I don’t want to lose him. But… I’m warming to either scenario tbh. 3x picks in the top 10 of the super draft (2x likely top 5), is club changing,

Granted it’ll put us back a couple years and mean we need another KPD.

Worst case he leaves:
Out: McKay
In: Curtin, Watson, Caddy

I reiterate, I want him to stay. But I don’t actually don’t believe it’s going to be end of the world.
It sets us back a long long way regardless. Irreplaceable is an adequate adjective to describe a developed key defender poised to fully break out

It’ll probably put us back a couple years, sure. But then it may not, things change quickly, as we’ve seen by bringing in Logue type trade/FA, or what De Koning has done in his early career as a KPD. If anyone can replicate what he has in the early stages of his career it’s Curtin.

I suppose finishing 17th, 18th, 18th, has made me question that one player can put us back so significantly, we are already as far back as we could be!

23 goals for Georgiades last year and 2 assists, people wanted to delist Turner when he kicked 17 and 10 assists from fewer games.

Is he the next Hunter Clark?

The only thing I care about is pumping up his contract at Port.

He'd want to play better than he did against Richmond, made some bad defensive errors, even Logue had to tell him, mate, when you are three deep you have to go the punch, you have to kill those contests. Cost us a goal.

Not sure how everyone else feels, but I think it's a bit weird to vote a guy into the leadership group who hasn't committed to the club. How can you possibly provide leadership and direction when you could be out the door in less than 12 months. Is it just me?

The players either don’t get that vibe from McKay or don’t think that far ahead.

I don't think players judge each other being mercenary / chasing profile opportunities with the same negativity as supporters.

He had an interrupted year last year but still managed to lead the AFL for intercept marks, the most sought after commodity. This was after 3 concussions, constant floggings and even a stint as a forward.

It would be negligent for his manager to advise him to sign now when he could potentially go from a $800k deal for 5 years to $1mil for 7 years with a strong start to the year and Logue providing support he never had, which will only increase his capacity to intercept?

If Harry got 7 years, you’d think Ben is worth the same?

Yes, this is high risk but unfortunately what his worth in the open market would attract?

I rate contested marking Coleman medallists as worth more than very good backmen. Not slight on Ben but Harry is worth a fair bit more.
