Teague imo likely knew he was a dead coaching wallking in the final few weeks of his tenure.

No matter what happens for the rest of the season, from all reports Voss won't be sacked before or after the season ends.
Apart from the meaningless words of a president under pressure, what reports are we talking about?

Midfielder. I see him in there with another young one. Durdin. ?Cripps or and Bam Bam forward .

Yeah can see him rotating through and playing ahead of the ball more as well. Not a skill comparison but a role one - bit like a taller less contested petracca before he moved more into the midfield. Over head strength and agility. Think he's too attacking and creative to be a long term lockdown tall defender.
Yeh can cop the odd error Kemp makes. Can't cop the schoolboy errors Gov made against the Swans last week (i.e. failing to shepherd, giving a holding free away for holding a man half his size)...
bit of a concern. Think he's just playing well within himself. Did see him overlap run at least twice which is a slight improvement on the week before. Hopefully stays trending up for gov but he's been lacking.
Still think he makes it, but no, has been a liability last 2 weeks
nah. not at all.

I guess we will never know.

Forgetting about Dow it’s about all the players on the list. Some get selected regardless of form and some will never get rewarded. Terrible for team culture I would think.
Absolutely. Can’t see how you get buy in if you don’t apply same selection criteria to all players. As an example this week port captain has been dropped to find form. I can’t see us ever doing anything like that if it was necessary.

Blues currently bottom 4 in goals kicked and goal assists - Melbourne Top of the league for goals and second for assists.
Simple targets - team needs to get to kicking 3-4 goals a game more than it is currently achieving....otherwise goodnight Irene.
Most of the damage is Conversion % - I can't find a teams-wide stat for that on footywire.

Finally some sound analysis. They average 15.6 goals and 9.8 behinds per game. We average 10.7 goals and 12.4 behinds per game - and that stat also doesn’t include shots that fail to register a score - and we know we’ve had plenty of them!!!

As much as people on here don’t like the “game plan” it’s generating enough opportunities but the players can’t convert the chances. I believe we can fix it and go on a bit of winning streak but we need to fix it up asap otherwise the shit will hit the fan.

Surely Dow has to come in regardless of whether or not he can perform at the top level. Without knowing how he is performing during the week, his performances on gameday for the have been very consistent and has had his tackle number go up this season which was always a knock on him in the past. The reason why he has to come up though is our problem (in my opinion) is a lack of effort, and when you have someone that is clearly putting in the effort in the twos that needs to be rewarded simply to show the message that hard work pays off.

Also, why do we need 5 back flankers and 4 wingers in the team, especially when these back flankers dont give us any real run and carry.

would have liked to see LOB and Acres (his kicking isn't helping our situation, but I admit he has been handy this year) not in the team, Walsh to play 100% mid and try put Saad on a wing or somewhere further up the ground. Being tagged in defense means that we are getting nothing from him, maybe being higher up the ground gives him more room to run and find space. Don't worry if his tank is no good, sub him at 3/4 time if necessary.

Get Cripps (he is taller than Charlie, and was damaging when camped there last year, but that experiment seemed to have stopped) and Kennedy sitting forward more often, rotating with Jack (as a mid, not only a ruck) and Fisher just to get a little more zip around the ball and a slightly better work rate. Would love Ed in the team to also rotate on the ball (yes he is old a butchers the ball often but again, his work rate is better than most. bloke busts a gut to provide an option other than bomb it long).

ridicule this as much as you like, but we gotta throw the magnets around somewhat to get our stars in damaging positions to impact the game and improve our work rate and be a little less one dimensional in the midfield.

Not disputing conclusions that we are generating opportunities but as a stats guy it's not a good analysis. What type of chances, average distance and difficulty, are generating more because we're missing more because we're shooting from tough angles? Are Melbourne not averaging more shots because the games reset to the centre after a kick from 20 out right in front ? What's their average kick difficulty? Etc etc etc. Are most shots generated from set shots or open play? Rushed behinds included? Hard to draw any real conclusions from goal kicking stats other than we miss too much but due to the overwhelming number of input variables that lead to that conclusion it's hard to then to judge it on merit or even compare it externally.

You’re right about that but there’s even more issues going forward with the footy. A lot of our players aren’t recognising the cues at a consistent level to really punish the opposition on turnover. We rarely use the fat side to shift the defence and when we do we miss the shot. The worst part about all of this is that we are getting cooked at centre bounces. So when we do kick the goal from turnover, we usually lose the clearance and get forced to defend again. Just watch the 2nd and 3rd quarter against the swans. It’s actually painful how much all our effort gets undone by all the things I just mentioned.

But why wouldn't he replace Hewett??? And BTW if you hadn't noticed, the stellar midfield you have listed is ranked 16th in the comp, the team is 12th and we are not playing Finals.

Can understand not changing a winning formula, but we have a losing formula and a lot of it is a consequence of having a one paced SLOW midfield.

This way they can stop the stupid plan of Kennedy in defence, he replaces hewett effectively.

Cincotta will go down back.

Don’t want a superstar just pick a kid who is trying his guts out every week, is in better form than those in similar positions in our first 22, and try something different with the game plan.

Ed Curnow as sub ain’t cutting it every week.

I watched the vfl last week, and he was fine, but he isn’t better than Kennedy, who essentially is playing ahead of him.

We barely have room for kennedy in our midfield mix at the moment, been using him across half back, which is also stupid.

In better form in the VFL. Put Cripps Hewett and Kennedy in the VFL what sort of numbers you think they’d rack up? He’s not ahead of those 3 at AFL level. I wish he was I really do I love the kid. But he ain’t. Ed’s done and I agree I’d rather Paddy’s even the sub but offers nothing different unfortunately

They’d be racking them up and be more damaging. Dows disposal still isn’t great, he is good backup but he offers us nothing better than what we already have.

I saw this in the vfl last week, he was fine, but unfortunately for paddy, we already have enough players like him in his role.

Lochie O'Brien has played 65 senior games and many more in the reserves, he's a known quantity.

Yet, is repeatedly selected after being dropped for clearly being well below AFL standard the moment any pressure is applied.

Dow, however, is not afforded the same.

We lack wingmen, we don’t lack inside mids. This is why setters was let go, Acres was recruited, kennedy has been stupidly used at half back etc.

I’m not a Vossy defender by any stretch, I hate our game plan and watching us play, but playing Dow isn’t the panacea to our issues.
