The fact that we are targeting pick 10 tells me that Berry is not our target.
Tall Forwards and Rucks by Sheehan.
Armstrong another one who could push a quality mid back.
Could come around to Kayle Gerreyn if Dodson is off the table and we have a pick?
Apparently there are noise that Bo Allen will go earlier than the Eagles pick 10.
Perhaps it ties into the word that we want in the top 10 and he's the draftee we want.
I repect your analysis and your line of thought but I still think back to Hill in 2023, who was the diffence between Collingwood winning or losing. As you pointed out Brisbane in 2024 did dominate all over the ground and especially in the midfield but also and just as strongly in the small forward positions where multiple guys could have earned the Norm Smith. I see our lack of productivity from our forward entries as the most pressing need and filling those positions with players not considered to be good enough for first and second round selections has not worked for us apart from Robbie Gray. I think we have in Drew and Ollie Wines good quality inside mids to complement the class of JHF, Butters and Rozee so as to be, as a unit, one of the stronger midfield groups. What we lack most in my opinion is a Kossie Pickett who can tear a game apart. We are not likely to get someone like him from other teams cast offs and speculative late draft picks like we have been relying on for the last 10 or so years.I just don’t buy this at all.
Brisbane won the grand final because their midfield stomped swans midfield into the ground.
Brisbanes fleet took advantage of that dominance, and that fleet of smalls really consists of the majority of blokes playing something closer to a wing / hff role or just in general goal kicking mids than small forward.
Again I don’t really think this is entirely accurate, it’s at least a misunderstanding.
You’re looking at stat sheets and going, gee most of those goal kickers are small forwards (when you’re counting small forwards, hffs, goal kicking mids, mid/forwards rotating)
There’s like 6-9 players really in most sides that fit that bill, of course the majority of goals is going to come from them and not the 1-3 kfs teams have.
It also isn’t helped by the fact that there’s so few quality kfs going around that we’ve seen teams with weak kfs make it to the pointy end. The sport is worse off for it imo.
I think we’ve been giving some shit forwards far too many games , tho a better coach wouldn’t have picked them so many times for starters.
arguably f evans and mcintee only got games because of 3 factors
Hinkley is an idiot
We lacked in depth pushing for those spots in the 18-25th range once a cpl of injuries / suspensions popped up ( arguably because we keep trading out those mid range draft picks)
What depth we did have was young players who Hinkley doesn’t trust and refused to back in (or played and then dropped) while he backs in soon to be delisted players with limited to no upside time and time again.
My feeling is that we'll take only one tall. But I'm coming up with the following scenariosTall Forwards and Rucks by Sheehan.
Armstrong another one who could push a quality mid back.

The 2 sticking points I have with Berry areAnd as for berry, well a generalisation is just that, it doesn’t apply to individuals but what we know as fact is that small forward form in juniors is notoriously unreliable.
Without knowing exact numbers I’ll wager 90% of the best performing small forwards of juniors of the past decade are working at Bunnings or some such right now. Where as the same wouldn’t be said of the best performing mids in juniors. Hell, every year sa trots out seemingly half a dozen sub 180cm ready made goal scoring juniors in the champs who are fairly dominant and we would be lucky to name 2 or 3 of them that have gone on to be any good recently.
The gulf between how teams defend in juniors to afl is just too large and too different.
None of that means write berry off, you’ve still got too look at him and judge what he has and does not have, but by god you better be damn sure about him if you’re gonna take him.
Hynes fits a need. Berry doesn'tJoe Berry > Cooper Hynes
FWIW, I can see Berry being the next Bayley Fritsch (I know many have compared him to Dylan Moore but I doubt he plays that at AFL level) while I think Hynes could be the next Stringer (hopefully without the injuries and lack of professionalism). It's a question of which type we need more. If we hadn't gotten Richards and weren't getting Barrett, I'd probably have leant towards Berry too.Fight me Addy23!

Trying to compare two completely different players is a ludicrous idea but sure. We need a MID/FWD hybrid rather than another small forward. Hynes has the X-factor that Berry doesn't
Yeah but Berry has just as many questions on him if not more compared to Richards.I see where your coming from regarding us obtaining Richards (9 gamer) and hopefully Barrett. But a 9 gamer who's kicked 6 goals doesn't exactly give me confidence to say we have improved our forward line.
Regarding Berry vs Hynes its more so regarding obtaining one or the other with pick 13.
I just think its overs for Hynes at that pick as he's projected to go between late first round and start of 2nd round.
Berry is ONE of the two best small forwards in this draft the other being Kako.

Also, Hynes could actually push a quality mid back. The buzz around him going top 10 is getting louder.
With teams having multiple picks before ours, there could be some surprise sliders as teams select on need or try to pick two or more different types of player to balance their picks.
This is exactly the reason why I am hesitant to move up. There's now lots of noise around Bo Allan being of interest to Saints and Melbourne. Hynes being of interest to Melbourne too. Lindsay to Eagles. There'll be someone of quality at our first pick if indeed Allan and Lindsay end up at Saints and Eagles. There's also talk that Richmond are willing to take the risk on Hotton. So its a high risk low reward move imo to trade up.there is going to be a shock slider on draft night
A langford,draper, smith, armstrong type
Defs reminds me of Kai, but also has that cheekiness about him like Butters in the way he plays which I love. He really likes being in the face of the oppositionDattoli is my favourite player, could well do a Kai Lohman next year
