as a lot can change, the comment would hold much more weight if said at the end of the season.

With limited internal options, here's a list i made a few weeks ago of players that may be available for trade
Apart from this list, theres always the left field trade which no-one sees coming

list is limited to players older than Logan, but still have a few years of footy left.. Eg Harry Himmelberg will be 28yo at start of 2024 season - too old?
Theres always the out-of-the-box trade.. Eg Naughton who is out of contract end of '24 - can we get him??

As I've said before the only realistic option is Georgiades, everyone else is either not good enough or valued way too highly by their current teams. Taking a punt on Kozi could work too but he wouldn't be walk on 22

Kp I’m talking

And that’s a minimum

McLean amd amerty are not good enough and buddy will is finished by years end

yeah I guess, but if 3-4 guys kick 40-50 who cares if they are big or small

Checking players coming out of contract, we're in a real good spot. Best 22, we have 5 coming out but only 1 would be due for a long contract - Stephens. The rest are towards the end of their career and I can't see going anywhere

It also highlights where we need to build from. 1 ruck, 2 key tall forwards and a general defender are all close to retiring.
