I know you won’t like the idea of splitting our first but I would do it. Dogs have their own pick and a pick tied to Brisbane so might be keen.

Split first round pick
Trade one for Barrass
Trade F1 into this year
Trade TDK for a top pick, if he wants out

Barrass + two (potentially three) first round picks, would be the refresh this list needs. Try and find 1-2 low cost Acres/Hewett types. Campo boys next year.
Would rather just get Ben Mckay as a FA and do the rest of it. Barrass would be on loads of $$$ so the only difference would be he'd cost picks and Mckay would not.

If Dow had any sense he'd be in WCE ears. They'd take anyone willing to put in some effort right now and he's fighting for his career. Could be a great chance for him to get some much needed opportunities.
he might have less club giveupski in his dna than some of our supporters.........

Dow has been nothing but a professional during his time at the club. Might not have all the tools we think he needs to be an AFL player but I think he's genuinely improved every year he's been on our list. Seems to work on his flaws as well as anyone despite still struggling to break into the 22.

I'd like to keep him but I'd like to see him have an opportunity somewhere else if we wont give it.

can't argue with that........

Think the pressure is on to get back into the draft for us. Our first pick should be a good player. But our needs are still pretty hefty.

The problem is we have a round 1 pick then don't have a pick until the two in round 4. For a team looking to clean out the list a little bit I think that our currency is pretty poor.

Who can we trade? Can't have all of Cripps, Hewett and Kennedy on the list. At this stage Cripps looks a required player and Kennedy looks to be ahead of Hewett. What is Hewett going to net us in a trade? He was cheap for a reason, slow, immobile blokes who aren't great kicks are on the outer but he is a big contested ball magnet and every team needs one, just not us. TDK if he finishes the season off well could get us back into the first round. Ruckmen aren't worth high picks but a young developed forward/ruck will be worth a mint. Top end of the first round, that is if he plays more games like he did against the Suns. Don't want to lose him if he nails that role down. By the time a draftee gets there it's going to be too late, takes a lot of developing years usually. O'Brien will be offered for nothing IMO. He's behind 4 others for the wing now IMO with Hollands, Acres, Binns and Docherty being those options. 4th round if we are lucky but likely 5th. Dow I reckon might get us more than expected. I rate him, think we are making a mistake leaving him out. I bet there will be a number of teams out there who rate him as well. 3rd or late second at best. IMO would prefer we keep him and he proves everyone wrong. McGovern IMO is likely to stay, trade wise may be worth a 3rd but he seems to be up and going and settled now. Where is Jack Carroll at? Had hopes for him but it's been a slow season, trade wise he probably has no value. Plowman will be lucky to get picked up, feel his career in the AFL is probably done. Marchbank is probably in the same boat. Fisher IMO will be traded and may get us back into the third round. SOS is a free agent so would not net much.

Looking at our team now, it lacks forwards and forwards who can rotate on the ball. Cuningham and Fogarty gave us a taste of what that brings and it brought a fresher harder running for longer midfield. But their rotations were just small and they can't be relied on.

The team also lacks midfield speed despite recent changes. Pressure and break away speed. I think we can kill two birds with the one stone here and bring in quick mids who can go forward. I'm also hoping we put time into developing Durdin as a forward/mid. Pick 1 probably goes to this sort of player unless we lose DeKoning.

The other thing I am waiting for is a full game from Dow so he can prove himself. I think we are horribly underestimating where he is at now as a player. He was a slow burn but IMO he's there. What he's been doing in the VFL is what a good AFL midfielder would do there. Hewett could not even better Dow's output at the level and he's been getting AFL games. I still think he and Walsh can be two quick break away mids for us and give us pace at the stoppages. But we also need to recruit here as well.

I think we are good for smaller defenders thanks to some trading and finding some gems at lower level.

We have gone from bad to great for wingers.

As bad as we have been, I don't think we are too far off challenging for a top 4 spot, fix the pace issue and that will come.

