I’d drop sos for pitto…I love sos but 5 disposals isn’t great…tdk can spend more time forward…his tackling was fantastic on Thursday…acres for lob…durdin in if available aswell

Bizarre isn't it, all the talk of Martin, Fisher, Owies should be dropped (yes they were all poor), yet Jsos had less touches

not really - it is 'old Carlton' types - believing in fairy tales.

SPS DOW LOB FISHER CUNINGHAM PHILP STOCKER KEMP SETTERFIELD KENNEDY CARROLL

not a great ROI is it? Who was the main architect of this 'investment' ? - Voss?

The Club was able to secure the services of Hewett and Cerra - one a developed genuine AFL midfielder and the other a developing midfielder to plug the hole that sees so many vaunted high picks not cut the mustard in AFL for one reason or another.

Poor Kennedy - cops a bollocking from Jimmae at every opportunity - for being last man standing out of that lot ( I still have hopes for Cuningham and Carrol) and Fisher is being given every opportunity to become a running linking high half forward...

So it seems that the ordinary ( me being generous here) return on investment from the above list of names is all on Voss according to Jim - because he hasn't shown the players any video footage...

I am not a buyer of the argument.

Austin has been on teh back foot since he arrived trying to plug holes in the list sans the draft/trade collateral that the previous bloke got to splash around.

Saad and Williams were about covering for Docherrty's two ACL's and other health issues- a bonus that Docherty has come back - in line with Charlie making it back from 3 years off.

McGovern isn't on Voss , Marchbank and Cuninggham isn't in on Voss- the latest Cuningham set back is just a poke in the eye to coaches and supporters and team mates. Durdin/Walsh isn't on Voss - both valuable starting players...

I find it a tad strange to see a creeping blossoming of anti Voss feeling in the pearls of wisdom thrown around - as if game plan sans personel to execute is viable. Equally strange is the lack of perspective and context around some of the draftees some of the trades and the current list portfolio.

For the sake of continuing debate- I would have given Murphy a fond farewell after his 250th ie two years before he finally retired on 300 games because that was the agenda for Teague - 300 games to Murphy - all that time lost to developing younger players for AFL duties and the cap that could have should have been better spent elsewhere. Perhaps Eddie Betts another Teague call along with McGovern were also big reaches- especially given contract lengths...

The move from lower middling bottom 4 wasn't achieved on the back of SOS list management as far as mids goes - that is for sure. Where Carlton is at right now is on the back of Cripps /Hewett/Kennedy and Cerra - nto a bunch of phony 'better runners' that don't exist.

We have a platform to build on from here much more solid than it was even two years ago.
Agree with everything outside of the Murphy part.

There are some players that deserve to be shown loyalty by the club, he was absolutely one of them.

You can't make an argument for better management of list and matching player to output criticising players who are performing above their cost and criticising list management for not investing in needs- whilst carrying a bloke who by his own admission couldn't use his shoulders to make a tackle or take a mark. That is my point. As to your point being loyal to players who deserve it - I'm not a buyer- a player is part of your portfolio and each part of the portfolio 'owes' a return on investment commensurate at the minimum with investment - every player needs to be able to add value to on field performance - and if that isnt the culture - well lets not complain about lack of finals or relevancy.

I saw the same outrage last year on here when the coaches made Jack Silvagni a sub - the old Carlton is still alive and kicking - needs to be buried.

Sure, if you continue to turf players like this though, you're going to find very quickly that players won't want to come here.

If prospective players are seeing old club captains, players that stuck with the club when times were tough etc getting tapped on the shoulder, the culture will look shit from the outside. Why go to a club that doesn't appear to look after it's players?

If Murph wasn't as loyal, he really should've left us a long time ago. I'm all for rewarding those that have bled for the club over a decade.

Jack is different, he doesn't have the runs on the board and his last name shouldn't protect him. On that, I agree with you.

the only way he can stay in is as the mediumish forward, one of he and martin should be fighting for one space with TDK and pittonet in the team.

his endeavor is excellent but the ruck thing should be the emergency option

Letting a player go after 250 games - a player who isn't physically up to doing what is asked of fellow team mates in similar circumstances isn't 'turfing' them out though is it?

I think Judd retired too soon because of to much was asked of him for too long - helped by too few. I dont want to see Cripps retired early because DOw and Setterfield and SPS and Fisher need time to develop ...I dont to waste Harry and Charlie by surrounding them with inappropriate other forwards for year after year ...I dont want one of the bast on ball mixes in the game to be wasted because we don't have a ruckman who can hold his own against big bodied rucks...

Everything requires balancing all the time - Carlton hasn't achieved finals relevance yet - let alone serious contention for a flag. You have to develop at the same time as harvest to be a strong Club.

Time to play Dow and actually give him a good block of games with decent midfield time
We are actually desperate for a burst player from the stoppages so why not give him a decent crack
Dow, obrien and Durdin all should come into the 22 this wk
Yes l know Dow has his critics and fair enough, but whilst Walsh is out was the perfect chance to give him a month, as much as we admire Ed Curnow this is a backward step bringing back into the team in his phrase of his career, he is a endurance runner not quick which we are lacking.
Cripps/Kennedy/Hewitt in the same mid-field needs to be complemented by some speed, l would have hoped Carroll or Dow would be given the opportunity whilst Walsh is out of the line up.

The old boys club mentality ay..

like Martin, always had a soft spot for Fisher..don't know why but I do.

yeh narrow draw (feels like a loss) or like the last 2 games of 2022.
I feel more positive about this game than last weirdly. I think our midfield will get on top & the blue boys will be better for the run. Cats backline is depleted - we have a good chance if we can win the mids battle.

It is if you aren't aware of the physical limitations. I must admit, I've never even heard of him saying his shoulders were rooted.

I do very much agree with what you're saying for the most part.

Also a lot of chatter about the matchups. Tiges play a mobile ruck + smaller ruck so we matched.

Melb have 2 guns so we play our best 2 ruckman.

I'd love to see us play the 2 guns even against a team like the Tiges. Let's back our superior ruck and height contribution as a bigger advantage than the additional run their backup ruck (Miller?) has. Good luck to the Tiges if Nank has to take on both TDK and Pitto for the majority of the day!

Please don’t roast me for this cause I love Hewett as much as anyone but it could be a blessing in disguise.

The midfield is just too similar. Need to change some things in there. Might give us a couple of games to figure that out

Not Acres for Lob. On an “off” night Acres still got 16 touches - based on LOB 1’s career, we would view that as a pass mark for him.

Acres is proven at AFL level, LOB isn’t (well not yet anyway).

I'd like to see SOS actually play as a forward. I think the ruck thing has played its course, more or less, and teams are now planning around how they can take advantage of it. It was a cute idea in the mould of Grigg and worked ok for a while, but even Richmond and Grigg only did it for ~ a season. This is about the 3rd year we've been doing it.

He won't be a world beater up forward but he plays with more nous than anyone else up there and clearly his best role is when he's being used as a lead up target on attacking wing. We need some IQ inside the last 70 to goal and that's his M.O.

What's this about Hewett??

Also, no chance it's a blessing. He's our best 2 way mid, bar none.

Yes lets look at us losing our 2nd best available midfielder possibly being injured as a blessing in disguise. Seemed to work out fantastically for us last year when he went down too.
