What a ******* joke.
The magic pudding - all their players take way less for the joy of being there, yet when they retire/leave, huge amounts of salary cap space are suddenly free.

Have wondered if there's an inexact way you could review AFL ins/outs each year to expose oddities.

Something like who has disproportionate Supercoach net changes each year or something.

For the 2015-20 Geelong seemed to lose VFL players each year only to fit another 2 highly FAs each time. There must be some calculation that shows the "high strangeness" in lieu of public salaries.

Ive got no doubt the first set of books is clean as a whistle, all the players will be signed up for a nominal fee.

You'd think one of the AFL accredited media, and there's enough of them, would have the time and inclination to run at least cursory look into the phenomenon that is the Geelong salary cap?

No?

Is he? He definitely doesn’t show it in the games I’ve watched him play this year. Often looks gassed with hands on hips.

I’m pretty sure he is a fair way behind the top group of runners (Anderson, Miller, Ellis, Sharp & Weller) at the Suns.
Yeah hollands either is gassed or slow - don’t know why so many were interested in him.
Doesn’t look elite at anything

Strong Melbourne Storm books and ‘the books’ vibes.

Strong Melbourne Storm books and ‘the books’ vibes.

I'm biased by Storm were at least trying to retain a squad they built themselves.

Geelong brazenly run top 4 each year yet somehow poach the best player from another list every couple of years while losing nobody they want to keep (except for Kelly).

That's before we even start on the salary dump..

Dear diary
But of all things coming home from a holiday is undoubtedly the most damned. Never was there aimlessness, such depression. Can’t read, write or think. There’s no climax here. Comfort yes: but the coffee’s not so good as I expected. And my brain is extinct – literally hasn’t the power to lift a pen. What one must do is to set it – my machine I mean – in the rails and give it a push… It occurs to me that this state, my depressed state, is the state in which most people usually are.
Stop it you're scaring me.

We all know the AFL is a corrupt joke but the salary cap malarkey definitely takes the cake.

I firmly believe the only reason Collingwood had to get rid of players was due to the racism saga and the AFL teaching them a lesson. Before that they were throwing big money at all of their best players. Richmond to keep dusty. Geelong in recent years. They're doing their best at Carlton...but...it's Carlton. Sydney and GWS have always had an endless supply. It's laughable. Prop the franchises up and keep the big clubs towards the top.

There desperately needs to be an independent body brought in to keep on top of each team's salary cap. A Financial Fair Play that actually police's AFL teams. I know it's a pipe dream because even if there were 5 whistle-blowers the AFL would just slap those teams and go back to doing what it does best.

I'd love to take a gander at the books. Be some absolute doozies in there I bet.

Hawkins is on minimum wage so Darcy fit in the cap 😂

My personal favourite is 2020 when a grand finalist adds another club's recent 2x B&F, another club's leading goalkicker and beats out a rival (Melbourne) for a 3x premiership FA while losing some older guys to retirement plus a bunch of shitmen.

I just looked at the 10 remaining games of the season and in my view, only three are not winnable (the Dogs, Geelong in Geelong and go'dees). Not saying we win the others, although there is a chance if things go our way.

We absolutely MUST FIND A WAY to win 2-3 to give the group some self belief, and show the competition the progression of the young midfield. It will go a long way to helping retain TT and maybe McKay (and others like Powell), while also helping other players consider North as a viable destination going forward.

Get it done rats.

Offer Briggs whatever he wants.

He’s a more mobile Sean Darcy, but without the injury issues.

Crom is unwinnable. They are brilliant there. Oh, and they have a ton of damaging small/medium forwards, our kryptonite
