I don't know what your feelings were for this year's draft but at the end of the U18's 2023 season I certainly didn't have the feel for the absolute depth this draft appears to have. My feel after watching the U17's Futures Grand Final day was the 1st round certainly looked quality but so many not seriously on the radar have elevated this year, take Alixzander Tauru and Alex Dodson virtual unknowns before the season started and there's plenty of others. I don't think Dodson even played footy last year, certainly not in the U18's comp.
2023 mcg futures game - It was the best standard futures game since the concept has been running

2023 futures was also so much better than this years version

The clubs knew this and were expecting a deep draft but I think there’s a few Wa kids that might have surprised them , it was always a big year for metro and country

It prob got cancelled out as SA was supposed to produce alot given the U16s success 2 years ago but it was WA that surpassed them in end

I mean, that’s not Nicks’ job. Now it’s still bullshit that he played Smith so much, as he should’ve been dropped much earlier than he was, but I don’t think that he had his contract in mind

The trouble is Nicks is a moron, Smith was in shocking form at the start of the season yet Nicks picked him week after week.

Nicks would have known Smiths trigger and yet the moron kept picking him until he reached the trigger, he then finally dropped Smith. Mind boggling stupid, how anyone can defend Nicks is beyond me.

We should've had at least one extra spot to use in this draft.

It’s interesting because Wayne has never commented on this, I wonder why?

Damn it sounds like Port are trying to get in on the Richmond move up to 2. Gets them to 10.

Saint's deal is 7 + F1 for 2... and I got laughed out of the building for suggesting sliding our F1 to F2.

The difference is St Kilda would go from bracket 2 to bracket 1 by sending a F1. Thats good business, especially for a team that doesn't attract big names.

In your scenario Adelaide would go from Bracket 1 to slightly higher in Bracket 1. And it will cost us our single biggest trade chip in next years trade period. Hence, bad business!

It’s ultimately not Nicks’ decision as to whether Smith is on the list - his job is to select who he sees are the best 23 players each week (most of the time being wrong in doing so)

I think the more likely scenario is that he genuinely rated his presence in the side - which was still stupid

Is crows draft night/s as simple as

Select Draper with 4
Then match the Tyler Welsh bid with pick 64?
No it's much more complicated than that.

There are 850000 permutations that will end with us selecting Draper at pick 4.
And another 850000 permutations off the back of that that mean we select Welsh with pick 64.

Reid would’ve communicated to Nicks if he didn’t want Smith on the list, and should have - but because he clearly didn’t, Nicks kept playing him

Out of sight, out of mind and all that
Oh cmon, that’s some mental gymnastics going on there.

On one hand you’re saying Nicks picks the best team and now you’re saying if Reid told him he wouldn’t have.

Further you’re saying Reid clearly didn’t tell him, you’ve got no idea if that’s the case or not and if Nicks went with “nah I select the side and I’m picking my best team”, which is what you’ve said is Nicks basis for picking the team.

Nicks would have known full well about the trigger and chose to play an experienced player who was finished, got him to the trigger and then dropped him. This is 100% on him.

Let’s have a look at the Clurey comments, he said it was Hinkley who told him he wouldn’t get picked, has Nicks had the same conversation with Smith now? Bit hard to do after you’ve stupidly gone public and said Smith was a big part of the future.

Facts are besides Nicks cocky persona, he has poor judgement and there have been many examples of this, this is just another but it’s cost us a list spot and potentially a 10 year player.

What a load of crap so the coach is meant to know the contract status of every player on the list Gtfoh thats the list managers job fmd i read some crap on here but that takes the cake .Simple fact is should smith still be there probably not but he is end of story

I think Nicks wants Smith around 2025, even if just in the reserves. It's that simple.
