My personal opinion is that Max Heath will be a very high level AFL ruck. The problem is that it probably won’t be next season. I think another big pre season working on his aerobic capacity and in the gym will make a huge difference. The kid is 205/105 now, he’s going to be a monster once he’s fully developed.
Our biggest issue is Marshall being a great follower but a poor ruckman. He also has never shown an ability to play forward.
I can see the thinking behind Goldstein, just don’t think he’s the right fit. If we do believe Heath will make it I’d rather just give Campbell another season. The other issue is that whoever is our second mature ruck we must give Heath the opportunity to be number one ruck at Sandringham

I don't think Marshall is even a "poor" ruck just not the best.
He was fifth in the AFL for hitouts this year, 7th for hitouts to advantage.

He's very average at ruck craft though. I thought Briggs has some of Marshall's ability to take the ball himself but also had better tap work. His taps seem to hit their mids better. Gawn for example force feeds his mids. Marshall's go towards our mids but they have no real power or direction.

I think it's fair to say that Marshall is an elite ruck when judged by his own stats, but has very poor chemistry with our midfielders. I don't know how they assess how a hitout is "too advantage" but I would hazard a guess that the quality of Marshall's HTAs are on the very poor end of the scale.

It creates a bit of a dilemma because he is clearly a very good ruck and can only be picked in that position, but at the same time, he doesn't bring the best out of midfield.

Is Dylan Stephens worth a look?

mid that has outside speed and was touted as a good kick in his draft year

I'd have a look

Was a bit of a barometer for the Swans in 2022.

I don’t see why we would need Henry v similar player to Bradley Hill and nothing frustrates me more watching Hill. Club is paying overs to trade for another spineless spook scared of his own shadow
What an absolute dickhead you are.

He's not really looked like much at AFL level but it really depends on what role he was playing. Haven't seen much in him.

I wonder how much is due to Marshall and much due to our system at clearances. It’s been noticeable through the year and definitely in the final that other teams seem to clear the ball with one or two quick handballs that end end up with a guy in space who can then pass to a leading forward. We just seem to grab it and kick it blindly, whether it’s Marshall, Gresham, Crouch or Steele.
Its partly on the players but has to be partly on the midfield/stoppage coach.

I'm going to start a sen rumour about the saints and trade. Use my personal phone and my work phone and see if they run with it.
Anyone got an interesting one they think would get a nibble?
Might run with nwm to Adelaide in straight swap for Rachelle

Too obvious, make it they were on Nas, but now he is signed are right into and unsigned Phillipou, Saints asking for two firsts and a second.

The one thing with Goldstein would be that he would be a fantastic mentor for both Heath and Marshall.
Yes I said Marshall. Roh is great around the ground, but his rucking and clearance craft leaves a lot to be desired.
Heath is a prospect but raw as still. Got better during the year but at preseason training saw Owens constantly outbody and out ruck him.
Goldstein may be looking for a coaching gig after footy, so his knowledge for Max and Roh would be great, while a ready made replacement for Roh if he goes down.
Can see real.upside to it.

Makes sense for a year if it fast tracks Heath because we need him to be ready sooner rather than later.

Goldstein can also fill a vacuum if Marshall is injured. He is much better than Campbell. Use Goldstein as both a player and part time coach.

We're getting pick 1 and sending it to Adelaide for Rachelle and their 2024 1st.
I was talking with an insider at the Spearmint Flamingo.
