Cornes spruiking, that TDK is the hottest property OOC and clubs should offer him $1m a year...
Hope we get a $1m season out of him this year...

If he gets a deal like that, I'd rather let him go and spend it on Sean Darcy...

I’d rather not spend huge $$ on a ruckman particularly one from another club. They’re a bonus and not a necessity.

Offer TDK what he’s worth. If he still wants out at this point of our build so be it.

If there's something like 2-300k per year difference, then fair enough.

Depends on his motivations.

Look at Geelong. Plenty of players playing for less than they could get elsewhere.

Create a successful environment, players will want to come. Players also want to stay.

It wasn’t long ago we had the youngest and least experience list in the league.
The transformation in the past three years has been immense - through both internal growth and recruitment.
Someone will start talking about the daft premiership clock soon enough.

Not hard for that number to shoot up after we spend 3 or so years recruiting experience and minimising draft picks.

We'll drive that number down again this year.

We have done remarkably well to not play finals and keep our list together. The culture must be fantastic.

However, it stands to reason we will start to lose players as their value increases.

TDK is not a top 10 player for us and can't be paid as one. If he gets offered crazy money, we cash in at the draft. We have depth and currency now.

Can't see how the Cats would have more coin than us by the end of the year to lure TDK.

Nor would they have the picks unless they trade out players of value ( sub 27 year olds or younger)

It would then mean taking unders to play with his brother

Surely they will have quite a few retirements

Supporters lament our injuries, but they have actually served to make our list so very much deeper at bargain basement cost.

Charlie discounted partly due to injury downtime and paying back the club/group.

Marchbank and Cuningham on minute contracts compared to what they would be if stayed on park. Matt Kennedy has been paid less than he would have with injury and related form/opportunity issues. Not sure how much his current contract has caught up.

Injury slows on development of Kemp and to a lesser extent Philp and Honey. Jack Carroll and even Jordan Boyd would be in unders against their projections. Newman kept to basics with regular hiccups.

One would expect that Doc will re-sign for unders given his long convalescence during the last contract. Our rucks have had affected programs, likely keeping prices down, at least until TDK’s upcoming contract conjecture plays out.

We are down on bang for buck on McGovern, Martin and Williams’ big deals, but they haven’t hurt retention to date. They have served to affect recruitment strategies. We are loaded in some areas because of doubling down on trade ins and drafting while we had comparable players developing or unavailable due to injury.

This year will be a reckoning of sorts. We will rejoice if all get on the park together, but that scenario will create nightmares for our list management team regarding retention. If we have to lose a couple, it is to be hoped we add significantly to our draft bounty.

I think our potential wingers will have to have a good 2023, with the spectre of the Camporeale twins on the horizon. Not a bad thing for our depth issues at all. But it does mean the guys like Cottrell and O'Brien need to continue producing.
Yep, our current investment in runners, along with what we are likely to get in the future is telling. FWIW, I don’t see Hollands as a winger long term, he will transition in to the centre square when Crippa, George and MK start to slow down.
Expect an apprenticeship in a variety of roles over the next 2-3 years as his body matures. Binns possibly similar.

Remember too that Acres is 27 and a possible candidate for progression down the track. We are rounding out the list nicely.

Carlton have told Kobe Ryan (West Adelaide) that they will be watching him very closely this year.

He was still on the board for us - but we had no list spots available.

Perhaps a mid season pick if we have a spot available?
Our new management are certainly in favour of the old style, genuine footballer ball magnets. Biggest deficiency is kicking, so we are putting more emphasis on getting hands on the oval shaped thing.

Unpopular opinion incoming.

I’d let TDK go if we were able to replace him with Ben McKay.

If the McKay boys are serious about playing together this is a no-brainer.

Ben won’t be cheap but we’ll have the means to get it done.

TDK is a good developing player but I have him clearly behind Pitto heading into 2023.

I also believe we already have a very adequate - and arguably better - replacement for him at the club already. We’re just playing him in a different position, which we won’t have to if we bring in Ben.
