Yeah, because nothing says "we're a club super in touch with reality" more than rolling out all of your trophies from the past, the most recent of which was nearly 30 years ago...

The last thing Carlton needs is using how good we used to be to argue against being shithouse for 20 years.
Is this actually a thing?
Why has it been brought up? Would be about the worst thing we could do right now and highlights a lot that is wrong with our club.
Surely it isn't being considered is it?

I'd imagine that it's more than just Voss who has decided that he has no future at Carlton. You blame development for every player who doesn't make it, I'd blame poor recruitment in some cases. We picked very poorly at the top end of the draft for a few years there.
Is dow a bad pick when some draft watchers had him as high as top 1. All had him top 5. Was a required position at the time too. Idk - sps the same and without the hamstring and hence running issues would be a player but he can't kick 40 metres or sprint now. Don't see much wrong with the picks.

All good enough to be drafted. None good enough after.

I don't know why people have trouble separating something that speaks to our past from the present situation. I think the reaction here says more about what is wrong with our 'supporters' right now than what is wrong with the club. You're all just determined to crap over anything to do with the club right now, sticking the boots in over anything it does. It's very predictable and just a little shameful.

Let's hope we win a few games and silence some who only come out to criticise.

All had him top 5? That wasn't what I was hearing at the time but whatever. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. They haven't turned out to be very good, including LOB as well.

Well like alot of people l have very little faith in the MC & Voss and ruling a line through a player sends a very poor message.

It’s very ******* simple, I don’t get how people cannot understand it.
The best player in the VFL for the last 2yrs has not been given 2 games in a row playing as part of our midfield to show whether or not he’s AFL standard.
Whether he is or not is a moot point- no one knows as he hasn’t been given the opportunity. Throw in how badly our midfield has been going & it’s the reason why it continually get brought up.
It’s down right ******* stupid
Yes. You’ve hit the nail on the head.
  • Go back to the 2’s and work on your game ✅
  • Improve ✅
  • Play consistently at a high level ✅
He has done this for two years. He deserves the opportunity to show if he’s up to AFL level, particularly when those selected before him are struggling.

It is totally perplexing.

Never thought I'd see someone actually defend Carlton's ability to develop players.....

I don't agree at all but let's agree to disagree and move on.

Could you please point out to me where I made a definitive statement regarding player development?

Well unless rapid change occurs soon, pretty certain there will be significant change as right now we are probably in the bottom 2-3 with our total inability to score.

l can understand your opinion if we were performing & our mid field was playing well, but that is just so far from reality it is no funny.

The midfield is bottom four on form right now?

"Well we've tried NOTHING and we are all out of ideas unfortunately!" seems to be how some people see it I guess. Blinded by names instead of wanting to roll the dice before our season is officially dead. No issue playing the squibs but you dare suggesting rewarding VFL form and they lose their minds.

The funny thing is, we are all desperately hanging in to what ever positivity we can, we want change to see a glimmer of hope in the club we love. We want players to be given the opportunity to shine & play to their strengths. We are hoping every week we try something different as opposed to the same thing that see us losing week after week. We aren’t shitting on the club, we want to see the best the club can do- which isn’t ****ing happening!

I was only speaking on Dow and made no commentary on the team's performance. My concerns are much broader than what is happening with the selection or otherwise of a fringe player.

Arguably the best Simpson’s quote ever 😂

I don't totally agree with everything you say but the frustration in where we are exists across the board.

That's how much our list has improved .. gibbons come in played nearly 20 straight 😂😂

You trying to deflect by suggesting we've just chosen the wrong players at times is still defending. Worlds smallest hill to die on.

It's not poor luck or poor recruitment it's just shit development. We've done nothing to suggest it's ever been "poor recruitment" with all the opportunities we've wasted.

WatchEd Tigers game and Hawks games. Unless You are a key position player or a highly skilled small forward..as Hardwick, said, can’t run, can’t play. The pressure the constant running and closing down. Our games look nothing like the games those teams have played this weekend.

Dow can’t run, neither can Cripps and Kennedy but thats who he has to beat. Dow is even more one dimensional than Kennedy and Ed is in for one reason he can run. It’s sad but it is true. Yes he cant kick, he can’t mark all he can do is run and he can tackle. The game changed about the time we drafted Dow, it won’t go back.

Thanks for the update, didn’t notice he played.

I obviously can’t use the line he hasn’t played in months but I’m sticking to my guns that his selection is a kick in the teeth to others.
Definitely agree. The kind of player he is I don't think the statline 16 handballs and 2 kicks exactly screams select me.

What are peoples thoughts on the rolling out of the 16 premiership cups by each team on game day?

In my opinion, it shows how out of touch these clubs are with reality...

Why? There’s nothing wrong with celebrating history, regardless of the present.

Would you be saying the same thing if we were on top of the ladder and premiership favourites? I bet you wouldn’t.

I'd suggest that the coaches and the club would know exactly why he isn't a regular member of the team. He's improved maybe in the areas that he was good at already, has he improved in the areas that he's deficient in? I'm not so sure but I'm sure that they would know and so would Dow himself.

In the pregame last week they showed highlights of his last VFL game. On the surface he got 35 disposals if something like that but something like 19 of them were either ineffective or were straight up turnovers.

If you can't kick in the VFL and are a turnover merchant at that level where the pace of the game isn't close to what it is in the AFL then what chance do you have of being an AFL regular?

He had a few nice touches last week in a game Melbourne felt they had in their total control but in the heat of a battle the opposition would know he doesn't have the disposal accuracy required to beat them. He might get away with it for a game or two but then the opposition puts the work into him and he's done.

The other problem is that he just doesn't offer a point of difference over his other teammates. If he had another string to his bow you could try and use him differently but he just doesn't.
