Patty can certainly play that forward line but I'd almost bet my house he won't return to that role in any major capacity.

Too much risk with concussion. Down back he can control his play a little more with the game in front of him.

Plus he was absolutely sensational in that role last year.

We need to find another key forward from somewhere, just not sure who that could be

I'm starting to think McAndrew is the key to the list management problems.

If he somehow he comes good as a long term Hickey replacement then Ladhams can play the Reid role and hey presto were looking good again ..
If he can prove to be a solid first ruck he'll certainly be a huge help but we still need a solid KPF to replace Buddy. If we could land TDK along with Ladhams & McAndrew, we have a very strong set of ruck & forward players that we could swap and change around as we please. Opposition teams would struggle to contain that.

They have

Cripps
Walsh
Mckay
McGovern
Curnow
Martin
Williams
Saad

All on big money so it's only fair that they would have slightly more cap space left over than us
Mcnuggets and Martin are out of contract end of this season.

We also have:
Dow
Cuningham
Marchbank
Plowman
Ed Curnow

All out of contract and likely only a couple will remain end of this year. While none of them are on exorbitant contracts, between them and Mcnugs+Martin we'll have more than enough to cover TDK if he wants to re-sign.

The cap also goes up 6% this year from memory. About a 650k increase roughly.

Don’t want him. Not a ruck at this stage.
Not anything at this stage. He's barely a footballer. Luke Jackson I can see the hype and potential on the field even if the results don't always show up. The same cannot be said for TDK (or English). Give me Rowan Marshall or Sam Draper every day of the week over him. Actual ruckmen rather than a stringbean who can run a bit

Probably a bit harsh. While I would LOVE to have Draper on the list, I think TDK as a load of talent and potential. To offer him a big contract would be a gamble though, as we have no idea if his development will continue the same. Will he be better than our other options? I already think he is better than Amartey and is on an upward trajectory.

After last weeks game I did not want to get too ahead of myself. But I thought exactly the same thing.

Not sure about key (I couldn't trust Ladhams at CHF) but he's been a nice surprise and the timing couldn't have been better.
Huge respect to the coaching department, he was a long, long shot when we picked him up, looks a possible/likely now

McNugs on $800k for God's sake.

Some people are just assy. He's one of them.

Has to be one of the most over-paid blokes in Australia along with Phillip Lowe.

I've got Ladhams down as a 3rd fwd and 2nd ruck.

We will still need to find another key fwd.

But we can survive with a mobile fwd line of Logan, Hayward, Heeney, Papley, Konstanty and Ladhams in the short term.

Over the course of his contract I believe he was on somewhere between 700-800 yep. But I imagine the first couple of years would have been fairly front loaded so doubt he'd be on more than 600 atm. Either way an abominable contract, unreal to think he managed to con SOS that much.

Jack Martin from the same club is worse, much worse.

There is an article in today's HSun about Carlton's list/cap space;

Unsurprisingly TDK gets a mention;
It makes the 203cm De Koning one of the most sought-after uncontracted players in the game, even if the consistent on-field performances aren’t there yet.

The slight headache for the Blues is De Koning’s preferred position.
In the ruck he will job share with Marc Pittonet, and in attack he is the third banana behind Curnow and McKay this year.
His preference is a 70 (ruck) 30 (forward) split.
Generally-speaking, $650,000-plus is good coin for a man who averaged 11 disposals and 16 hit-outs in his fourth season.

But we know the trajectory he is on. De Koning has superstar qualities. It has been seen in his brother, Sam, at Geelong.

Carlton said they want to start talks in a bid to snap up an early extension, but De Koning wants to play some footy first before discussions get serious.
If he fires, the price will rise.

The article claims Essendon and St KIlda will chase hard for him, with the Bombers supposedly having $2 mill in cap space.

I don't have any strong view on TDK, but the suggestion that 'we know the trajectory he is on. De Koning has superstar qualities. It has been seen in his brother, Sam, at Geelong
is odd to say the least.

Not sure TDK has demonstrated 'superstar' qualities to date and to suggest that we seemingly 'know the trajectory he is on' based on his brother's performance is just bizarre (Brett Goodes says hello).

As I say I have no strong view on TDK's potential recruitment, but I wonder which is his best position (bearing in mind his supposedly preferred 70/30 ruck split) and how much is he worth (salary and trade wise)?

If you look at Sydney's trading history.
We only trade in superstars. He is not one.
Ruck is a rookie farming region for us.

He is not a superstar.
Nor is he ruck territory.

I draw my own conclusion.

The Swans will be looking at someone. If they exist. Otherwise.
