Unless they bundled it up and traded for the number 1 pick.
Gold Coast have an opportunity to do the following:Correct. But they could use it to split the pick and/or trade it for a future pick in a multi club trade.
That’s the gamble isn’t it? If we traded next years 1st and it turns out to be pick 8-10, the trade looks bloody good for us. Add King + Watson or Duursma to our forward line along with continued development of our current list…. I think we could push close to a finals birth. If it's not going to be used this year, why would you wait to use it next year? Ben King will be out of contract as well next year, so he'll have even less trade value.
If they have pick 1... they can draft Reid, and get Walter still as an academy player...Jed Walter is better then Reid
I'm sure Hawthorn's list management would absolutely jump at King if he's available for pick 3 or a future first - King is proven quality (and even then, still developing) no one you draft is guaranteed to be better than him, and could equally be the next Dowler...
One in the hand and all that...
The box! The box!!!40+ goal a year proven mobile key forward to partner with Lewis
Or
Dew is in a Hawks polo by November I've been saing thisKing really like Dew, bought into a culture that might not be there with a new coach. With Newman potentially out, a fortunate son might be returning home?
Please read my post a few minutes ago. Picks can be traded more than once. Having 3 and 4 allows them to trade for pick 1 and get ahead of the bid. List managers think many many steps ahead. The main sticking point here that seems to keep getting missed is that Gold Coast don’t want a first round pick this year as it will get sucked up by their academy selections. Hence why they are open to trading their first round pick this year.
They wouldn’t want Hawks first round pick this year either for the same reason.
Could be a good move for Hawks to trade a future first round pick + likely other assets to secure King.
That would mean we keep this years first round pick.
Picking up King and Watson/ or Duursma would be a seriously good outcome for us.
That’s not even taking into consideration of the potential rumours of Gresham, Henry, Ryan, GWS salary dump etc.

Noone ever takes the playerThe box! The box!!!
What a different game it is now from growing up and in many respects worse. Dunstall Lockett Ablett we’re usually 40 goals forwards by round 7!You never know...It could be a 40+ goal a year key forward in there.
Newman to Richmond, Dew to Hawks?Dew is in a Hawks polo by November I've been saing this
Noone ever takes the player
I like it, make it happen…. Dew to Hawthorn under Mitchell.Newman to Richmond, Dew to Hawks?
I’d very much hope that’s not what the suns would ask for King. Or that we’d pay that.I think my ideal case at this point to get King + keep our first:
GWS trade us future first + Haynes for salary dump
We trade Hawks F1 + GWS F1 + 29~ for King.
Given pick 5 will definitely be absorbed in a Walter bid coming earlier in the draft, I wonder if there's something we can do to sweeten the deal to land us that pick as well- I'm not sure what it'd take but I think it'd be very worth-while us looking at what players/what we can contribute to make it happen!
CJ and a F1.Two scenarios I think we would consider:
Pick 3 alone. GC can use it to trade up and we get a quality 40+ goal forward that is young enough to grow with our group.
Future First + Pick 29. Gives Gold Coast points this year and a potential top 5 pick next year. More appealing for us.
The problem is I think they'd be asking for two firsts.
CJ won’t agree to be traded and we don’t want to trade him anyway.CJ and a F1.
