"Sharply". Sounds pretty emphatic.

Did hear from the horses mouth a few weeks back that we were going hard to get a midfielder but hard to get and not many options. Not surprising with the injuries we have had and the way the season has gone we have pivoted to a KPD. Seem to be lots of options available

Mentioned Jacob Koschitzke last week as a cheap key position option, kicked 6 that time against the Crows, looked at him back in today for the Hawks and still has something about him just has really never put it together. Looked pretty good in the ruck too today, grab him to play forward and train Thilthorpe at CHB all summer?

It had previously been suggested we didn’t change Doedee’s offer even after he did his knee, but Theo mentioned the other night that we’ve given him a ‘revamped’ contract offer since his knee surgery.

Which I like.
Just on Doedee's situation specifically, it really leaves a player in the lurch if they're planning to change clubs at season's end but can't sign a contract yet, then get injured.

Would the rules ever change so the players can commit and sign earlier? Like in other sports where the deal is done and you know where a player is going at the end of season

Only if we can somehow get rid of Himmelberg

What would John Longmire know about our recruiting plans? 😆

Pick 2 on a CHB😮

Maybe he means putting TT through the Fogarty in defense program, where he wasted a heap of time in the SANFL playing a position he was never going to succeed in, all in the name of learning some irrelevant stuff

Out of the box target, if Crouch leaves - Worpel

Having a cracker season with the Hawks, and is a similar kind of clearance player to Matt, would pair well with Dawson I think
LOL ....this has to be a joke DIT

HAW tried to get rid of him in the off-season .....ask yourself why he still doesn't have a Contract for next year .....and it's not Worpel holding off

Borlase was gassed after 3 quarters, but his fitness will improve with another preseason

Can Borlase, Keane, Murray, Michaelanney, Worrall, Doedee, Milera all all fit in the same side

You watched him this year? Looks much improved and generally effective (like Crouch), and Hawks fans seem to think the same

Like I said, only if Crouch leaves, and he’s not my preferred target, but he could be effective for us as a bigger clearance mid

I watch every game ;) ......Worpel has terrible disposal .....why is everyone here chasing players with horrible disposal, then criticising Keays for his disposal ......it's illogical

He's playing out of his skin .....because he's another player, playing for a Contract, and AFL lifeline

If you think that about every player you’ll never trade in anyone ;)

Thoughts on Keane btw? Reckon he can be the answer to our KPD needs? I think so

He's been very composed back there .....exact opposite to Butts

His kicking coming out of defense is not rushed and hits targets ......more than you can say for Butts .....who lets face it, has been getting games this year by default

Yeah I think, assuming continuous growth over the next year, Murray and Keane is the ideal KPD pairing. Small sample size, but as you say, I like his composure, as well as his 1v1 work

I liked Borlase today too, played well above his height

Ouch

That's Butters isn't it?

Everyone here?..

1 person mentioned Worpel’s name.

how does that result in everyone here?..

what other players are “everyone here” advocating chasing that have horrible disposal?..

Let’s not forget after Borlase and Keane we basically have no one else. We’re playing our entire KP defensive depth. We have Murray out for likely all of next year and we’re already delisting McAsey. We needed another KPD regardless. It is urgent even though these boys have proven to be up to it.

Tom Highmore would be a handy addition

Read the post again ......I'm sure you'll get it

Pick 2 on a CHB😮
Collingwood had high hopes that a certain current day captain of their’s that they spent a first round pick on would be a dominant star 200cm+ key forward for them for 15 years, he’s now heading for his second All-Australian jumper as a star Key Defender. The game’s changed, having that key intercepting pillar down back is just as if not more important than having a star tall forward.

Sometimes it just works out that way, you spend such a high pick on a player as they are just supremely talented individual footballers but sometimes to get the most out of that talent they need to be more around the ball or have all the play in front of them, it’s the same if they’re 183cm or 203cm.

Maybe he means putting TT through the Fogarty in defense program, where he wasted a heap of time in the SANFL playing a position he was never going to succeed in, all in the name of learning some irrelevant stuff

Agree Fogarty shouldn’t have been played down back but at that stage I think the coaches just pretty much had no idea what to do to get the most out of any player on the list and the decision was made more so as a punishment not as an actual long term positional change. Also it’s not a exactly an apples & apples comparison as Fogarty has always had natural forward craft, Thilthorpe hasn’t, plus even in juniors when Fogarty played some half back he was heavily reliant on others getting him the ball and has always been so blinkered in his attacking mindset on field so playing a key defensive post was always going to hamper his natural game.

Thilthorpe’s a lot different player in comparison, he can get his own ball but more importantly he needs to start making the most of the natural abilities he does have as a footballer rather than having too much focus on what he doesn’t currently possess. His contested overhead marking when able to go towards the ball and his ability below his knees are his main strengths also not forgetting he’s a very team orientated person and his best kicking skills are executed when actually spotting up teammates either centrally or upfield.

Those are his biggest pluses as a player and the best places to actually take advantage of that skill set he does posses is either in the ruck (which is currently unlikely due to ROB’s magnet being superglued to the whiteboard) or playing the more modern day intercepting key defender role like what a Darcy Moore or Liam Jones currently play and have had so much success with in the current league environment.

even though our KPDs are a tad undersized, I truly believe that a defensive unit where 1. everyone knows their role, 2. each player always give 100% effort, and 3. who all know when to leave their man to help their team mates...is more than adequate in today's game, and this could easily be the foundation of a Premiership defensive unit. Defensive units don't need superstars. Look at Sydney in 2005.... Craig Bolton, Leo Barry, LRT, J.Crouch, Ben Mathews and Kennelly.....
Let's focus on 2 more elite mids. Really hurts to watch butters and rozee break out of stoppage. they are almost untouchable when they go on a run. That's what we need.
