Why? There’s nothing wrong with celebrating history, regardless of the present.

Would you be saying the same thing if we were on top of the ladder and premiership favourites? I bet you wouldn’t.
My focus is on football first.

Great club, great history and I adore the stories the past players share first hand, with those I know...

However, top or bottom of the ladder, don't care... for me... focus on the game and delivering the result.

Like with every club, when onfield performance suffers, the distractions aren't needed. Its just my opinion though.

Hence the question out to BF to see what others think

Is this actually happening? Haven’t seen anything about it.

Well, I think that it's pretty clear that he won't be at Carlton next year. As far as Cuningham goes I can't see it, love him as a player but he's far too fragile. Kemp I'd be doing everything to hold onto, should be a great player within the next couple of years. The next two to three years of trading and drafting will be important, we have quite a few players that will need to be moved out. I do believe that we can do that while improving.
Their have been examples of player's who have turned their careers around. From being injury prone for year's one end, then all of a sudden to becoming reliable and resilient. I think of the Aussie captain for one. Saw him debut against South Africa, took a few scalps and bowled really fast. Then he hurt his back, took him nigh on five years to get his body strong enough again for test cricket. Probably the best fast bowler in the world right now, just as well he had the support of those around him during those tough year's.
I know, different sport and all. Yet with Cunners I see something special always have. Really looking forward to seeing him come in to the team after the bye and make a real impact. I know our midfield needs an injection of pace, however I think Davey can do so much damage as a high half forward.
Just praying that he can get through the rest of the year with no further setbacks, he is the only one of his type that we have.

Yeah, because nothing says "we're a club super in touch with reality" more than rolling out all of your trophies from the past, the most recent of which was nearly 30 years ago...

The last thing Carlton needs is using how good we used to be to argue against being shithouse for 20 years.

Mick Malthouse was spot on when he said we have a giant rear-view mirror at Carlton. Used to be the vibe here too, but reality slowly sunk in.

This period of shiteness is now a considerable part of our history, accounting for between 11-14% of our existence and between 57-70% of our AFL history.

In the pregame last week they showed highlights of his last VFL game. On the surface he got 35 disposals if something like that but something like 19 of them were either ineffective or were straight up turnovers.

If you can't kick in the VFL and are a turnover merchant at that level where the pace of the game isn't close to what it is in the AFL then what chance do you have of being an AFL regular?

He had a few nice touches last week in a game Melbourne felt they had in their total control but in the heat of a battle the opposition would know he doesn't have the disposal accuracy required to beat them. He might get away with it for a game or two but then the opposition puts the work into him and he's done.

The other problem is that he just doesn't offer a point of difference over his other teammates. If he had another string to his bow you could try and use him differently but he just doesn't.
The problem that you are missing is that if form is not the key criteria for selection, which is clearly not the case at Carlton, then this is not creating the right environment for the playing group & supporters are equally frustrated that Voss & MC continue to play favourites.

Again never going to know if Dow does offer a point of difference until you try, and in reality what the hell do we have to lose nothing at all, we are bottom five.

As mentioned he will go to a new club & do well next season.

I would equate form in the VFL to much more than just getting touches.

If he was getting touches AND using the ball well then I would consider that good form .

He's only getting stats and butchering the ball half the time he gets it.

Clean up the disposal so he's damaging the opposition and I'd have no problem agreeing with you. Until then. He needs to keep working on it.

With Each passing weeks loss and boring team selection it’s becoming more and more difficult to find any joy in anticipation of an our next game. I’ve still waiting to get excited about this afternoons game. There is still time I guess.

I’m more excited to go and watch Cunners at 2pm.

Tonight is probably the most unpredictable match for a while though and may well end up being the most revealing. I spoke about signs of Bolton/Teague etc era vibes after the Crows match. I think we could see tonight whether the players are throwing the towel in and giving up on Voss or whether they are willing to get their hands dirty to pull themselves out of the hole.

Dare I say it but it’s a winnable match imo, even at significantly less than our best. There were tiny signs of improvement last week and our awful forward 50 entries are more likely to pay dividends this week than other weeks.

We could also get flogged if Voss has lost the players and the Bombers are ‘on’.

I’m interested for what it’s going to reveal about where we’re at as a Club, as a whole, more than anything.

I see exactly where you're coming from. I just expect to see an article next year when he is on another list of them talking about that they know his deficiencies but they focused on what he is good at rather than what he is not and worked to his strengths

Obviously would like a win today against the injectors. Vossy needs it, players need it and us supporter's.
However if we do happen to lose, then at least MV may then relax a little knowing that we have zero chance of making finals.
Team selections all year have indicated to me that Voss and MC have been absolutely desperate to play our most experienced players every week with the hope that this will give us the best chance of winning.
After the bye, it would be great if they gave our younger player's more opportunities. Hopefully Dow has a good run of games and does well.
Like to see young Binns debut and play at least eight games this year. Hopefully Jack Carroll can overcome his injuries and come in and impact as well.
Cowan is playing pretty well in the two's, would like to see him come back in as well.
Crazy Vossy needs to start to think about next season very soon, has to admit to himself that this season is shot.

Ha

l don't believe that is a accurate reflection at all, let's just stick to our gun midfield and not try anything different.

As per previous Jack Martin one game straight back in he needs a solid foundation, we are setting him up for failure continued underperformers in the senior team escape bring dropped.

We are bottom 5, let's start trying many players on the list going forward instead of sticking to the same game plan & list.

I don't know why people have trouble separating something that speaks to our past from the present situation. I think the reaction here says more about what is wrong with our 'supporters' right now than what is wrong with the club. You're all just determined to crap over anything to do with the club right now, sticking the boots in over anything it does. It's very predictable and just a little shameful.

Let's hope we win a few games and silence some who only come out to criticise.
Glory Days
Is a lot of why we've been stuck for over twenty years Gab.
I'm sorry you've lumped me in with the type that only come out after we lose...after all the years of unbridled optimism about our club that I too shared.
I'm hoping our woes are only short term too, but this, won't stop me from voicing feelings of dread about our club. There has been a lot wrong for a long time.
I absolutely believe it would be a dumb move to once again resort to Glory Days.
If it's a deflection attempt, it isn't going to work. Although clearly it still does for some.
Don't forget we are ALL Carlton supporters.
We can speaK our feelings and hopefully engage in debate without being called 'bad' supporters, or being trolled by selection of emoticon?

Edit: just saw both clubs are doing it for pre-game. Different context now I suppose, but no, I wouldn't be doing it atm.
And why?
Because it highlights that Bombers are much closer to 17 than we are.

Our club is a laughing stock right now, whereas Bombers are on the up.
Ayway Gab, enjoy the show.
Cheers.

That's the point isn't it?
Hmmm, I don't get it horsey. Yes, we are shite, but we can still be proud of what our club has achieved.
I reckon its a great initiative, bring it on. Who knows, it might even inspire the likes if McGov and Young and our captain to put in their best efforts for the season so far. Go Blues.

sometimes I wonder if Cooks comments (not the end of the world if we don’t make finals) was a wise response. Things have been going shizenhousen since.

Our players arent mentally all that tough so a comment like that from high up probably weakened the minds of our players in terms of fighting for wins just that little bit more.

Cook should have said “absolutely are aim is to make finals”. Like sayers did later on.
