Everyone seems to lock in FOS for Carlton - if their recruiters are any good then they will pick either Draper or Smith because they need a speedy mid to round out their current group. Further, they are in a premiership window(!!) & therefore Draper would be high in their pecking order, due to him being the only top draftee who has proven his worth against men.

In this scenario imo Richmond should select Lalor & FOS. Tigers need mids & forwards & Lalor & FOS can play either role.
Smith got plenty of it playing vfl this year

About the only draftee option we haven't been aligned with in that's in our draft range is Josh Smillie. Personally I'd probably take him before Langford given I feel his midfield craft is better.
Agree

Also has a better athletic base that should allow his midfield game to translate well at AFL level

Though I still wouldn’t really consider him at 4

Funny because Bicks has Lalor 1 and 2 on his list
Nope, Lalor is my clear number 1 and has been all year long long before he was even spoken as a lock for the top 10 and now a chance to go pick 1.
Posted my thoughts a fortnight or so ago

Just my opinion.

I think I've finally settled o my top 10. Obviously Lombard and Ashcroft would have featured on the 3rd tier if available in the open draft.

1. Sam Lalor

2. Finn O'Sullivan
3. Sid Draper

4. Bo Allan
5. Jagga Smith

6. Josh Smillie
7. Harvey Langford
8.Tobie Travaglia
9. Aiixzander Tauru
10. Xavier Lindsay

If we hadn't used the pick on ANB I'd have taken Ollie Hannaford or Alex Dodson if either were still available

I made a post a while back on this and I think Carlton are playing the long game here to try and get Harley Reid in a few years time. FOS is a good mate and Reid is apparently on record stating he would like to play with FOS.
Noting one reason why Luko chose Port was because of his friendship with Rozee.

This is what I'm talking about with Josh Smillie....MIDFIELD CRAFT and IMO a better kick than Langford, I think a lot of draft watchers are seduced by Langford's long kicking but Smillie gets plenty of penetration too but far more precise over short or long options. Who can forget Smillie's 7 centre clearance game for VM at the Nationals.

FWIW on the main board Carlton, Norf and Tigers fans are often arguing that they will/should be taking Draper. Along with Lalor and FOS, they seem to be the 3 top picks. Not many people talking about Smith or Langford. So if that's accurate us worrying about taking Draper is a waste of time, and if so - I'd take Smith over Langford, just think he adds something different

They are also a little bit salty that we are happy to take one of the Vic kids with our pick, if Draper is not there.

I think both North and the Blues posters were hoping we would trade for a higher pick to secure Draper.

We get a quality kid at 4 - why bother upgrading
It's a pickle.

I just feel Sid Draper will be a Joel Selwood type and drag his club into being a powerhouse because of his ability and leadership - flow on effects of attracting others to play with him.

Not that Langford, Smith, FOS, Lalor won't be very good players, that's just the read I have on him.

I will be disappointed if we dont get Draper, but at the same time, I have my doubts all things equal that the Vic Clubs go for the SA kid over the local. Which makes any trade we make a complete waste of resources. Meaning it will likely cost us our 1st next year.

Yeah they can't seem to believe that we wouldnt give 4 + F1 for 2 and maybe a F2 coming back

I like Smillie, he's a beast of a man. Old school eyeball test works pretty well on him. Very nearly went for him in the BF Phantom instead of Smith but Smith probably suits us better for someone with zip around the stoppages.

There's a million reasons why luko chose Port but I don't think rozee was one
Yes there was probably multiple reasons, his friendship was one of them.

Lukosius on his friendship with Connor Rozee

“He was very excited (when I told him I was coming to Port Adelaide). He was great…he kind of was pushing for me to go to Port, but knew I had to make my own call for my own journey (so) he kept a bit of a distance. And then I told him on Brownlow night, and he was stoked and we had a couple of beers together. So it was great.

The U18 All Australian selectors forgot about it.
