Just need Gresham to be our De Goey or Phillipou to become a star at least.
If we are up and about we have a chance at players from interstate eg Crouch but you're right we are more in need of our current players stepping up to get us there.

Melbourne were able to attract some good interstate talent once they were an attractive destination, no reason we can't do the same.

Having only last night learned that TDK has only about 30 games under his belt I'm all for it. This idiotic BS about only 11 goals to date is typical negativity fron Saints supporters. 30 games for a young ruck he's bloody unbelievable.

What does TDK provide that makes him more desirable than others? We desparately need another key forward and he is not that, nor is Marshall for that matter. He is 23 yo and is not even Carltons best ruckman I dont see the attraction.

I interpret the "year of exploration" not as a get out clause for being competitive but for understanding that this first year, we may have trouble competing at the highest level at the end of the h&a.

We know already that RTB has pushed these boys harder than they've ever been pushed at St Kilda. In this year, we'll see which ones respond by getting themselves to another level and elevating the team around them, and which crumble or stagnate. We may be surprised or disappointed at who's on the trade table in October but I don't have any doubt in the judgement of our coaches - if they are open to a player being traded it's because they've assessed he won't work in our system, no matter what his skill level or achievement and I am fine with that.

I expect to be pushing for finals all season despite injuries and new coaches, and if we miss, there will be consequences on the team, but if Ratten and Gags have already been booted out, I'm not sure spilling the board would really achieve much except making a statement.

I'm a bit bemused by our assistants being described as "elite" though - Lenny, Boris and Harves were certainly elite players in their day, but as assistant coaches I'd say their achievements are more vague. Having said that, I'm stoked that they've at our club and I trust them to action what Ross wants effectively - they know exactly what he expects, which is important.

Im cautiously open-minded with Lethlean being given the CEO reins, but he needs to start performing because he wasn't much chop as a footy boss. I like how pro-active he was but there needs to be results too.

Last year, we won a few games with individual performances from Ryder, Higgins, King, Battle, Steele etc despite a garbage system.

Putting an effective system in place takes time, and this is the year we get to watch the machine get built, battle-hardened, forged in fire. This is the last year that some players get to prove they have a place in our future, no excuses, no sacred lambs. That's what we brought Ross back for, those players know it too and we should expect the ones that take the field to want to die on the field, because they will definitely prefer that to facing up to RTB and Co after the game if they didn't push themselves all the way.

I can't bloody wait to tell you the truth. No more bullshit. THIS is Saints Footy; you can't do it, you get the **** out.

Very choice words El Presidente

“I have seen first-hand the excellent job that Ross Lyon and his coaching panel have done to establish a program for the players that empowers role clarity, prioritises game plan education, and pursues daily excellence through 100 per cent effort in everything we do as a club.

As Ross has emphasised to our players, results are simply feedback. Sustainable positive outcomes only ever come from getting the process and fundamentals right and there is a deep shared commitment across the club to doing this. We are confident this will translate on-field sooner rather than later.”

Something I found interesting in Sinclair's interview on AFL daily was he said players all have to bring notebooks to meetings and take notes and will be asked questions on the game plan which has been a big change from last year.

Idiotic… ok

Yes he’s played 30 games, because he hasn’t been good enough to hold his spot.

He’s almost 24 now, not 19. I understand it’s still quite young for a ruck but I used Marshall as an example earlier. He came second (and probably should have won) a best and fairest at the same age after being a rookie pick.

Maybe he’s going to be a late bloomer, but it would be a big risk to give up a lot of capital for him, especially as he hasn’t shown a lot forward.

Only just learning that a bloke you want us to recruit has just played 30 games and calling others idiotic for having a differing opinion is a little ironic.

I've seen him play enough to think you're probably being harsh but agree on what he'd cost. I really hate spending big on rucks. Elliott Himmelberg or even Harry would be better. Amartey is a nice ruck forward option.

If he was going to cost pick 25 I’m all for it. But if he’s going to cost a mint we’d be better off focusing on bringing in a key forward

I may have been a bit happy when l wrote that...

Are we pinning our hopes on a supplement player we picked up a few weeks back and a player that was taken late in the draft that a club could have had for free and chose not to take?

I hope not
Not really tbh, but l think people need to wrap their heads around King being only 22yo and he being the centerpiece of our build. Membrey and Hayes are probably consigned to being place holders now and will not be in our 22 when we next challenge. The idea that we should want or need to acquire another mature and expensive KPF right now is a bit silly.

Doesn't have to be mature or expensive. Someone young would be ideal and there may well be a few looking for opportunities at the end of the year that won't cost an arm and a leg.

We were into Hayden McLean weren't we?

If he's in and out of the Swans 22 again I'd be asking the question.

Takes a nice mark. Straight shot for goal. Handy in the ruck and follows up at ground level.

He's not an elite, game breaking, gun KPF but he's a perfectly acceptable 3rd tall alongside King + Membrey/Sharman/Hayes.

This talk of trading Gresham is bonkers, just put him back into the forward line & let him do his amazing skill, in kicking exciting goals.
Just keep in contact with Callaghan, B.King, Rosee & Sheezel, all are either local, or have some interest in the Saints.

No chance of ever landing either of Sheezel or Rozee I'd say.

King probably still the most likely, but probably not until he's a free agent

Bring Callaghan home
It's time to stop ogling the neighbours wife and start finding our own talent. Extracting a player costs extra cash and picks. It's efficient if you target a specific need and go and grab a ready made but you still need to do the hard work at the draft.

For whatever reason we think we need to let Gresham, Nas and Clark walk and swap them for a big full back and partially developed ruckman. It looks like a very dull and stodgy set up but they seem to think that's the way to go.
