Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

OK, so we don’t know the players salary, the structure, the formulas or what goes into it; but we can work it out?

Seems pretty opaque to me
We know that band one is top 5%. We know it needs a two year contract. We know how many players there are at every salary level in the AFL.

We know that age matters and being younger is more advantageous for compo - but realistically all first time RFA's get it after 7 seasons, so their ages will be very close.

The general public don't know the final salary, but it's hard to imagine that those within clubs and management don't hear what the final number is.

We know that, in the case of an unusual result being reached, the AFL can step in - but I'm one of those that doesn't believe they're going to do that very often. Their self interest isn't just "Vic is good".

They do want an even competition, so they're probably going to lean in to try and get that. They want eyeballs on every game, and don't want obvious losers.

I think, if he's $800k it's band one. Sadly, I think he's genuinely getting that.

you do realise that trade period hasn’t even started yet, and just because targets and potential trades are not reported by the media at this early stage, it doesn’t mean there is other movements being planned across the comp that just haven’t hit the public forum yet

So who is on our radar? Who are we bringing in to replace these 2 mature aged, big bodied, aggressive players? I'm putting my money on we walk away from a trade period yet again with a list which is weaker before the period started.

That is true, but what’s going to be your response if we do **** all given we have declared this stage of the rebuild is about reading in experienced talent?

Absolutely nothing surprises me when it comes to the AFL and engineering outcomes they want
TBH I'm still semi-waiting for a strangely positive outcome to come our way. Feel like the AFL would be looking to throw us a pretty meaty bone after Goalumpire-Gate.

But that's looking less and less likely these days. They have probably moved onto laughing about it at AFL house.

Hi all

Mean no harm

I’m just a big draft enjoyer as I’ve seen my side collect number 1 after number 1 pick for years. Just interested to know what you guys think you need in the draft this year

Gold Coasts pick 4 and a top line midfielder

That's got nothing to do with the fact we wouldn't want to lose Elliott currently with our lack of height as back up unless we can bring in someone of equal or superior ability this trade period. If we can't secure someone I think we'll be reluctant to let him go especially on the cheap.

I doubt we'd care. Depth isn't that important, and retaining Elliot as depth when he's wanted elsewhere sends a message that our club/coaching group is willing to sell out a player career to protect themselves. After all, our actions say he's unwanted.

We can cover whatever depth we've lost by bringing in a SANFL/VFL/WAFL ruck with a rookie pick.

We had a really low injury count for most of the year this year - kept a few out of the team. Picked up a few more injuries towards the end. Berg, Crouch, Berry - all didn't get much time.

That said on Berg, trade him if there's value. Just do it.

I wouldn't say no to Jack Callinan late/rookie, you know that Crows supporter stuff thingy, of course the Roos would need to pass him over until pick 40. I think he has the good family thingy covered?

Son of a Crow that isn't a father/son? If so, Jake would have been school age while Ian was playing.

That kinda proves my point about how little we know

I noticed that Carlton just delisted someone with a year to run on his contract. Is that possible unilaterally?
Presumably thay will have to pay out the contract?
Yeah, can delist a contracted player, but their salary still forms part of their cap... unless another club picks them up.

Mate, you're fine. Respectful posting gets respectful posting back. If one of ours acts like a douche when unneeded and we have a few but they're mostly in the moderation team :) just check out for a day and come back.

Answer to your question, we need a couple of top tier midfielders*. Our forward line hums like a beehive, our defence is solid enough but our midfield needs some pace and skill. So it'd be nice if we picked a couple of those.

*please don't mention that you'd try Rachelle and Rankine in the guts, that's just picking open wounds, honestly.