Key position players are a focus for us as well. Got one last year in Lemmy who is looking a slow burn, still growing into his body. Lose DeKoning and we are once again looking for a forward/ruck. IMO I think we may find ourselves under pressure to keep TDK if he nails that forward ruck role. They take forever to develop and it can be hard to find/get a good one.

I don't know where we are going to get these picks from but we need to make some list changes.
War And Peace. 😉

There is zero chance we get rid of cunners or McGov

If Cunners get injured again you'd think it's almost a guarantee we get rid of him. If not, out of all the injury prone guys he is the guy I would give another year to as we don't really have anyone else like him.

McGov if he plays out the season you would have to offer him a contract. Obviously much reduced so he could ask to leave but I am not sure who else would offer much for him.

Cuners has got zip in the contest it's a need for us can't see us getting rid of him tbh.
A player with this attribute needs to be our prime objective this off season you can never have to many of them.
If Kemp keeps tracking like he is it'll make Govs signature less of a requirement we could make his contract purely performance based, a win win for both parties.

I would seriously like the club to outline every point in why they would want to offer McGovern another contract. Just tell us what he has achieved to date and or offer moving forward that would assist us in understanding?
If that's the criteria, 3 qtr of the list would be shown the door. Out of Marchbank, Cunningham, MgGovern, Martin, McGovern is the clear leader in at least being able to get back on the park. When he is on (ie doesn't have brain fades), he reads the ball better than most on our list, has speed and can attack from the back line. He does offer something, just not on the money or length of contract he has had in the past.

Would you also like to sit in during the discussions between Austin and Gov’s manager?

Maybe Nick can get your approval on the dollar value of any deal offered up? You might have some ideas on what the kpi-based incentives could be.

I’ve seen enough of said players to make a call, KPI’s or not.

You obviously don’t watch the turnovers or 1v1 defensive efforts or even consistency.
He should be paying the club for the next contract to stay on. That way we would get some ROI.

Here you go Ag ...

TDK - Keep
McGov - Cya
Newman - Keep
JSOS - Cya
Cincotta - Definitely keep
Kemp - Definitely keep
Marchy - Thanks for playing
Cunners - Thanks for playing
Philp - Hasn't played much, haven't seen the best of him
ECurnow - Thanks Ed you've been a warrior
Honey - Like to have another look at Josh
Fogarty - Keep
Plow - Cya (should have gone 3yrs ago)
Dow - Keep

I agree we need to keep all of TDK, Newman, Cincotta and Kemp. However Ed Curnow simply had to go.

I think you have to keep one of Gov, Plowman and Marchy, so I’d probably lean towards Gov as the best of a bad bunch.

Similarly we need to keep one of Philp and Cunners, a lot will depend on whether DC can stay fit for the rest of the year.

I don’t see any future for Honey who is just way too passive to be an AFL level goalkicking small forward.

I’m not fussed if Dow and Fog stay so long as it’s on a cheap wage and the contact is not longer than 2 years.

I doubt there’ll be any takers for Jack so we should be able to resign him if we want to. He is depth for both ends of the ground.

Sam Durdin is also out of contract so I’d keep him as key defender depth especially given how much Young has regressed.

Akeui may be worth persevering with as he is flexible enough to act as cover for multiple positions so I’d keep him too.

Mirkov is probably linked to TDK but I don’t think he’ll make it and I’d rather have Naismith as cheap ready to go ruck depth.

If the rumours are true West Coast are into Fisher we should move him. I’d also get rid of LOB but I doubt there’ll be any takers.

People are understandably burnt by McGoverns original inflated contract but he’d still be a valuable player to have on the list at a reasonable wage. He is best 22 and can play both ends. 13 games so far this year is promising.

I would like to keep him on the list for a modest contract. He should play alongside Kemp but not at the expense of Kemp.

For what we would receive (pick stuff all or nada) it is just not worth getting rid of a top 30 player on the list.

I’d definitely keep him on a more reasonable type contract for both parties more performance based … would take Gov before quite a few other options we have in defence … more importantly we better lock Kemp in asap

Mirkov is contracted for 2024, he’ll carry on unless his health condition is unsustainable to play AFL.
