I think Ed has played his last game. Voss will move on. He has been waiting to get his first choice mids back. They’re available now. I think Voss likes Ed’s voice and knowledge of game plan and he has used him to fill in. I don’t like it but that’s been the go.
The same thing he was using Newnes for last season.

I think the team now has the maturity and leadership density that we don't need to play an 'old pro' just to straighten us up.

am I a monster if I want more from cuners?
Of course not, can't help but think something is not quite right with him. Since returning he has been going okay, bobbing up for the occasional freakish goal. He is capable of more, hopefully Vossy sits him down and has a chat about it. We are really going to need Cuners to turn it on, during the finals. I will back him, to do just that.

I felt something I haven't felt in a long time yesterday - belief. At qtr time I didn't start doing other stuff around the house - I thought, nah we can come back.

I told myself not to even bother anymore until we were actually in the finals - and here we are, it's unbelievable.
I'm not good at remembering things or stats but when was the last time a team had a complete 180° season turnaround of this magnitude?

Good times, Be NAVY!

This moment, along with Charlie taking the game sealing mark epitomise this win for me. Jack Martin, along with most of the team, had patches where they took the easy and ineffective option. His play-on checkside effort that didn't even result in a score in the 3rd was a moment of frustration, but he was also capable of this.

With 9:12 left in the 4th, Martin halved a two-on-one contest, which allowed Acres to apply pressure that resulted in the ball spilling to Motlop, an immaculate I50 and Charlie's goal that truly put us within reach of Gold Coast.

Opposition fans and naysayers can point to luck, but it's also moments like this that have led to our resurrection. We've had a list talented enough, but when they're willing to do the unglamourous, difficult and selfless things, the Blues are capable of anything.

Martin is playing like a man possessed. Has never played finals in over 10 years of football. His pressure is phenomenal. Week in week out. Showing leadership I never thought he had.

5 points up and just under 2 minutes to go you should be trying to get a mark inside 50 to kill it.

Did the right thing, chipped it around but they kept going backwards…was doing my head in

Need to be working much harder to provide forward lead ups

Better this week, still lots of teaching to go

Imagine not having Charlie Curnow on your team

What a privilege to have the best player in the game

I think there was a lot to like. The game was close yesterday because we were beaten in the middle of the ground - Witts was superb against our ruck pair, Flanders, Miller and even Rowell were strong, and with Cripps clearly hampered, Dow and Hewett were both fighting against the tide for much of the day. I put both in my votes, because without their efforts, we don't win. Hewett once again was strong in close, but I was really impressed by the range of things Dow did. Not just the increasingly dependable clearances... but intercept marks, overhead, at least one of them contested. Previously unsuspected strings to his bow, which reflect both increased confidence and the fact that for all his six seasons in the AFL, he is still learning where to run. He probably hasn't been as especially quick learner... but he is getting there.

McKay was very important yesterday. Someone has already said it, but I also think he was the difference in the game. The Suns are well-served in the key defensive posts; Ballard and Collins give them a good balance of intercept and lockdown. The pair of them would have curtailed Curnow one-out, enough to win the game. And I was encouraged by McKay's physical work. He wasn't his usual self in the air because he didn't jump, but he was vigorous at ground level. I especially liked the handball he fed out to Hollands in Q3 (if there's one knock on Hollands, he is Setterfield-slow getting boot to ball, and he needs to address that somehow, because he has all the other tools).

Most importantly, we are starting to see smooth forward connection. I think this is the final set of pieces in the puzzle, because we will always dominate stretches of games, against any opposition. We've traditionally struggled to put ascendancy on the scoreboard, but now we are changing that. Brings me to Curnow, and what superlatives are there that people in this thread have not already used? He is a force of nature, not just consistent, but inevitable. I love that everybody (our players, opposition, supporters and neutrals) knows in advance what's going to happen. Contested marks, aerial and body-on-body? Check. Spring-heel snapped goals when the ball hits the ground? Check. Best of all, watching him wheel onto his right, knowing that something amazing is about to happen 70 metres away? YEAHHHH

Very pro blues crowd, barely noticed the sun’s supporters.

Was weird, I was quietly confident we could get back in the game despite the deficit.

Only 10 weeks ago, if we got 3 goals behind, it was a bridge too far.

We were scrappy but I felt we had their measure.

Mentally tough, but to go deep into finals there is still a lot to do!!!

Does Gov automatically replace Marchbank?

I'd argue that is unlikely.

I do like Gov but Marchbank has him covered for intercept making... such a massive talent. A shame his body has been so fragile.
Not on exposed form he doesn't. Govs been brilliant. Marchys looked slow, loses his feet and is being out bodied too often. Not a long term comment I'm talking about now and heading into finals. If there's one spot for the two of them. It is govs.

I still think Harry will become a bona fide star too. Not that he isn't already, but.....

He won the Coleman in a weak side, he should be right up there with Charlie in goals scored....

We just need to work out how to maximise the pair's output when they play together....
It's all there already , literally the only missing piece is his set shot accuracy and goal kicking routine. I'd love for him to bail the around the corner stuff all together , hire a goal kicking coach and just set a repetitive routine in place and do the same damn thing every time no matter how far out or wide of target..

Definitely.
We have to get busy bringing back our superstars Walshy and Cerra. That will be exhausting!!!:tongueoutv1:

If only we won just one more game to have a realistic chance of top 4.

I've been doing my head in thinking, "if we didn't drop those games against doggies, dons or swans, we'd be top 4".

But then I think, maybe we don't go on this run if we win any of those games. In fact I'm pretty confident we don't.

The Pies' other games thread is quite ironic. They believe we would be bottom 4 without Charlie, our game plan is too simplistic etc etc.

So Collingwood with a couple of injuries have been losing quite a few lately as opposed to us keep winning with a few injuries.. umm yeah.
I mean they might be right, we would be kinda average without curnow

But we have him and they don’t ahhahahah they can get stuffed
