Boyd is a no brainer for a 2 year contract. 2nd year in the AFL system and when called upon, looked confident, has speed, good decision maker and a very handy backman. If not injured would easily be in the best 22 imo and also in many others.

Being short on wing options, I would think it's a decision fraught with danger to either delist Cottrell or offer him a 1 year contract. He has amazing pace and can go forward to cause opposition defenders a hard match up. I think 2 years was the right call and at worst is quality depth.

Owies, yep I agree. I've never seen anything more than a very good 2nds player. Sure he has had his moments but 1 year or delist would have been my suggestion but clearly the club see him as a good player and handy depth.

Sometimes a club just needs to do these types of contracts. We missed the finals by % and we are only 1 game into the season and haven't lost a game. I'm just confused people are so concerned. Of course we could go badly but we also could have a great year. Yep sure, we could have a few more quality role players on our list but we needed to keep our solid group together as best ad we could and go to the draft. And from the picks we took at the draft, I'm beyond happy.
Was more about the strategy ..I like Boyd and cottrell but I don’t reckon any other club was giving them 2 years .. we don’t take risks and every year there is 2-3
Players we have that everyone says in here they are under contract so will
Stay that extra year

So after Damian Barrett’s report this morning, who would everyone rather have Ben McKay or TDK??

Think people forget how good Kempy was before his ACL, and how pleased we were with the deals done on draft night. He was an elite prospect and perhaps still may be.

Philp was the strange one. He unfortunately will never get the chance to show what he's got.
Kemp has not been given enough opportunities in my opinion. He is a good player

Players Still OOC...

Cincotta, Kemp, Marchbank, Akuei, Curnow, O'Keeffe, Silvagni, Motlop, Honey, Fogarty,
Plowman, Pittonet, McGovern, Newman, Dow, Big Durdin, Philp & De Koning...

Priority
Motlop

Rest
Need to prove themselves this year

Trade Bait
De Koning, Silvagni, Kemp & McGovern

Id add TDK to your priority list.

You could also add a get rid of list, headed by Marchbank, Silvagni, Philp and Fogarty

So... at the end of 2022, what is your alternative? People keep saying we can't keep injured players but give no real thought to the next step.

And trading for established replacements just wasn't an option.

Are you seriously suggesting that in the world of the AFL, there were no suitable replacements for two players who cant stay on the park? None? Anywhere? That we could have got at very minimal cost? To suggest there were no options for two perennially injured players is ridiculous IMO.

Delisting March or Cunners doesn't get us any of those players. Trading the pick we used to get Lemmy might.
Also, none of those players provide something we need compared to the role and talent that Cunners and Marchy have.

Talent is meaningless if you are always injured.

It's an argument you don't have knowledge on and I'm more than happy with my understanding of our cap and the players that actually wanted to get to Carlton. Not every player does and we had a very good off season.

In isolation it's not concerning. After how we finished last season the game on the weekend was very disappointing.

Not sure how we sign Owies and let Setters go either? Baffling

I don’t think he has done enough to deserve any opportunities.

He has looked fine when he has come in out of necessity.

Has he ever had even a month of dominant form at VFL level?

My understanding is that he often gets moved from attack to defence, defence to attack. I would argue it would help if someone made a decision on his best position and stick with it.

I’d imagine because the coaching staff don’t think he has earned the opportunity.
Maybe wait till the end of the year to make that call.
ok but can this year be the last time we say that if Cunner and/or Marchy don’t get on the park?

Reckon he would have played a role for us on Thursday night?

Possibly and I would have preferred keeping him, but that simply wasn't possible, given what he was offered

Although, I wouldn't solely judge him on his outing today, Hawks are cemented to being bottom 2
