I wasn’t really talking about GWS.

Twomey emphatically said there will be no GC/Bowes type deal with Haynes this year
Yes, which is why I'm asking how its possible that we acquire Haynes.

If we need to spend $1m+ with no draft/trade benefit, I can think of many others we should be directing that money to first.

I mean, you have seen pantskyle so definitely an upgrade

Port still haven't announced Georgiades despite the supposed leak yesterday or the day before of a four year deal.

Hawthorn will have turned up the heat after missing out on Riccardi.

Except that his contract is something like $1.1m next year. :grimacing:

Its not like he's still AA quality. Surely if he's coming to Arden, there would be at least a second and third rounder coming too.

Given he's close to the end, its hard to understand why he'd smooth that out over multiple years if he didn't have to.
We just speed it over 2 years 550,000ayear

There isnt.

Twomey was pretty firm on it this week.

GWS aren’t in cap strife so have no reason to salary dump Haynes if he moves.

I did hear twom say that too however if they have offered HH the farm aswell they could be back in strife...

"Hi sir would you like to work an extra year for the same amount of money"

"Yeah why not"
And given he's turning 32 next year, its not like anyone would offer a 3 year contract to prolong his career.

I can't see how Haynes gets traded now unless its a salary dump with picks going too, or at least a player attached.

Otherwise, why wouldn't we have offered Barrass $1.1m?

So potentially Ratugolea Hawthorn bound? We wouldn't want to dilute the McKay compo. McKay going to Sydney. BZT to Port. Essendon won't want to dilute Parish compo. Barrass staying at WCE. Seems there's only really the Hawks left

We would have had to offer Barass 1.1m for five yrs... Haynes is only the one

Okay, fair point.
I'd still prefer we used it on paying Liam Henry overs to walk him to the PSD and convincing Caleb Graham to ask for a trade from GC, but in the absence of that...

Twomey seemed to think there’s a good chance pick purchasing will be coming in for this trade period.

He named us as one of the main beneficiaries of it does.
How would pick purchasing work?

Gws just signed HH for a mill a year and Riccardi $500 a year maybe they need to get Haynes of the books now

Getting Haynes off their books doesn’t necessarily have to be just about next year. Clearing it allows them space to front load other contracts and give space for the following years.

Shhh, the way the footy world thinks you never know.

I mean we got two top 5 picks for CornFrancis
We have too many pick 1s on our list to get compo
Losing McKay should void us for any assistance.

I love this time of year, when anyone who has even a vague connection to someone at the club pipes up to say we're interested in all in Sunbury, only for us to wind up with a one-legged butcher from truganina and a failed carpenter from the northern suburbs.

Of course, that's not to say I still don't enjoy this time of year and am praying some of these posts come true

I’ll give you a tip, it won’t work.

It will be manipulated like every other rule they bring in, then they’ll create more rules to try and fix it.
I’d like to be on the end it positively for once though
