Dow has played 65 senior games and many more in the reserves, he’s a known quantity.
For what it’s worth, I like him and hopes he finds a new club next year which gives him a crack at achieving a career at AFL level.

Hes 23 years old and and 40 of those games were in his first 2 years. Played 17 games in 2021 when he was 21, you can't be a known quantity at that age he has improved his output in the VFL immensely, just give him a 6 week block at some point this year to truly find out.

Lochie O'Brien has played 65 senior games and many more in the reserves, he's a known quantity.

Yet, is repeatedly selected after being dropped for clearly being well below AFL standard the moment any pressure is applied.

Dow, however, is not afforded the same.
We recruited three wingers in the off season because we know O’Brien is not up to the level. His fate will be the same as Dow’s.

Apart from the meaningless words of a president under pressure, what reports are we talking about?

Well you never say never in this Caper (especially with regards to our footy club) but I very confident Vossy will still be our Boss next year.

At any rate, our list is overrated and not capable of winning a premiership (in my opinion) so I am nor sure if changing coaches every 2 or 3 years will fix that.

The issue isn't one or two players - we are just a team lacking all forms of confidence atm. Nevertheless, I do want to see some changes to the midfield rotation. I have said for a while Kennedy should start at HF and Cripps, Walsh, Cerra and Hewett should be the main four centre square mids. Give Docherty, Kennedy and a Fisher-type the other midfield rotations. As much as I love him Ed Curnow needs to be as far away from this team as possible.
Our current modus operandi or lack there of is eerily similar to the back end of Teague's tenure. Once that confidence goes in team structure and then permeates into individuals, very hard to arest.
And again with an inexperienced head strong coach without any senior support or experienced guiding hands that should have been put in place post review, we are witnessing the same play book as the previous two coaching regimes.
This cycle of ground hog day, like it or not won't stop till you have proper decision making from the top down. Sacking the coach won't do SFA.

Going over old ground however the review was done ex the board when the problem lies with the decision makers on the board and key roles of the executive. Cook came too late, damage was done of lack of impactful outcomes from pissweak review orchestrated ex those the blow torch needed to be directed at before he could do anything football ops wise, and board excluded so nothing done on that front either!

Sayers is done by virtue of term anyhow so mute point but next chair appointment is so important, has to be external, arms length to the club and a search process governed by industry best practise.

We have it covered luckily, Sayers can orchestrate PWC to oversee that it is a transparent process governed by best practise principles..........

I think we have a chance. I've got a good feeling.
.of course we do. With Oliver out, we are capable of matching them in contested footy. We match up pretty well with their forward line and having multiple big stars negates their biggest weapons in their backline.

As with every week though, it comes down to tactics. We have been so obsessed with defending that we can't kick a wonning score. Forget the goal kicking - that is a symptom of a team that has no ubderstanding of how to use the ball to kick goals.

If we play attacking footy, get the midfield forward and spread the ball laterally to get them involved, and we beat them in contested footy we could totally win.

If we sit back defensively, try to score by blasting haphazardly to Charlie and Harry down the line every time, wr have zero chance.

Honestly, team selection is just as irrelevant this week as it has been all season
Either wr have made changes to our system and structure, or wr haven't. If we have, we can win no matter who plays 5th midfielder. If we haven't there's no ppint watching.

We lack wingmen, we don’t lack inside mids. This is why setters was let go, Acres was recruited, kennedy has been stupidly used at half back etc.

I’m not a Vossy defender by any stretch, I hate our game plan and watching us play, but playing Dow isn’t the panacea to our issues.

No one expects Dow to fix everything.

Just give us another reason to watch beside "It's Carlton".

Cripps can't even box out Heeney so I'd say we'd definitely lack for competitive inside mids at the moment. Names on paper aren't enough to make up for how bad our midfield has been. Otherwise our season wouldn't be on life support less than half way in.

Agree, Voss‘s may continue on next year & fulfill his contract, the pressure to be conservative and non reactive is is enormous our club.
However should we lose the 3 remaining games before the break it’s going to be tremendously difficult to ignore more and sustained critical focus.

I realise we’re short on options but LOB in the team really does not enthuse me, ever.

A few people keep talking about a top 4 list and I have to cry.
Agree LOB will take us nowhere, he’s done. Why are we “saving” Binns when two debutants played Rd 1 and now they’re both out. Now we can’t carry one first year player??

Just mind boggling

Question for those smarter than me.
Grundy/Gawn, Van Rooyen and Fritsch are the main 3 Melbourne key big forwards - if you want to include Fritsch.
Why have we gone so tall this week, especially when we could have done with the extra tall back last week?
Are we planning on using JSoS, McGovern and Kemp back (Scary) or JSoS & Young forward (FMD) or Young, Kemp. McGovern & Weitering back (Be very afraid)????
The more I look at the opposition teams and then our selections, (last week was another), the more my head hurts!!!

IMHO, Young should play ruck/resting forward

Wonder if JSOS starts back and MMG forward?

Would prefer Young play relief ruck than JSOS.

Backline looks tall / slow with Boyd and Docherty (both bench) improving that.

If Fisher had a 40 possession game in the VFL he wasn’t playing forward pocket. Let’s see if he can do it up the field at AFL level.

Starting trio of Kennedy, Cerra and Cripps (with Acres on one wing and Walsh on the other) doesn’t work in my opinion, too slow to put any defensive pressure on Dees mids. Expect Walsh in the trio. Sit O’Brien on Langdon.
