Salary dumps should only be cleared if the club taking on the player takes on the same terms the player was meant to be on.

I assume Geelong has taken Bowes huge contract and spread it over a few more years. It’s ludicrous that a club which has been in contention for 2 decades can snag a top 10 pick with creative bookkeeping. Essentially draft tampering AFAIAC.

If Shiel is due 1 mil next year then we shouldn’t be able to make it 1.2 for 2 years.

16 other clubs could have done what Geelong did last year.
They chose not to.
The sin wasn’t changing the contract, the sin was excluding most of the clubs (14 from 17) from participating. Suns should have made it more widely known.

Yeah Bowes two year GC deal became a 4 year deal at Geelong. At least Bowes was pretty bad for them this year.

It’s a good idea but what’s the pick going back to the bombers? I wouldn’t give them anything more than a 3rd round.
I don’t mind getting Shiel either, we would have creamed ourselves if we’d gotten him back when Essendon did. Maybe the Bombers destroyed his will to play football like the NFL did to Johnny Manziell.

CC's mate.

And just to clarify as I'm getting extremely angry! Furious!

1) Essendon will NOT part with pick 13.
2) Shiel is NOT the type of midfielder we need to be targeting
3) We would win the trade if Gresham left for aforementioned CC's.

Now that we have a clear understanding of what the details are, let's carry on without the insane ramblings about the AFL giving us pick 13 (LOL as if they'd give us anything, there's a conspiracy against St.Kilda from the top down), and Dylan Shiel just being steak knives (or a "salary dump" LOL whatever that means) in a deal for pick 13...which Essendon DO NOT have!
Ok, so what do we have to give up to get pick 13 from the AFL (apart from our dignity). I mean are they looking for mids or can we give them back Lethers?

Lol Johnny 'Football' did that to himself...

If anything he needed the NFL to get around him and provide him even more support.

Gresham, Lethers could sweeten the deal as steak knives

Except for a couple of differences:

Brad requested to leave, and iirc nominated us

Adelaide didn't incentivise us to trigger a higher band of compensation, just made threats about matching
Plus they actually did not want to match, as in to have him still play with them.

Matching only works really if you actually are ok to retain the player.

What a Midfield for
Season 2024
Dylan Shiel 31
Brad Crouch 30
Seb Ross 30
Jack Sinclair 29
Jack Steele 28
Zak Jones 28

If we end up with pick 12 & 13 could we use one of those picks and a future 1st pick to entice north or west coast or gold coast to part with their top 5 picks guaranting us a top midfielder .
North need to replace McKay. Howard and 13 plus steak knives for 3.

I'm hoping he can emulate some of his GWS form. Lets not forget who coached him at the Giants when he made All-Australian.

Hawthorn are the interesting party here.

They have been second choice for everyone. Could they make a play for either Gresham or Howard.

They have oodles of cap space.
Aren't they getting McKay ?

16 other clubs could not have done it. Pick 7 only came with Jack Bowes and Geelong had enticed him to come play for them.
I'm sure 16 other clubs tried

Well, no.

About 5-8 clubs enquired about him, including us, but in the end Bowes chose Cats after several meetings with other clubs too. There are also clubs that either could not afford the Bowes contract or just were not interested.
