I don't think we take the ruck in that scenario. Dawson instead. We've been linked to a couple of rucks rated later in the draft recently which I imagine is the contingency for an irresistible slider. Either could be rookie list so we can look at best available tall or small forward with the very last live pick (if we don't do any creative trading).

Going to do something a little different here, since the Grand-final is essentially the Melbourne cup of our great game, I feel the Cox plate is our Draft! In horse racing terms this is my take on our first two selections in the Draft. The field of five is as follows: 1/ Colby Mckercher: Raging favourite a long way out, his run in the Caulfield Guineas was outstanding to win from where he did, got blocked for a run halfway up the straight then zoomed home to get up on the line. He's only small but possesses a great finish, bred to run the trip. The one to beat. 2/Zane Duursma: Another youngster who ran a slasher in the Caulfield Guineas for 2nd, came from last and railed like a greyhound to be not beaten that far, he's another that will relish the extra distance and even though he's growing into his body if he gets a crack at them in the straight, will make things interesting. Trainer has said he will be better in a couple of years, but has the talent to win. 3/ Dan Curtin: Very good stayer whose run in the Caulfield Stakes was good, got a fair way back, but ran on steadily for 2nd, don't know about this track as he's a long strider but in the mix; has got the blows with the bookies from 3-1 out to 6-1, make of that what you will. 4/ Nick Watson: The leader, very fast who pulled for much of the race but still battled on for 3rd in the Guineas, if he settles can see a big danger to Colby and Zane, very classy. 5/ Ryley Sanders: The big ? Youngster who has bucket loads of potential, finally putting it all together but can he run the distance ? Big money for him coming from 8-1 into 4-1, there is confidence from the stable so has to be respected.

Would be very happy if we came away from the draft with this haul as per Cal Twomey’s latest Phantom Draft.

Pick 2 – North Melbourne – Colby McKercher
Pick 4 – North Melbourne – Zane Duursma
Pick 20 – North Melbourne – Darcy Wilson
Pick 22 – North Melbourne – Riley Hardeman
Pick 23 – North Melbourne – Mitchell Edwards

Look, Darcy Wilson slipping to those teens picks… can’t pass on that opportunity.

But I’ll be gutted if we walk out of this without a KPD. I know the ruck lads are promising, but in that scenario if we can get Wilson and Hardeman, I’d pick a kpd instead of Edwards and address the ruck position in another way.

Thursfield said that we are picking talent first and foremost, and that will address needs in doing so. Wilson falling to our teens picks would be striking gold. Edwards arguably best ruck (off field concerns though) and Hardeman the best pure half back flanker. Amazing if we get those 3 and better than reaching for Dawson.

Can someone tell me what has happened to Murphy? He was sitting around 15/20 and has since dropped well out of that range.

Seems like something must have happened given no games have been players since. Anyone have any idea? Is he a possibility for us to grab with that later pick or would we need to trade in earlier?

In everyone's defence but mainly mine (I didn't actually go hard on anything)

Both the Sanders intel and the Reid Intel was reliable enough for it to spread.

It also wasn't reliable enough to suggest it came from the boot strapper who heard it from our 44th player who then went and told everyone.

I think it's been discussed before but "inside source" could be as the above - some random with the slightest affiliation for the club who heard it from someone else who etc etc.

Still, just like the Dustin Martin and Josh Kelly stuff, where there's smoke there's fire

FWIW my "source" was nervous as he'll as well when essendon entered the rave last year for clarko. Take everything on here with a grain of salt, I know I do - even from my "source".

Thanks and actually wasn't you. But you're noted for next time :p There are two posters on here ( I'm not one, I hear **** all, but when I do it is normally correct) that are normally bang smack on the money.

People would be well served following their work, this time of year.

Nothing wrong with stating we've an interest in 'x' player, kind of exciting to read tbh. But some state " done deal". That i find annoying. The worst of the lot is kickitallovertheshop69.

He had intel on al clarko, and nothing since, I find it rather annoying, and most likely will come of the long run next time he fronts up with his bullshit.

Testing was conducted at the combine and it proved he was as slow as cunners with a hangover

I would probably pass out and when I awake will book my September holidays for 2025.

The above would be mental, but won't happen, I am coming to terms that a distant relo will most likely be playing for *

Totally understand the concern with the lack of talls on the mock drafts.

This is 100% a position of need, however let’s not pretend our run and carry off half back/endurance is not also another massive concern.

The mock drafts appear to show are addressing that and I think that’s very smart and allows us to actually put our best foot forward with the game plan Clarko wants to play.
