Clubs position themselves in the draft so the best available player at their pick is also the player type they need
Ideally, so long as don't need to pay a massive premium.

We are perfectly placed with pick #4 this year.... yet how much nonsense has there been about sliding or trading up to #2?

That's certainly how it's worded on the AFC.com.au article:

That's certainly not how I understood the state of play. Unless he's literally referring to a rookie upgrade as "using a pick".
Yeh it seemed very weird. I think he's just misspoken a bit

Are we able to draft a player in the upcoming mid season draft? Or are we still out of list spots? Surely there should be some gems missing out this draft?
Would need a long term injury i suspect.

Hopefully Nicks doesn't interfere with the list manager/recruiting team like Don Pyke did on that occasion.....WCE not all enarmored with Pyke again sticking his beak in and trading out their pick 3 this year either.
One of the benefits of Nicks lacking a hard edge is he won't interfere.

If it means anything, Port Adelaide think you are recruiting Draper.
Good.

Hopefully a future multiple showdown medallist :)

Becomes a Rozee who actually plays well when the heat is on. ;)

Don’t reckon Cripps and Bont would have had near as many running bounces in their 18th year taking the game on and forward with penetration

There’s burst speed then there’s transition running

Langford can be an elite transition runner

I see Langford as a Will Day clone. He will be a gun from day 1.
More than happy with any of the top 5 mids for mine. They all bring something different. Drapers link breaking ability is second to none, he shone as an underager in a strong year - and then coming back from injury excelled at SANFL level
Smith carved up the VFL in his few games and Lalor might be better than all of them.

It should be a good night for us regardless

Yep agree ! All our options are very good and being something different to each other

We will be a better list after tomorrow

Is it Wednesday yet...

If it’s up to us it will be Draper surely.
Equally rated SA kid with qualities we need.
People are over thinking it.
Agree. I think our team are sitting there silently praying he falls to us - in that top end, SA born and bred and a crows supporter. Ticks all the boxes imo

I've just emailed Reid and suggested we do that trade so we can pick up a full back, a centre half back and a back flanker.

I also included some stock tips - in case he wanted to invest.
Mate, don’t do it. Don’t embarrass yourself. Reidy would no doubt just laugh off any idiot supporter contacting him with such crap :)

The move here that Ogilvie is referring to is probably a trade with Richmond to get them above Melbourne.

If we're up at 4 and Draper, Langford and Tauru are still on the board which is looking highly likely we can probably move down to 6 and still take Draper.

4 RICH Langford
5 MELB Tauru
6 ADL Draper

I reckon they'd give up something fairly decent to get Richmond supporting Langford to their club.
Ok sounds good in theory. And when Langford and Draper go 4 and 5 respectively and Tauru is left over what’s the plan?

My preference is Draper. SA boy, and really everything in that profile screams he'll be a high quality inside midfielder. Equally it looks like from the outside, his profile would be a snug fit in Adelaide.

I don't mind the Langford pick, but I do have a query if Curtin and Langford will be able to co-exist as midfielders. It's two big guys without top tier acceleration. At least it'd probably solve our half back issue as it's likely either him or Dawson as a starting mid.
