He can't defend.
None of the blokes that play defence can defend one on one & make it 50/50.
Get with Horse's program man,

Contested ball winning is like so last century. So is defending.
Cheech And Chong Weed GIF

Roberts, Florent & Lloyd should all be fighting for the one same spot with Roberts ahead of the other two if we are to create list pressure.
The older two failed again. Roberts being younger can improve.
We need to get brutal.
They weren't even in the same third of the ground later on.

Unless Roberts for some reason moves to mids, he's locked into our defence for now.

With Jmac fit, then I do think Florent and Lloyd might be competing for a spot from the bench as backup winger/half back in the 22. The other misses selection or might be sub.

Blakey/Roberts - half backs
Gulden/Jmac - wingers

Then one of Florent, Lloyd on the bench.

Based on the level of frustration on this board, I get the distinct feeling that there are still some of you that harbour the idea that we can do something positive on the last game in September.

Big mistake.

Take that game completely out of the picture and we are one hell of a club, with a top list, great coach, bloods culture, ready to blow the competition away … again.

If Grundy and Ladhams are injured at the same time in 2025, we'll only have Will Green has a fit, pure ruckman.

Surely Brayden Crossley or another mature state-league ruck on a one/two year deal in the Rookie Draft would've been the bare minimum to do?

Jordon in isolation, not a problem. Jordon when combined with all the others who also aren't offering much all-round physicality, a problem.

Individually they're all fine. It's the sheer number of them together on the list compared to hard, tough players that is a massive concern.
Part of why I want Warner to half forward, with Mills and Sheldrick into the middle.

I want Fox playing really, but good luck to him now we have even more flashier alternatives.

Both fairly durable, most likely event is Grundy misses a game or two with injury, and Ladhams doesn't miss an opponent's face, gets rubbed out at the same time.

We'd just ruck McLean and Amartey. Maybe Buller would come in as a 3-way ruck combo if fit.

Heath Grundy Dane Rampe both KPDs selected midway through the rookie draft ahaha
Grundy was selected as a CHF too. If a player fails to make a huge impact forward they can always be turned into backs. Except a player like Logan who simply doesn't have the DNA to play back.

Or you went to a car dealer wanting to get a replacement for your 2017 Honda Civic as you needed more room for your growing family and you came out of the car dealer with a 2019 Honda Civic.
While you also had another Honda Civic in the garage at home.

IF we really want a Key Defender, Clancy Dennis is still available for the rookie draft.

U/18 All Australian defender (the only WA kid to be selected, alongside Bo Allan). 195cm. Strong.

And from Claremont.

Struggling to understand why he wasn't picked up. Has the fundamentals. Must have blown the face to face talks?

What do you mean by that?
We have ignored that he was drafted as a half forward / outside mid, then played him as a 2nd or 3rd string half back / winger with limited success. We saw glimpses of forward promise again this season, but instead of playing him there more often, he lost his place in the 22 twice based on his limited half back / wing output.

It'll be even harder to get a foot in now with additions to the forward line, one of which may have been unnecessary if we'd bothered to play him in position.

Fair enough. If you think his contributions at AFL-level so far have been enough to warrant a spot (until he won the spot late in the season and was backed in to play finals) we'll have to agree to disagree there.

He was out of the 22 on grand final day...

I think he was/is worth trying forward consistently, but would have been nice to do this much earlier.

He had a niggle and was more productive as sub in the QF than the Preliminary Final. Was still backed in over Adams who had that spot for most of the year.
