I think the Hawks should trade their F1 for either of the Giants or Cats first pick this year. Cats have said it's up for grabs.

3&6 or 3&7 as it stands now might be enough to get Reid. If not two top ten picks this year plus McCabe would be a very good draft for the Hawks.

Maybe F2 for GWS first pick and us taking Haynes off them 100%

Sorry I wasn't referring to your post when I posted tongue in cheek, I was making a light hearted point that some of the members were in fact comfortable in offering two first round picks and a player for pick one.

I love MM and Sammy’s work don’t you worry about that ……. and I joined as a member just before the merger to have a say and joined big footy when we were at the bottom of the scraps early 2000. Once again I find our supporter base has managed to convince ourselves of something in this thread based on no info that's actually been shared.

Ward/Macdonald/Mackenzie going to West Coast along with Brockman and two first rounders in exchange for pick 1.

Is that because we have like, too much talent on our list or something? Doesn't make sense.

Some players are near irreplaceable: M Lewis, J Newcomb, W Day, J Sicily and maybe Weddle. These guys are off limits.
Some players have minimal trade value: most of whom played a majority of time at Box Hill. These guys will not help a trade.
If the Hawks make a play for pick 1 and an extra player is needed in excess of pick 3(5), F1 and Brockman, that player will have to come from the current Hawks best 22. Meaning no matter who that player is, there will be unhappy Hawks supporters.
For me I’d want WC‘s 1 (Reid) and their F2 (at best pick 21) in the deal to address the loss of the “extra player”. The F2 could be used to get back into the 2023 draft after the McCabe bid.

Scenarios in no particular order: Extra player and a likely available 2023 2nd round pick as cover.

• Josh Ward out, Harvey Johnston in: Ht: 184cm, Wt: 76kg, Nippy mid / HF with a great step and neat skills.
• James Worpel out, George Stevens in: Ht: 189cm. Wt: 84kg. Inside Bull with an accurate right foot.
• Connor McDonald out, Logan Morris in: Ht: 192cm. Wt: 90kg. A 3rd tall with some speed and clunks marks.
• CJ out, we have cover for the HB role and so best available in. Maybe Archer Reid.

I do not want to lose any of our current best 22 players but I’m a fan of all of the replacement players mentioned above and of course Harley Reid.

I could deal with:
Out: Pick 3(5), F1, Brockman and Player X (above)
In: Harley Reid, Player Y (above), McCabe and none /one /or both of TJ and Dear.

Anything less and I’d walk away.

While not agreeing that the Cats would trade their pick 8 (11) this year, having only late picks is not a death sentence for a recruiting team. Consider:
In 2016 the Hawks had 2 ND picks: H Morrison at 74 and M Lewis at 76. Gold Star ️
In 2017 the Hawks had 2 ND picks: J Worpel at 45 and D Moore at 67. Another Gold Star ️


If they think they have 1 or 2 players that no-one else know about (like a Tom Stewart or Jai Newcomb) then trading back makes sense.

Personally, I don't ever recall Hawthorn making such a big play for a star player, let alone an unproven draftee.

It definitely fits the mould of a godfather offer but at the current list state of Hawthorn, surely they'd be better off reserving their ammo for at least this year and next year's drafts, then going all in on trades/ FA's to charge up the ladder?

I'm sure it's just another media beat up but would any supporters actually be happy with this trade? I'd think not.

One concept I like is to draft players now to let them develop and then go hard at the free agents next year or the year after. The idea being to have all of the pieces of the plan come together at the same time.
