Perfectly predictable. What I would hope to see now is an even more outraged reaction from these same people when Mackay gets pick 3! He's not worth it! (And I agree with that, but that's irrelevant).

Regarding Buddy, I presume that he got band 1, while Doodee gets band 2. They just both happen to be pick 19.
These plonkers don't seem to realise the equalization nature of the FA compensation.

Nicks played Dawson in the midfield…

in R1 against Freo in 2022.. for about a quarter and a half!

Cause Nicksy then panicked and moved him to half back/defense when it didnt instantly work.. and thats where Dawson pretty much stayed for the rest of 2022.. and for rounds 1 and 2 this year..
This is factually incorrec.

In 2022 Dawson spent most of his time on the wing or at half back with small spurts at half forward or as an inside midfielder. (Unless you believe that the wing is not part of the midfield 🙄). Champion data track this for every player. Would you like to guess his split between midfield (wing + inside mid vs defence in 2022 according to Champion data)?

For those watching on the tellie, how do you know who is playing on the wing? A modern wingman is usually seen in the D50 when the opposition are attacking and are then required to run forward when the ball is turned over. The clue is where the player lines up at each centre bounce (you can see this most times on the tellie). If a player is lined up on the wing at the centre bounce, guess what, he is probably playing on the wing.

If/when you see a Crows match live, have a look at where our wingmen go depending upon whether we or the opposition win the clearance. If there is a stoppage in our D50 our wingmen are not standing on the wing (it’s not the 1960s) one or both wingmen will be on the defensive side of the stoppage.

Having said that this is why I refuse to believe there is an objective standard.

If Crouch walked the year we made a grand final he would have been band 1. It's all reverse engineered as ****

so they single out the crows player leaving for compo - not the north player thats done nothing to warrant pick 3. Nothing ever changes..wack us and free pass everyone else.

It hasn't been announced that they're getting Pick 3 yet has it?

Trust me if North get Pick 3 there will be plenty of public push back from people.

they're going to lose their minds when that drops
Do they have any left to lose?

Just the standard AFL making up the rules as they go along.

Not yet. I think some are expecting it to happen though, and sharpening their pitchforks in readiness.

If Welsh is projected anywhere near (or above) the first rounder we have next year and is likely to get eaten in a bid, we can just trade it... next year. Like Gold Coast just did with the Dogs. There's no rush to get rid of it.
This is true..

But in doing so.. we end up simply kicking the can even further down the road.. at a time when we are approaching a finals/gf window and need talent injections immediately..

We cant wait till 2025.. a draftee we get in 2025 will take a good 2-3 years before they hit their straps..

We would be better off gambling this year even though it looks a weaker draft than next years and 2025.. well who knows the status on that one.. could be a weak draft too..

Tyler welsh potentially being a gun is bloody good but is also a double edged sword..

Youd rather we blow it on a bid next year would you?..

Tyler welsh will be top 10 next year.. potentially top 5..

He’s ranked top 3 at the moment.

And we wont have a top 10 pick… and if we do, its cause we yet again didnt make finals and there will be hell to pay for Nicksy, roo and the team..
your ridiculous trade suggestion was materially over paying for crap picks in a crap draft. thats the issue

Fxxk me..

Its a struggle around here at times..

Go back and read my comment you twit.

The whole point of it just whooshed straight over your head..

I think he learnt his lesson with the Gibbs deal in giving up way too much in a trade, because since then we have done well in pick swaps and not overpaying for players in a trade.
our picks swaps (GWS, Carlton and others) have been excellent and he has nailed the last 2 trade periods getting Dawson for a bargain and Rankine for appropriate value at the time (which will end up looking even better over time). The Gibbs debacle was a CEO directive so cant blame Reidy on this. I think he is an excellent operator overall

"Tom Doedee is no Lance Franklin"

Stupid Hawthorn shouldn't have won the premiership then... Doedee fully fit > McKay

Geelong really liked Sholl in his draft year. Happy to straight swap for pick 7. Will even pay his wage.

This is pretty much the reverse of the trade they did with GC last year no?

I mean, he did up his around the ground presence this year. Stood still is probably a better way to look at it instead of going backwards, especially as that run last year does have a whiff of over-performance to it. The 64.7% shots to goal accuracy stands out in particular, seeing Fog has typically been a 53-55% shot accuracy type of player with this year reverting back to that.

Digging through the numbers, it doesn't look like Fog saw any genuine drop in supply either. Some games, sure, but he had a similar volume of opportunities over the season.

That said, I can only really think of three lads who I'd consider underwhelming this year - Sloane, Berry and Butts.
definitely Sloane - nobody argues this one but the disparity with his 1st half B&F voting and 2nd half of year was very stark. Clearly shouldnt have been re-contracted though

Berry - very disappointing

Butts - did underwhelm overall but talk of injuries and then he did seem to find form again for a mth or so before season ending imjury late

To me, Fog right up there as well but I will move on, cheers

From Chris Davies. Cant disagree with some of it as the Northern Academies are getting out of hand. Wonder if our 2 FS have anything to do with it also..

PORT Adelaide head of football Chris Davies has called for a review of the AFL's father-son system, suggesting Victorian clubs have an unfair advantage.

Davies told Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio the Power "can't believe" a father's games threshold is 200 games in the SANFL compared to 100 for a Victorian club in order for their son to qualify as a father-son.

"The AFL have got some decisions to make with regard to what they want the draft to actually look like, whether it be issues about the northern academies, father-son situation," he said.

"To us, we still can't believe it's 100 games in the VFL and 200 games in the SANFL.

"I think it should (change). The AFL have got some real decisions to make right now.

"This year and the next few are going to be highly compromised." - Owen Leonard

I love how the majority of outrage on FA compo and those wanting compensation to be abolished come from supporters of big to biggish Victorian clubs or just Victorian journalists, and they only have these view points because they hardly lose free agents their team’s want to keep or get free agents moving to them due to the higher Victorian draftee percentage in the first place.

They also have a couple of F/Sons incoming, not sure they would jeopardise that to spite us.

Think the angle he's taking is that the SANFL game qualification should be reduced.
