Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Such players don’t exist.

It’s asinine to think we’d carry a player we saw so little chance of development or future success in over another season

We’d not waste a list spot, coaching time and effort etc just to babysit a player for 12 months

It’s just a reheated version of your risible dead man walking theory

There are no players on our list we intend to delist in 12 months time

If this reporting is correct, 16 months ago there was a player we intended to delist in 16 months time. We just changed our mind...

I am happy to offer an apology re George if he confirms that it was deleted by a Mod.

Of course I would expect an apology from George for the original post 🙄.

It was deleted by a mod. Unfortunately BigFooty doesn't have a mechanism for showing the reason for deleted posts to regular users

Cat B's are harder to find, though. There's not that many players with AFL level potential who haven't played competitive footy for three+ years.

Only other option is Ireland, and I don't think we have an eye on anyone.
Mark Keane might know a few likely types. It's a free hit so I say ....go for it.

Except that it's only free in the sense of draft collateral. The financial cost of scouting and re-settling players from Ireland (and other countries) is prohibitive, especially given the high failure rates for these players.

Butts started really well and in difficult circumstances and looked like he could be top tier in that role. But he hasn’t really improved meaningfully, so he looks like being an ok KPD but one you’re looking to improve upon and consign to handy depth. I do think injury or carrying injury has hampered him somewhat though.
He's right at that "break out" age though so next year or so we'll see if his peak is higher than this year's.

I hope he will blossom. Jones did it.

Actually, that wasn’t the initial claim at all. The initial claim was below. His MO is to make it sound like a groundswell or concensus view, when it’s actually significantly less and/or much more moderate overall. Half of those posts could have been saying Butts looks injured, but that wouldn’t stop AFGM from paraphrasing as he did. But it does make him feel better, so who’s to complain.
The bloke is a complete muppet..

If you go back to the comments I made about keane replacing Butts in that first 2 pages of that “changes” thread he’s refering to, I clearly wrote “because he’s not right”..

It was clear to me Butts was carrying an injury..

He had a fxxked shoulder.

But this little liar fails to mention that when listing me and insinuating I was one of those calling for jordan’s head.. like I wanted him dropped due to poor form and not for injury reasons.

I am a massive defender of Jordan’s game.. always have been. He’s a very young KPD who is yet to hit his prime years.. I hope he’s all good to go for R1 next year

What I said was factually accurate.

You’re making things up to claim the suggestion was a ‘groundswell or a concensus (sic) view’.

Posts have been produced. Move on.
What posts have been “produced”?… he’s listed me as one of the persons calling for Jordans head..

Did you read my post (the one he’s referring to) at all?

.. In the SANFL..

he’s s**t.. his form is garbage.

so is smiths.. I don’t care that they played better in the last quarter. If they played better for ALL the game we would’ve smashed the Powa flogs.

parnell in.. Milera out
smith out.. jones in.. smith can be sub.
Berry out (inj)… but not happy with Schoenberg simply playing one good SANFL game and getting a recall so they need to find someone else.. out of Taylor, Brown or crouch. Schoenberg needs to put some solid sanfl performances in a row together.
Butts out (he’s not right)… Keane in
Thats what I wrote.

So I've been wondering - what is in place to prevent this:
  • A pretty typical trade is a clubs Round 1 pick for a Future 1 + R2 pick.
  • In year 1 you do that and you miss out on your R1 pick - so that's the hit.
  • But every year going forward you can make that trade. Effectively you will get a free 2nd round pick every year.
  • Over a long period that's huge value.
Why would you not do that every year?
We started to do that but then in the last couple of years, coinciding with our bottom out, we spent up all the picks we had and then some, but I expect us to get back to doing this in 3 or 4 years.

The question isn't really whether he's likely to be picked up... but whether the club cares if he gets picked up.

Given his poor showing at AFL level to date, the answer to that is most likely no.

I get the distinct feeling that Cook is rated much more highly on BF than he is within the AFC. BF fans see a lot of unrealised potential, the club appears to be coming around to the view that he's unlikely to ever fulfil that potential.
The dude had breathing issues that only got corrected last off season.

Those of us who watch SANFL noticed Cook came on pretty well towards the end of the season. He'll be one to watch next year I'd say.

A mate of mine at work has told me that Pettys Mum is sick and he really wanted to come home. If thats true Melbourne are DHeads. We bend over when players wat to leave our club for family reasons. SOunds like he will certainly be coming in 2025
If he really wanted to come home he should have requested a trade.
Doing it publicly puts way more pressure on Melbourne

I just think it was a fair call that some on this board wanted Keane to play AFL very early in his time with us, when he wasn’t ready.

You’ve got other issues with that poster which seem to be influencing this discussion, so Imma leave it be.

Fingers crossed, I hope you're right.

And the Bored Member from Port Macdonnell naturally joins the party.

Talking of over the top comments, I am still waiting for you to correct your statement that the Crows auditor said that the Crows finances were an “Ongoing Concern*” and subsequently assured us that there was no way that anyone would provide a loan to the AFC for our new club rooms. were you WRONG?

It is so inconvenient when posters are made accountable for their comments, isn’t it?

*I checked the annual report and the auditor stated “The AFC is an ongoing concern” which is statement used by auditors to indicate that the entity is still In existence and…….fortunately we are still an “Ongoing Concern”.

Provide an actual quote and I'll speak to it. We know how loose you are with your quoting/paraphrasing. And WRT your last paragraph, you're not confusing yourself with 'going concern' are you? Perhaps contact your mate who has millions of years experience with interpreting NFP financial statements. Coz all NFOs are the same, right?

No, you're wrong, no wonder you want to move on. The initial claim was attributed to the BF Board and that , "butts is effing shit, bring in Keane, he's looked good in the first 2 games". These are quotes, can you supply these posts you claim were produced that include what was quoted? Once done, I'll move on.
