The perceived strength of this draft and the actual strength may be completely different- have another look in 5 years.
Tell me you haven't watched him this year without telling me you haven't watched him this year.......Who’d seriously bid on a 174cm player unless they’re a small forward goal kicking machine.
As a delisted player he (Grainger-Barras) didn't need to nominate, he can be taken in the pre-season supplemental period by a club of his choice. Narkle took this option with the promise from Freo that they would take him in the pre-season period. So surely we invite R.Burgoyne, L.Montgomery, Dennis, McLennan and Watkins to train on. Who are the best mature tall backs we could ask also?
Before anyone says Grainger-Barras, I don’t think he nominated for the draft so I am not even sure he is eligible.
That’s like playing a lot of midfield for Athelstone.Tell me you haven't watched him this year without telling me you haven't watched him this year.......
Played a lot of midfield for South
No current season stats available
The smaller the player the more talent required to make a successful AFL career. He kicks goals mate watch the highlights reel.
And you could just as well select the next vanilla mid or a project tall that we delist every 5 minutes. The smaller the player the more talent required to make a successful AFL career.
You can’t be 174cm and meh.
I’d say good for the Port Magpies but I’d doubt he’d see AFL action.
I think we got lucky with our second pick that Whitlock was still there.Credit to the list management and recruiting team. Turned a pretty ordinary situation into a good haul of young talent.
That Whitlock pick will define our main draft no question. The other 2 look like they both should play 100+ games. Whitlock could become a star or bust.I think we got lucky with our second pick that Whitlock was still there.
If he’d gone earlier as expected it might not have looked as good.
Pity we missed out on Clarke,I reckon he’s going to be more than handy.
Well I agree with you about the vanilla types we tend to target. And you could just as well select the next vanilla mid or a project tall that we delist every 5 minutes.
Nobody wanted Houston in his draft year either it's not an exact science.Well I agree with you about the vanilla types we tend to target.
That’s why I’d prefer bigger bodied types that we lack when the game gets tough come finals.
Best of luck to Benny but seriously there’s a reason nobody wanted him.
He at worst will improve the magpies so it’s not a total loss.
A KPD would've been nice but overall I think they've done well.F$$k there’s some pessimistic people but I’m sure they call themselves realists.
If you were drawing up our list from scratch I think a KPD and big inside mid would replace two of our smaller forwards.A KPD would've been nice but overall I think they've done well.
Big mids are always welcome but seriously if you can't get it done with Wines, Drew & JHF at the coalface supporting Butters and Rozee it ain't the personnel. If you were drawing up our list from scratch I think a KPD and big inside mid would replace two of our smaller forwards.
That’s in the margin of error really.
I'm the reverse
Moraes has the highest ceiling of the 3. Was a top 10 contender this time last year. Backed it up with a good year although not as strong as Smith, Langford, Smilie etc. I think he's got a lot of traits similar to Rozee. His real development will come through once there's a head coach change that would allow us to lower the eyes. Yeah he's got an interesting technique but I'd say it's normally good too.
Berry is a good small forward, I think he'll consistently kick 30 goals a year. I still stick to my point that he isn't a need but don't question the quality of the player.
Whitlock is a bit meh for me, I ultimately think we'll stuff up his development (or any tall's) anyways by swinging him forward and back. Consistent with what we've done for Lord and now Walsh.
Barrett got speed in spades, the x-factor and strengths to break away. Port have intentionally hidden him away in midfield which imo is an option for him like what Pickett does. Not sure why there's some dislike towards this kid but some of his ground ball work and his tackling pressure (averages over 6 tackles a game) is something that our forward line could do with. Would say if his development goes as planned he could well replace RioliNobody wanted Houston in his draft year either it's not an exact science.
I am not sure his disposal skills (to my eyes) are questionable. I think it changes depending on the position he plays. I like him as a half forward or winger and when he has space he really used his speed to effect and gives himself time to make the right decision.Unfortunately, when players come into the AFL with questionable disposal skills it normally sticks with them throughout their careers. Boak’s been in the system for nearly two decades & he still hit numerous Swans players on the chest in the PF, & this has been a recurring pattern throughout the majority of his career.
What about the hundreds that never made it.Nobody wanted Houston in his draft year either it's not an exact science.
Sure, but thats why he's on the Cat B rookie list and not on the senior list. Are you telling me you'd rather just not have him at all and leave that spot empty? What about the hundreds that never made it.
They are probably the ones you would've selected if you were on list management. What about the hundreds that never made it.
There’s going to be a long line to replace Rioli.Barrett got speed in spades, the x-factor and strengths to break away. Port have intentionally hidden him away in midfield which imo is an option for him like what Pickett does. Not sure why there's some dislike towards this kid but some of his ground ball work and his tackling pressure (averages over 6 tackles a game) is something that our forward line could do with. It seems to be a ploy at getting Doug. FWIW, I think he has potential as well, so it isn't like we're picking up a complete spud, he could do well.
