Hopefully you mean the geelong setup. Melbourne's forward line is as bad as ours despite having a gun midfield feeding them the ball.

On Pixel 6 Pro using BigFooty.com mobile app

It's dysfunctional this year but their premiership year it had so many avenues to goal. Brown and McDonald turning to shit and Jackson leaving has hurt them and Kosi Pickett has dropped right away on top of Bobblehead getting hurt. Oliver injured is probably their biggest issue still.

Geelong is a good example too. They have so many options to score through and so many different types.

You can’t get them out without the two firsts routine which just feeds them and hinders us.

If you could get one of Wardlaw or Sheezel it's probably a good buy with 2 firsts if we think we are bottom half of the 8 next year. You are getting close to guaranteed gun with a couple of picks around 10 to 14 and you usually get a second rounder back. Their second rounder wouldn't be far off our first.

I doubt Port are disappointed with Honrny Francis. Sometimes you have to throw your hat in the ring.

It really depends on the details gringo, how high are the firsts and the second coming back. I might add when you need 6 player spending two first rounders on 1 player is just crazy Imo. Now if you’re 1 or 2 off a genuine flag tilt it’s a bargain, surely though for us that just doesn’t make sense.

We have screwed up the really high picks we had and have muddled around in the middle of the pack. That’s very frustrating and futile, Imo we need to drop back to go forward for a couple of years and or trade out senior players with value. 1 middling pick a year just isn’t going to get us into contention and we have the spectre of Tassie and even more compromised drafts. I have reached the point where I can’t see we have much to loose because without a different strategy we’ll be doing this 9 wins or near enough until we luck out or fall over.

IMO draft this year falls off a cliff after the top 12 and 3 of those are Gold Coast Academy and also includes Sanders who we are all being conditioned by the AFL media to accept is going to North in a scam NGA pre listing compensation for being ordinary. Compared to last years crop that top 12 are are no where near the top 12 from last year IMO.

Elite Talent
Reid
Walter (GC Academy)

Top end Mids
McKercher
Sanders (Possible NTH NGA Scam)
Rodgers (GC Academy)

Top tier Defenders
Curtin
O’Sullivan

Talented Forwards
Watson
Dursma
Caddy

Rucks
Ethan Read (GC Academy)

Skillful Outside Runner
Wilson

The talent issue was most evident in the Vic Metro team where the preferred midfield was almost all Bottom Agers eligible for next years draft Levi Ashcroft, Jagga Smith and Smillie. When has that ever happened before. SA and WA were awful and the Allies were by far the best team but 70% of them are tied to Northern Academy’s and unavailable in the draft.

Harley Reid is a possible generational talent that could win a team a premiership and Walter looks the best Key Forward for years so the real pointy end is outstanding but the rest is below par.

Our real need is to bolster the midfield however McKercher and Sanders are the only genuine midfielders in the open pool both look very good but both likely gone before our pick. Curtin played a bit as a mid but looks like a Defender long term. Dursma and Wilson have both played mid but will be more outside players at AFL HB Wing HF types, Caddy and Watson can play mid but are better up forward and O’Sullivan who I really rate is going to be a fantastic key back.

Given we miss the eight and finish somewhere between 12th to 10th I think we will be picking one of O’Sullivan, Dursma, Caddy or Wilson with an outside chance Watson falls because of his height.

Most years there are a bunch of players projected to go in the teens twenty’s and even thirties that I really rate but so far I am struggling to get excited about anyone outside that top 12. No doubt there will be a handful maybe more who prove me wrong just gotta hope that some of them end up as Saints.

Hopefully there are some late bolters that add to the pool, so far though it has mostly been sliders players like Archer Reid, Moir, Philactides, Lorenz, Tholstrup all started the year as top ten or first round talents that have slid. Moir in particular looked spectacular last year but has dropped like a stone.

All of this is just my very amateur opinion so genuinely interested if anyone has any favourites in this crop I should pay more attention to.

If we can’t get a mid without reacting, I’d love O’Sullivan.

Great wrap by the way. I’m keen on Simpson if he slides.

Wish we could watch the Coates league

This draft doesn't look great. Like u said throw a blanket over the rest after that 12 onwards range.

If Sanders is off the board and Norf get 3 for McKay and you finish 9th or 10th you are getting fingered. We would have to lose every game to get a look at O’Sullivan. Win one game will see us 12th or 13th. Win 2 games and we sit around 8th I reckon.

Dont think SOS goes for Caddy. Likely Darcy Wilson Outside Mid or Ollie Murphy Key Defender, both needs too if we are in that pick range.

WC 18th 1. Reid

GC 2. Walter (Academy)

NM 17th 3. McKercher

NM 4. Curtain (Compo pick)

HAW 16th 5. Watson

MEL 15th 6. Duursma (Freo 1st round pick)

GC 14th 7. Read (Academy/1st Pick)

SYD 13th 8. O'Sullivan......198cm Key Defender, interceptor

STK 12th 9. Wilson....Fast Mid/Outside wingman

GC 10. Rogers (Academy/Points)

ADE 11th 11. Caddy........192cm 91kg leading Forward

GWS 10th 12.Murphy........200cm Tall Defender, skinny but athletic and mobile. Shut down Jed Walter and was Metros MVP. (Ricmonds 1st)

If we can't trade earlier into the draft and get Sanders ( the only thing that might save him is how obvious the scam is ), we might as well go with the flow and get a ruck.
Heath is probably showing enough now that we don't need to keep Campbell for insurance.

If we can't get Sanders, then maybe we look at mids players not getting a run elsewhere.
Stephens Swans
Flanders GCS
Fin McRae Coll
Hewitt GCS.
Matheson Lions
Liam Henry Freo
Many more...we need at least 2-3 more mids to try next year.
Hotton and Owens are 2...2 more would be nice.

Here's hoping

I agree as far as class midfielders are concerned this years draft is not as strong as last. I think if we are serious about chasing Flanders we might have to give up our 1st round pick in any event. It was interesting that Sandringham had Harvey Johnston play for them today, he is the Dragons Captain and plays midfield for them. He didnt excel at the championships but he is thought to be a 2nd round option. Following is an excerpt from Inner Sanctum -

"Maybe the kid with the best step in the league, Harvey Johnston’s ability to zig-zag through traffic is eye-catching. His speed, cleanliness, and agility make him a catalyst in transition and dangerous in space. Not only does Johnston have arguably the best-left foot at the Dragons, but he’s also more than handy on his right shoe. Johnston thrives off rhythm and once he starts going, he becomes a difficult target to chase down."

I'm not against trading for young elite talent. You don't spend first round picks on Hill types unless it's the only missing piece to your flag puzzle.

I'd see if Goldy need some more cap relief and see if we can do a SOS special on Flanders, Hollands and Sharp types and we'll take some of their fillers like Rory Atkins and give them a first and third round pick for the whole lot. Gets them capital for their academy kids and clears their books a bit.

Worse case they are upgrades on our crap tail end.

That's gazing at your belly button.
While you trade two picks for 1 good player, the other team will end up with 2 good players.

We are better, but they are "more better".
