We would've gone from neglecting the position for a decade to massively overcompensating.

As great as our club is and for as much as they do get right, we're not a club who can afford to just drop first and early second round picks on ruckman for 3/4 years.

The academy sides could do it, maybe Norf these days too, but we're not one of them.

It's a luxury position. You just find a guy who's competent from another club, or develop one cheaply and you go from there.

They're available every year. Someone like Lloyd Meek would've been all we needed and more.

We haven’t used a first round pick on a ruck.

So much carry on in this thread.

I agree but I feel having Conway on our list impacts getting in a guy that is ready to do the job.

We got old blokes rucks and young blokes rucks with zero in the sweet spot.

I blame list management for that.

Maybe we have tried and tried hard to rectify it but I’m not sure.

A Jordan Sweet type on the list would have been fine.
That's problem for me, we'll likely be sitting here in 12 months with the same problem.

Stanley will be gone, and we will still only have ruckman who aren't yet ready, with no magnet to just lock onto the whiteboard every week. SDK is the wildcard there I suppose.

We might potentially have too many of them if tonight goes the way many seem to think.

We wouldn't have actually fixed anything, we would've just potentially fixed the issue 5 years from now.

Technically yes but we used our first pick on a ruck in 21 and our 2nd pick on one last year so I get the point people are making.

I’d rather fix the issue 5 years from now than not at all.

Really not happy how we've sat around and done nothing while some genuine talent has slipped so low.

What can we do apart from offering a F1 which is surely not justifiable for a pick in the late 20s-early 30s?

?

Who says we've sat around doing nothing?

It's been commented on that we were trying to negotiate with Richmond throughout for pick 28 - not our fault if they don't want to accept a trade

Maybe not tonight, but last night, while Armstrong and Whitlock were still on the board (plus some of the others who are still available), our F1 + whatever wouldve been fair. Doesnt even sound like we were trying which again, is disappointing.
