Scoreboard aside, a few areas of interest

Not manic or slow, but constant movement of the ball and players providing options.

More run from behind the ball carrier and players remaining options in chains

More players hitting the scoreboard, mids, wingmen included rather than just Harry and Charlie having big games

More midfield rotations, cameos especially centre bounces, Cripps, Hewett, Walsh, Cerra, Doc, Acres, Hollands, Durdin, Fisher, Honey, Cincotta, etc

Hahaha I never get over the size of Harry considering how fast he is and how well he collects the ball from the deck.. It's genuinely ridiculous. That's the 192cm Brodie Kemp next to him, it looks like me standing next to my 165cm missus (I'm 183cm)!!!

Hope Harry can impose himself on the game early and turn this form around. Or, play him like Richo up the field and have him kicking i50 to Charlie one out. Harry has more gifts than anyone else in our team, maybe more than any other athlete in the competition to be honest. Would be a huge tick this week if we can leverage him and maintain the clearance work we heavily improved on last week.
Harry himself says he's 205cm.

His speed is elite, as is his marking.

Need a back of 6-10 tomorrow and he'll have found his mojo again....

Why are they persisting with Honey?

Surely you could put Kennedy forward and drop Honey who has offered nothing since being in the side and it'd be an immediate upgrade I argue that Kennedy is also a better marking target .

Excited Kemp finally getting a chance. Now for Binns, Carroll and Dow to get theirs

Agree but winning isn’t definitive or is it ? I’m nonplussed about our season so far . I guess we are building . Yep that’s it .

Its definitive when they hand over the premiership cup.

And the players need to learn about how much they will regret later on in life if they didnt give it everything in pursuit of that.

First two points are good ones. On ballers aren’t smashing the opposition because they’re a bit too spread out, not in each other’s pockets doing short handballs to each other as soon as they get hold of the ball like last year.

It looks to me like we’re trying to force more turnovers at half back which is good and seems to be happening but again we’re a bit too spread out, not linking up through handballs and having huge numbers around the ball carrier to run the ball up the ground like Collingwood. The spreading out and short kicking slows the play up and gives the opposition time to suffocate us.

He looks very low on confidence at the moment which is a big concern. Him and Fisher really need to show a bit tomorrow as replacements are coming soon. Motlop available next week, Owies seems to be edging closer and I reckon Cotts could play the Fisher high half forward role - kicks goals but also a big upgrade defensively and from a pressure perspective.
Honey should never have been brought into the team. Interrupted preseason into poor VFL form is no way to build confidence.

Personally I think there are a few tweaks to be made around contests and link up play between the arcs which could make a big difference - but ultimately, the major fault lies in the inability to transition to advantage quickly enough. I see that Voss's priority was to force more 'control' in the game s part of the preparation for true finals football and stop conceding 5 goal run ons - which has been achieved - however, tempo football has to have more than one gear.

Doesnt help that Hary's kicking accuracy has gone from strong to weak as it exposes the horrible efforts of the rest of the forwards and the missing midfield goals- which IMO are a sign of poor movement and defensive ability in our forward half.

I miss the overlap handball game from the first half of last year - that saw the team look genuinely top4. Someone broke the midfield connections that were on display back then - and it all started when Pittonet got injured. We need to accept the limitations of the weak other four forwards- but it is inexplicable to me how disconnected and impotent our on ball running game has become.

Hard to disagree with the observations made though isn't it...

Just having a laugh mate, havent read it and cant be bothered. As someone else here says its likely only lifted from our words all week.
Pretty much yes as you say. last years style wasnt going to hold up in finals so Voss is tinkering. Think we missed Doc and Saad more than we may care to admit the last two games. Perhaps the bonus long term from that will be how its highlighting the forward weakness. We need a Johnno at HF flank.

Jhonno is Akermanis. Ok. I’m cool with that.

Part of what is killing our small/medium forwards is our horrible Nathan Buckley/Leon Cameron/Longmuir/Chris Scott pre last year, ball movement.
Chip kicking and marking around your back half kills any opportunity for ground level forwards. They get no open space to work with when there are 12 defenders to get around when the ball actually hits the ground in the forward 50.

We have to get our overlapping run going again. And we have to start kicking more aggressively forward.

Sideways (unless quickly and aggressively) kicking, is a killer at AFL level.

You could see Ross just licking his lips in the box last week. 140 marks, 14 to Harry(nearly all up outside 50), all allowed, indeed invited, by the opposition. All resulting in 8 goals for the team.

I might be clutching at straws here but has what happened to Weitering have anything to do with his form?

I wondered this too. And I think I remember Fev saying something along the lines of when he was having financial struggles, it lined up with poor form as his mind wasn’t on the job. So could be something to that?
I know that is a totally different situation, different player and different person. But something that huge would always be on your mind I would think.

Not clutching st straws at all (generally speaking)

What happens off the field spills into what happens on it and vice versa

Some players are better able to use that for positive performance boost while others it negatively impacts performance.

Has SOS ever been trialled in defence, like for an extended period of time? If his role was the intercept defender could he slim down a little to make him slightly more nimble?
Has done for a short stretch. Was ok.

He doesn't want to play there because of inevitable comparison to his dad.

How much stock Voss would put into that if it was required, I don't know.
