Full season highlights for Jagga Smith, the most consistent performer in this years draft pool. He was a relentless accumulator of the footy no matter the opponent or the level he played at, and displayed some elite AFL level attributes along the way. He may not ultimately end up being taken at pick 1, but he's the most risk free of the elite prospects at the pointy end of the pool.

I don’t know if it’s the #7 or the Oakleigh Chargers uniform (or the haircut), but Smith’s movement on/around the ball and with the ball reminds me of Nick Daicos.

And West Coast have enabled this by gifting them pick 3? If so everyone at West Coast needs to be fired the second the trade request comes in.
They could have kept picked 3 and Picked FOS and it would help keep Reid but they ****ed around on the Barrass deal.

Yes there was probably multiple reasons, his friendship was one of them.

Lukosius on his friendship with Connor Rozee

“He was very excited (when I told him I was coming to Port Adelaide). He was great…he kind of was pushing for me to go to Port, but knew I had to make my own call for my own journey (so) he kept a bit of a distance. And then I told him on Brownlow night, and he was stoked and we had a couple of beers together. So it was great.

I know, I'm just more cynical given the pay packet and length of contract were extraordinary.

Daicos is a better kick IMO, I think the Butters comparison is pretty appropriate
Butters is a fair bit more dynamic and has more hurt factor than Jagga Smith IMO and has been right back to the U18's

I'm sure all the other guys are quality too (they're just names on a page to me) but I loved those Smith highlights

I liked the way he gathered awkward, misplaced handballs that placed him under pressure (a crucial skill if he's going to succeed here)

Also that while he was gathering the ball he had real awareness of what's around him. Could evade tackles whilst scanning for options. Seems to take care with possessions. Doesn't panic bomb (Nicks will hate him).

Can manoeuvre out of a tight spot. We haven't had a mid in that style before. A Sam Mitchell, capable of being creative even when there's high pressure/congestion.

If he's still there at Pick 4 Harps, you know what to do.

Wait... is his girlfriend the Melbourne Lord Mayor's daughter or anything...?

I know it’s only highlights but I struggle to see how him and Draper are in the same conversation.

I know Draper has better burst speed but Smith gets the ball and then gets to the outside, giving himself time and space again and again - amazingly agile, and has very clean and attacking disposal. What’s not to like?
I'm very happy with either but I'm still marginally leaning towards Draper. While he's not as clean as Jagga to me he has a frame better built for ball winning and bursting from the stoppage at AFL level. Jagga's light frame is causally related to his speed and zippiness: two of his best attributes. I'm curious how that is impacted when he needs to develop a bigger frame to compete in an AFL midfield. Butters and Daicos types can get away with it more because they're less reliant on pure ball-winning ability and more-so on their damage ball in hand. I don't want to sound like I'm bashing him though, Jagga and Draper are both guns and I'm happy with either.

Yeah he has better disposal and footy iq. Would be happy with Smith.

Draper has more pace and stronger. Overall more powerful. Think he is also more agile than smith (not by much). He's not Victorian which is also a plus.

I had such high hopes for Schoenberg when he first came into the side. I remember his first season he looked really good. He never went on with it though and actually went backwards from then. Not sure if it is to do with talent or just lack of commitment.

for a reasonably high draft pick mid he never did enough. Yeah 2021 he seemed to show promise but 2022 went backwards and then he got injured. But at 23 and not performing even at Sanfl level players have been delisted for less. Frankly, the Crows should just pay him out.

Nor the need for a small forward
Hang on what? We have Rankine who is our best mid. Rachele at a pinch but he plays more like a medium forward, doesn't hit packs at speed and crumb etc. Is our greatest area of need and there's a ton in this draft. Poor list management means we won't get access to any of them.

I presume that Schoenberg and Burgess could be drafted by any other club at pick 90ish. If this doesn’t happen, which it won’t, this just proves they shouldn’t be on our list either.

Any club that wants them can just offer the, a deal and they take it, they don't need to go into a draft to change clubs, they are delisted free agents. They only need to go into the rookie draft to be selected by us, they won't nominate for the national draft.

Want him. I can’t see any weakness in his game, only speed, evasiveness, ball winning, clean hands, good decision making, poise, good disposal, puts the ball to his team mates advantage.

I don’t get this lack of hurt factor. Surely if you’re effectively and consistently getting the ball to your teammates that’s hurt factor?

Yep and I don’t see someone going at over 80% DE an issue

He will learn to take more risks with ball in time but imagine being a Rankine or Dawson and knowing he’s going to win ball then feed it clean to you on a platter

He’s the player that will make others around him better from this draft

probably also teach our guys how NOT to high bomb to intercept markers and use method to get it through
