FFS - we don't have any list positions available. We are committed to picking 1 player + Welsh. There is no position available on our list for Dodson or any other 3rd player.
Wait am I wrong here but aren't Burgess and Schoenberg technically not our players currently until we take in rookie draft .
Or is that incorrect because both contracted .
Not suggesting they won't be rookied.
Therefore if I am correct technically we could advise going to payout contract and delist or another club can draft .

You are correct - they are not currently on our AFL team lists, or those of any other club. They are, however, contracted for to the AFC for 2025.

Because they are contracted for 2025 we would need to pay out their 2025 salary (salaries), including any lump sum termination payments in our 2024 salary cap. It is unlikely that we still have room in our 2024 salary cap.

If they are picked up by another club (either as DFAs or draftees) before we re-draft them then that does indeed open up a position on our list.

It should be noted that we have committed to re-drafting both players, and the chances of them being picked up by another club are extremely remote at best. If you are basing your hopes/wishes for positions to open up in this way then you should expect to be disappointed.

I reckon people don’t realise how cut throat afl is these days

Missing a year of development can skittle a career if you don’t get back on track fast no matter how talented

Seen it many times over hence was concerned when the SA combine info came out

Lots of people wanted to shoot that down but here we are with the SA state program coach being quite honest re the lad which is rare in an interview these days

And people think the club has been foxing 😆 as if we’d be that smart

More along the lines of thinking the club is that stupid.

As you say, tanking one year can be the death knell of a career.

Did you put 'explain list management to a child' into Chat GPT?
Haha. I asked Copilot "Explain Adelaide Football Club list management to a child":

Sure! Imagine the Adelaide Football Club is like a big team of superheroes. Each superhero has special powers and skills. The people in charge of list management are like the team leaders who decide which superheroes should be on the team.

Here's how they do it:

  1. Finding New Heroes: They look for new superheroes (players) who have great powers (skills) and invite them to join the team.
  2. Training and Helping: They make sure all the superheroes get the best training and help they need to become even better.
  3. Trading Heroes: Sometimes, they trade superheroes with other teams to get new ones who might fit better with their team.
  4. Contracts: They make agreements (contracts) with the superheroes about how long they will stay on the team and what they will get in return.
  5. Planning for the Future: They always think about the future and plan how to keep the team strong for many years.
So, the list managers are like the brains behind the superhero team, making sure they have the best heroes and that everyone works well together

Who else is planning a pre-draft viewing of Draft Day :drunk:

<ASIDE> Just noticed in the logos bit when you add a smiley - it's our old logo 🤮? :adelaide: Chief can we get an updated on in there please? I see the Devils are covered already :tasmania:
Devils happened ages ago. I hadn't heard of the Crows logo change.

Curiously, Burgess has nominated for the ND, but Schoenberg has not...
Players who were on an AFL list in 2024 have the right to hold their draft nomination over until the PSD.

Someone who nominates for the ND is effectively nominated for the ND, PSD and RD. Someone who opts to hold their nomination over is only nominated for the PSD and RD.

Schoenberg has made an interesting choice, but not one with any real consequences for his position with the AFC.

Maybe Burgess thinks there’s some interest in him from another club?
Nah, wishful thinking on his part.
He's obviously aware this is his last season on the Crows list unless miraculously he becomes a best 22 option. Nathan's chance!

Not suggesting there’s any inside info at play, but interesting that Chellappah has gone against the grain, going Draper to Blues/Jagga to Crows

More like Burgess has made an interesting choice. Why would he nominate for the national draft if he has agreed with us to stay on next year through the rookie draft. If someone takes him he would have to move his family.

Could it be that we’ve told him we are not 100% taking him as we have room to pay out his contract this year, so he is keeping all his options open?

Why not? If he gets picked up then he likely gets a longer contract, where he knows that 2025 will be his last season with the Crows. He's got Buckley's chance of finding a new club, but nominating for both ND and PSD certainly won't hurt his chances in any way.

No, it could not be.

Interesting interview by Hamish today WaynesWorld19 and Jeffcrowe when asked about type of midfielder to balance midfield, he said they go for the best player.

1 Jeffcrowe 0 Wayne which by the way brings Wayne to minus 23
The debate is not whether Hamish believes this, as we all know he does, it’s whether it’s sound practice. Personally I think there is middle ground and list balance has to play a role, but if someone is clearly better then fine. That is not the case this year so midfield mix should definitely come into it.

Kid has talent needs to fire up in year 1 and improve habits and could be a big bonus
I can't remember who did the talking but it's public knowledge that GAJ was sat down during his first year and given a proper talking to about his fitness, form and future. From memory, it was the senior players.

Lachie Neale has a similar story from his Freo days. I think it was Ross Lyon who challenged him to get a better attitude...'or you'll end up nothing but a fat little back pocket player for Glenelg'.

Four Brownlow medals between them later says that people can change.

Tyler Welsh is not critical to the club, but one hell of a bonus if he fires. Pick him tonight and enjoy his journey. Not much risk...big reward possible.

No, Wayne’s point was clubs do the opposite to what Hamish just said

If I was the Crows and had stayed loyal to Burgess and promised to take him in the rookie draft despite a terrible year, then I would feel very disappointed that he has nominated for the national draft. He’s effectively saying I’ll play for you unless I get a better offer. Why wouldn’t we do the same then?

It’s a cliche all clubs roll out though, as telling the media “we are wanting raw speed” would give away that we want Draper say. North will take Tauru, and they definately don’t think he’s the second best player, they think he’s the second best option for their squad.

Just because you're a shonky operator, doesn't mean that the club is.

Burgess is a contracted player. The club went to the trouble of talking him into moving from GC to Adelaide, uprooting his life and moving interstate. They gave him a 2-year contract. They delisted him with a commitment to re-draft him in the RD. Having done all that, they're not going to behave in a completely petty and unprofessional manner, reneging on their commitment to re-draft him just because he chose to nominate for the ND (as is his right).

We get that you're petty and unprofessional. The same does not apply to Justin Reid, whose ethical standards far exceed your own.

A lot of this comes from cruising in the lower grades and not having to do the hard work

Then suddenly you're sliding back - and as a young kid - you panic and get lost . Having someone sit you down and refocus you can help immensely

Point out the talent point out he got picked for a reason and remind them the hard work doesnt stop with getting selected
