I'm hoping the Dees have their eye on Jordon Sweet from the Dogs. Who has yet to put pen to paper, this is why I'm thinking our first will have to go to the Dees - who can then give something to the Dogs who will then bundle it up to get pick 4.

You heard it here first:winkv1:
I agree with the thoughts on Sweet. I feel that he would have been Sydney bound had we not got Grundy. I know, I'm getting ahead of myself here.
Issue is that if he's pi..ed off with being English's understudy, he would hardly want to go to Melbourne.

Reading that Port emphasized that he would be in the bubble and Sydney emphasized that he wouldn't and Sydney emphasized opportunities for Rachael his partner in her field through our connections I get the feeling that it was more about quality of life for both than anything else.
I doubt that Sydney didn't point out the footy stuff, just didn't labour it. I can imagine Hinkley going on and on. Harley would be a lot smarter.

hopefully harley told grundy: and if you make just one mistake, one tiny mistake in a game, don't go on the swans big footy board!

Bit of a difference being next in line to Gawn vs English though, i.e. 5 years difference.

Stringer might actually turn up to pre season training not 5 kgs overweight someday but not likely.
I bring Stringer into our club so he can't have his one good game a year against us. Him, Holman, Powell-Pepper and now Cotterill, 4 normally very average players who seem to suddenly become career best against us. I'd add Daniel Lloyd and GWS Sam Reid to the list but both will be retired for next year. Did anyone notice how GWS Sam Reid always seem to convincingly beat Papley when we played the orange skid marks?

Honestly think his going to stay.

I have complete faith he will come good
I'm with you. We talk about having a big bodied mid, Stephens has become completely jacked and still can run. His disposal is average because he lacks confidence but I reckon all he needs is a good run of games and he will be off and running. It was unfortunate he hit some really good form at the end of 2022 then struggled this year.

Give him a crack on ball in 2024 if he's still with us.

We’d better recruit James Stewart as well who has just been delisted by the bombers, just in case someone else picks him up 😂

He will have had another preseason and his improvement has been rapid. Plus he has the luxury in good back up from Mclean and Amartey.

The more pertinent question is is Ladhams ready to ruck full time for a big chunk of a season. His temperament, form and body has never really allowed him to do this in the past. What makes you think he could do it now? I'd trust Stretch before Pete.
We have ladhams for another 2 years and he will be the perfect backup for Grundy. This gives stretch two years to really develop his game to becoming a major ruck option that could challenge Grundy.
What a great place that would have us in.

I suspect (and hope) you’re right.

I’d just hate to think we were getting a player at the back end of a career not 100% committed to peak on-field performance.

I’m a glass half empty kinda guy, so always leap to the downside scenario!
You certainly are. Most rucks don't reach their peak until late 20s and are still valuable until mid 30. Grundy still has a minimum of 4 years of excellent football left imo. I'm convinced he was not 100% fit in his last year at Collingwood and it must have been difficult for anyone who has been at the top of the tree to then be forced to play second fiddle to Gawn whilst at Melbourne.
I'm confident, given a clear pre season, he will rediscover his AA form.

Reckon Port will be going after Sweet now that they’ve stopped the Grundy chase. Adelaide boy and they could easily promise him the number one ruck spot with Lycett presumably going, no trust in Hayes and with Visentini too young.

And if we pick up May (and he develops well), we’ll have a solid ruck succession plan.

With McLean, Amartey, and even Buller when required
