Three primary observations:

1. The VFL side has no genuine inside mids. Sheldrick had 39 last week, but he’s not playing - and now with the exception of Stephens, our mids are either top-up players or skinny kids. Hardened VFL players just bully them off the pill.

2. Some of the young draftees aren’t showing a lot (yet). But you don’t get a lot of time - they’d want to start demonstrating some upside soon.

3. Losing becomes a habit.

The worrying thing is that we currently lack depth in all parts of the ground. Even Melican and Gould have been beaten today. Our forward line lacks targets except HHK & he’s no pack marking target.
Have you seen improvement in HHK this year or has he dropped off a touch ?

Stephens was pretty good, freed up from a run with role with the boundary ump.

Hickey improved on his last showing but still a bit away.

hHK played a lone hand and was ok.

McAndrew did well. I like how he tries to palm down.

Gould, Melican and Corey W were all a bit meh. Latter is not strong enough and can’t tackle.

Magr showed a bit but had a couple of bad moments. Vickery was ok. Edwards is funny in a Troy Luff kinda way. Konstanty seemed on very limited minutes And Owen is raw and cannot kick for goal to save himself.

Nick Shipley was again easily the best of the VFL listed players imo.

Good quarter by Stephens there.

Loving the crowd umpire abuse being caught on the commentary mics. Quality suburban footy.
Yeah sorry about that but when the ump sees a clear high tackle and refuses to pay it because it was for us it was a bit hard to reel it in.

Stephens 5 tackles at half time. Has had 3 total in his last 4 AFL games. Might have been one of the reasons he was given for being omitted.
Finished with 9 which was the most on the ground.

I thought Dyl was our best. Responded really well to his demotion. He was strong around ball and other than Shipley, received little help. I remember when drafted, KB mentioned that he was chosen not just for run but also to eventually play inside. At one point, he was standing next to Gould and he's actually not much smaller. He looks more solid than Rowie, Errol and Chad. Perhaps it's time we give him a run on ball.

This is my point.
Our current culture has become a losing one from bottom to top.

I think the Coaches were more scarred from the GF than the players. Horse and co imo have drawn the wrong conclusions and are coaching poorly.

Our injury list is not all that long but weighted more to talls. Yesterday our two tall forwards were HHK (a medium) and Owen (an 18 yo ruckman).

The only two specialist KPFs we have recruited in recent years are McDonald and Tommy McCartin who we quickly turned into a KPD. The absence of at least one specialist tall forward in the 2s affects how we structure up and practice I50 entries. Just a thought.
