Zac Fisher getting a 5 year deal to do what? Keep Luke, Xerri and CCJ with some company?
Hes going to be delisted ffs

Why are we giving C-Graders long term deals.

Im hoping this is a test by Clarko and Viney and Rawlings is having his contract ripped up.

Five years is quite long, but he's a better kick than anyone in our current backline aside from Sheezel, and he'd be one of the fastest too.

He's not getting delisted, he's contracted until the end of 2025. I can see us adding a few more years to get him out similar to the Stevo deal.

I have no confidence that we'll find 44 players better than Fisher during the upcoming five-year period. Kayne Turner has been on our list for a decade. If a five-year deal is what it takes, then I'm okay with it.

I didn't watch the last couple Carlton games, but geez Fisher looks like he's in a rich vein of form based on the highlights.

Small sample size but difficult to see what people are complaining about. All I saw was a player that can run fast / all game and hit targets by hand & foot. The very things we complain 3/4 of our list can't do. I'd be happy to watch that for the next 5 years.

Seven’s Mitch Cleary believes Sydney is the likely landing spot for North Melbourne free agent Ben McKay.

The 25-year-old has played 70 games for the Kangaroos since making his debut for the club in 2017 and enters restricted free agency this off-season.

McKay has been linked to the Swans, as well as Hawthorn and Essendon, and Cleary thinks he’s set to leave Arden Street.

After Sydney missed out on West Coast’s Tom Barrass, Cleary believes they’re well set to pounce on McKay.

“Well, it's not at North Melbourne,” Cleary said on SEN Breakfast in response to where he thinks McKay’s future lies.

“I think Sydney is well and truly in the mix now that Tom Barrass is staying.

“The Swans are all in. John Longmire is keen to use that salary cap space after 'Buddy' (Lance Franklin) and go and target (players).

“They think this group is in the (contending range) now.

“Port Adelaide's long been into him (McKay), but I think Esava Ratugolea is more likely to end up there.”

If McKay accepts an offer worth more than $750,000 a year to leave North Melbourne, Cleary doesn’t expect the Roos to stand in his way given the deal would trigger first-round compensation.

With the Roos currently holding pick one, Cleary thinks that compensation pick could land them the top two selections in the 2023 Draft.

“All North Melbourne needs now is for this deal to be $750-$800,000 over the life of it per season,” Cleary explained.

“Then they can net that first-round compensation pick, which looks like being pick two.

“This has the whiskers of the Joe Daniher deal (from Essendon to Brisbane) on it.

“That deal was around $800,000 over three years and then a couple of seasons in he extended on less money.

“I'm just keen to see the terms of the contract and also the money that comes with his likely departure from Arden Street.”

While North Melbourne’s list managers may be thinking differently, coach Alastair Clarkson says he will be fighting for McKay to remain at the club beyond this season.

A very educated left foot, imo

I'll have Sam Menongola on a 12 month deal - he's the shiels model - and will do well to provide some leadership, composure and on field grunt. Can play 13-14 games and help the VFL boys/draft kids. Could so SO much worse. I'd rather him than turner, howe and spicer plodding along.
Agree; if the argument is for a big bodied mid to help the younger blokes, Menongola (if fit) is a massive upgrade on Howe

Don't get the angst over Fisher. Sure a five year deal is a long term but we also have to spend the cap if McKay goes as well and we're realistically only going to get targets who want opportunity and/or long term security who are most likely B or C graders at the draft capital of 3rd and 4th rounders we want to spend. Has pace and can run out games and ht targets. A player that can give us 4-5 years whilst the young kids drafted develop at VFL level.

If people here had it their way re long term contracts, then Corr would be likely OOC. Thank god we aren’t dealing with that right now

Great tank too so can play outside. Basically what we wanted Howe to be.
I know people tear their hair out at some of his clangers, but Howe has been worth the 1 year (and let's be clear, as a rookie, who cost nothing in draft capital). He's been a very solid contributor at VFL level (we're playing a wild card final this week, unimaginable 2 years ago), and when Clarko came back, his strategy has been pretty clear - no more floggings. Hence the likes of Howe, Greenwood and Turner have been playing - incomplete footballers, but mature bodies who can stick a tackle. Certainly time to move on, but Howe has served a purpose, and deserves more credit than he's got on here

Zac Fisher could sign a deal of up to five seasons at North Melbourne as the Blues prepare to haggle on an upcoming trade.
Fisher has been in slashing form after being recast as a Blues defender in the past three weeks and still has two seasons on his current contract on a good deal of between $400,000-$500,000.

It means the Roos would have to offer him a long-term deal to twist his arm to move given he will be leaving for opportunities but not on-field success.

Good to know the crystal ball can see half a decade into the future.

If we're not looking at finals and potentially top 4 in 5 years time we are well and truly ****ed.

So way back in 2020
