I've banged on about it earlier in this thread, but Hollands would be a great get - fits our list needs and profile. Still only 21yo, so still has lots of room to develop in the right environment. Mid/forward with plenty of x factor.

I'll get shot down for this, but I wouldn't care that much if our future 1st was on the table as part of a deal to secure him (he is still contracted). With the Campo boys all but committed in next year's draft, we'd just need points rather than picks - similar to GCS this year. And list spots over the next few years are going to be at an absolute premium, so we may only take 2 picks in the ND anyway - similar to this year.

Say, our future 1st for Hollands and their future 2nd. Fish to North for their pick 39, Dow to Saints for future 3rd.

This year we bring in Hollands, Duffy, Monahan, 1st round selection, pick 39 selection.

In the 2024 draft, we have our 2nd round pick, GCS 2nd rounder, our 3rd round pick and Saints 3rd round pick - which should give us plenty of points for the Campo's.
I’d be happy to give up our first round this year or next for hollands . Mid/forward . Could just play forward for us and has potential to kick 35 plus goals I believe . Could easily went pick 1 in his draft if it wasn’t for his ACL. Fell out of love with Dew and left in the VFL. Look at Flanders impact dew moved on Flanders in the midfield for the sun having 30 disposals a game.
Some players just need the right coaches and to be played in their right position. Hollands isn’t a wingman which he is playing in the VFL. He can get high number of clearances and kick goals playing forward.

Even if he's a first round pick talent, his trade value is nowhere near a first round pick.
Would be a shocking waste.

Key list management needs
Quality small/general forward who can kick 30 plus goals in a season.
We have heaps of rebounding defenders but we need a lock down small defender
If you’re a list manager go back through games of Papley, Cameron , Pickett and see who beats them regularly. That’s the player we trade for.
Key defender most likely through draft
Develop in VFL and under weiters
Atm marchbank, kemp, durdin , mcgovern are good players and depth but aren’t huge man. A tall 197cm plus defender to develop

Yeah, I think if (big if) Hollands was to come to CFC, and if (another if) Dow is traded out, it'll sort of be for similar value.

Another benefit of our recent success is that the price we paid for Cowan (future 2nd to the pies) looks more and more advantageous to us. Was looking like a mid 20's pick mid season but is now a likely mid 30's pick.

Also the future 3rd we paid for Acres goes from early 40's to early 50's. Does really feel like we just picked their pockets.

Would be like asking another club to pay a first round pick for Dow - because he was drafted top 3. And Dow has more runs on the board than E Hollands. Should be a 40+ pick for Elijah.

If we could get a first round for Dow, that would be brilliant (just like GC would love a first round pick for Hollands). I reckon a late second for Dow would be fair at this stage, and a third for Hollands (although I could see GC asking for a second). Maybe Fisher equals Hollands (with making lots of assumptions). In all this, I reckon we at least want to do the right thing by players if a trade meant they had more opportunities elsewhere. And this doesn't mean we give them away for nothing, but just being reasonable.

But. But surely we follow the Dodo model and try and fleece everyone in every trade deal?

It's worked so well for *

☺️

Conversely we go out and trade for Papley, Cameron & Pickett. Problem solved?

Owies and Motlop are not far off that. Owies has 27 and Motlop has 24. Owies has only played 18 games. Motlop has played 20. If both play all the games we would have 2 over 30

Quick medium forward in the Jack Martin range.
Forward/mid, one who pressure, kicks goals but can also have an impact in the middle.
Key defender who can run, Liam jones type, not another Sam Durdin or Lewis Young.

I think we have some things developing within our list. Would love to see us solve the forward mid thing by developing Dow, Motlop, Durdin and/or Cuningham further.

We are teetering on the edge of too slow in the midfield. If Dow goes, I hate to say it but we should be looking for another player like Dow.

The perfect player for Carlton is a player who is a forward/mid who can play midfield like Dow and play forward like Jack Martin. They exist but they are rare and very valuable. Ticks a lot of boxes though.

Keeping the list together is going to be an issue. Can see Fisher and Dow going elsewhere. I would love to see them stay. Fisher can work with Saad as a foil to him and develop at half back further. Dow can develop more as a mid/forward. We can develop one of the best midfields and running half backs over the course of next season and finish the season a better team than we finished this season.

With Jack re-signing today until the end of 2025, out of contract players ...

2023

Paddy Dow
20. Lachie Plowman
22. Caleb Marchbank
28. David Cuningham
34. Sam Philp
36. Josh Honey
38. Sam Durdin (MSD Rookie)

Surprised Riley Bonner was delisted by Port. I would take him on if we lose a few of our depth players. Suspect he will get some better offers around the competition though.

Just spit-balling... with various positive words from players re Marchbank, can see him getting another year (unless body folds in next game). All the rest - even Cuners - could be looking at a new club. Interesting post season, as all the above have something to offer the club.
